It was definitely done with purpose and intent. No director, actor, nor writer would've done that by accident regarding Arthurian legends. 🙂 It's literal and figurative allegory for breaking all ties; the final straw to set the story's major conflict in motion.

This film was SUCH a wonderfully written powerhouse of storytelling. And say what you wish about whoever you did or didn't like in the film, but as someone with 30+ years experience, I can safely say that the performances matched the material, and the director obviously blended action with the more elegant side of the old Arthurian legends. 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨

Nah, the movie is flawed all around. I can't put my finger on what exactly but something is missing and the whole project feels hokey. Despite having an A-list cast it ultimately comes across as a B movie. Maybe you could call it a B+ movie. Still enjoyed it though.

It was his "first knight;s sword" from the times when he was sitting around the table with the others. Him placing it there (his previous spot at the table) is the message that he comes without a fight, but leaving it there is the message of breaking the last tie he had with the table and Camelot. He is no longer the knight he once was, and now that he left his sword there, there is no return for him. So yeah, him leaving it there is a direct and intentional message of "i am out of here" :) though he might have the feeling of "damn, it was a good sword.. its a shame"

I remember not liking either ML, I mean, while now I think Sean Connery (RIP) is very handsome (hot), back then, I'm like....guy is as old as the FL's father. But then again, I was not keen with the Lancelot's character (I thought he's immature and childish, while yes, dashing but no to being a partner lol) and I remember hoping Guinevere wouldn't cheat on Arthur (although we all know many variation of that story usually ends with Guinevere falling for Lancelot/betraying Arthur)...still though.
