When my 6 year old niece passed away from a brain tumour 3 years ago this was played at the committal. We all went to pieces.

100 years from now people will point to THIS rendition of Faure's Requiem and will say it was the BEST. What a blessing to listen and meditate on its PURE musicality.

Gabriel Faure is watching this performance from his perch In Paradisum and is saying (in French) "They have it exactly as I intended it. Bravo." Look at the size of the orchestra - and the size of the choir. What perfection - never to be equalled by a larger contingent of musicians. This performance is a blessing to witness...and I never can listen to it without weeping.

I get a taste of heaven every time I hear this music. It is absolutely beautiful. And the vocalism on display here is stunning.

My absolute favorite performance of this piece by any choir. I sang this as a choir boy many many years ago. One french horn is all that is needed: conductors take note.

it s the most beautiful when the violin solo is played by the concertmaster...and it sounds the most beautiful in high position.

Faure masters the "angelic effect" with upper register voices and harp. His Cantique de Jean Racine is wonderful as well.

Normally I think the quality of trebles is too pure and ethereal but here it is perfect - brilliant:)

I can agree to a certain extent however being in a choir and listening to advice i know when we ever sing in a cathedral we must emphasise the constonants even more, exaggerate almost. The harmony is not infact the choirs doing but Fauré himself. I admire the sound it's wonderful but feel it would sound more like a choir if you could understand what they are saying!
@michelvaneenoge19245 жыл бұрын
...dommage que la prise de son soit si mauvaise - par ailleurs...le King's college, que j'adore dans son répertoire, est dans ce Fauré, moins éblouissant
@Moconnor83415 жыл бұрын
Personally i think that is a weak argument. After all i think we would prefer to hear what they are saying not just listen to notes being "hummed" if you would, in perfect harmony. In my opinion it is better to hear what the choir is singing and maybe waver on a few notes pitch wise but again thats my own opinion.

im osrry but i dont know why people are praising this so much? i performed this when i was a soprano and i ahve noticed it with this choir especially; you can't hear what they are saying. no consonants. our teacher really goes ona bout them but now i know why. you really need to emphasise every word or it won't be heard. its not a bad recording because you would definatley still be able to hear the consonants. its actually quite bad.
