The Arthurian story as we understand it today is clearly an embellished legend and overwhelmingly mythical. However, I have little doubt that there was an Arthurian figure in the late 5th and early 6th Century, which formed the genesis of the story. Whether that figure was called Arthur, or even a King, is doubtful, but the truth has been lost to time.
