Look at that. Realistic war scenes, every character has its own story. And women in the battlefield fighting along with the men. No woke bs. Just good cinema.

I thought it was pretty badass because he clearly parried the warrior who attacked him quite easily, so it would make sense he would more be suitable in the chaos below to stab and fuck shit up as opposed to fighting on a narrow staircase. Who knows, maybe he could have owned them all.

This appears to be an attempt to tie the story of the Welsh Artorius who was an officer in the Roman occupying force in Britannia circa 400 AD to the Arthurian legends. There's no mysticism; just pure grit. The stories I read figured Artorius at the heart of the resistance to Saxon migration into the British Island. Artorius was able to lead the Celts in successful battles against the Saxons, keeping them from gaining too much of a foothold on the island. It wasn't until after his death, the Saxons, Angles and Jutes were able to move in and push the Celts back into Wales. This explains why Clive Owen's Arthur wears a Roman officer's armor.

Sort of an Roman officers armor. Haven't seen one like it. It looks to be very very decorated and different Roman look. I think the closet one I've seen similar to it was "Gladiator" movie where leader is leading an army to defeat some barbarians I'm the beginning of the movie and his helmet and armor almost looks similar just it isn't painted all black ish

As a big history buff i give prop to this movie for trying to portray late antiquity realistically. For the roman troops they did an "okay job" you can actually see some limitanei and roman soldier wearing pants! (Although they couldn't resist the leather segmentata..). In this period roman were using either squamata or mail armour. The heavy cav was cladded in multiple layers of mail and plate. And the "Sarmatian knights" battle armour is actually fairly authentical. And they would have been used as brute force to smash enemy formations.
@fionnghallselma7193
@fionnghallselma7193 Жыл бұрын
Lmfao they did a shit job. Imagine portraying Celts in 400 AD as woad painted warriors; it's not unfeasible but seeing Celts portrayed in movies as dull coloured warriors wearing nothing is just a dull reimagining. Disregarding the bright colours that they went off into when going to war. Same with the Saxons, it's as if they looked at a marble statue and saw the time and wear as perennially constant.

Yeah as far as a Hollywood-ized take on the cataphract/clibanarius kit it ain't bad. Also took me years to realize the one Saxon commander is wearing a semi-authentic Niederstotzingen helmet. Rest of the Saxon equipment is typical biker barbarian fair, but you see the eponymous seaxes occassionally and lenticular shields. There is a lot else that leaves much to be desired, but you can see at least some research was done. What an opportunity was missed though not allowing Arthur to take the field in a Berkasovo style Ridge Helm!

This and kingdom of heaven has the best massive battles to date. You can see what's happening, and you follow the main characters throughout the battle... Unlike movies like lord of the rings. Those battle might be bigger, but the shots feel so random, and characters can just stop up, and look around for what feels like minutes at a time... No, this movie is better at that :-)

You are talking nonsense. This movie which is supposed to be "more historical" than the others just shows a gigantic mess, zero formations, and the usual cliché of "hundreds of little one vs one everywhere", guys with ARMORS pierced like it's made of paper, when it's a bad guy they died almost instantly, when it's a good guy he can survive after losing 15 galons of blood... This movie sucked harder than a supermassive blackhole.

The King Arthur story or legend takes place in the 6th century of Britain, at that time the Romans ruled Britain and that would make sense that some of the warriors in this movie have Roman style armor, knights or knight style armor didn’t exist in the 6th century, the first knight armor was constructed during the rule of Charlemagne, that’s when the idea of knight armor or knights came into play.

@@ManMan-ko7ll they were in fact "proto German", they were like the uncle of the viking, and they succeded where the viking failed (invade and rule Britain) the Saxon were so smart in theyr management of conquered land and people they were the ancestor of the Anglo-Saxon and Alfred the great was indeed a descendant of the Saxon :)

Because by the time the Vikings invaded and pillaged, the Saxons formed separate and often warring kingdoms known as the ‘Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy’. So infighting was the main cause, but once the Anglo-Saxons stopped killing each other and fought under one banner, the Vikings were pushed out and beaten. Even when the Anglo-Saxons were divided, the Vikings still heavily relied on the element of surprise, so they were ill prepared at first as well.

Saxons vs the Welsh- a Saxon word for foreigner. Not a physical country. As Rome quit Britain Saxons started to raid and settle too. Some post Roman Britons hired them too to for protection as mercenaries. All very complex and not if any primary sources available. All heavily altered by Geoffrey of Monmouth- a Norman, in C12 who obviously would have had a very anti Saxon or English viewpoint. In reality probably several events years apart spun into a myth. I think over time as Saxons gained the foothold the Welsh, in Saxons parlance shift west into the place now called Wales. And Cornwall of course. Briton culture was actually similar to Gaul, the Saxons were more Germanic and or Friesian and lower Baltic. All lost in the mists of the Dark Ages If only people had taken written notes!!!
