Colossal King Conan, that's some of the best 'modern' art I've seen in a comic. I'm a bit of an art purist (aka anti-Graphic Programs) guy. But dang that looks good. Thanks for sharing!

Michael, you are more than welcome, especially when you discuss Robert E. Howard.

As long as John Buscema drew it, I bought it.

Those books look great. But I wish they did less of those volumes and more trade pb volumes. Those big books are so huge and expensive it is cost prohibitive to most of us who have loved this stuff for decades.

The Marvel King Conan was one I bought regularly, just like Conan the Barbarian and Savage Sword, but I've never read those Dark Horse stories. They look fantastic. Something for me to shoot for in the future. Great video.

Titan comics hired the same guy that put together the Marvel Conan Omnis, they said they will continue with the same format and they'll make reprints of early volumes.

Love this video. Those Dark Horse tales from Truman and Giorello are the gold standard.

Oh, I’m sorry I missed out on the Dark Horse omnibus. I wonder if it’s available electronically.

Michael, I remember how excited I was when I read that Marvel was going to release King Conan and I couldn't wait for the first issue. I bought every one - the quality varied a bit but I never found it less than enjoyable. So for a period, in some months I had Conan The Barbarian, Savage Sword and King Conan to look forward to plus I was still reading or re-reading Howard's originals. By Crom, what a golden age, verily an age undreamed of! Agreed, Tim Truman and Tomas Giorello did an outstanding job on King Conan; I too find the structure of old Conan dictating his life story to the poor scribe to be spot-on. Marvel's second shot at King Conan published earlier this year only lasted six issues (it felt like it was cut back to a miniseries once Marvel's licence was not renewed); it was a fairly clumsy story until the last two issues, which is when I think writer Jason Aaron suddenly found the right voice for the title. But then the series ended. I am very much looking forward to what Titan does with the characters and the Hyborian Age.

I really like the Marvel King Conan - the poignant story with Red Sonja is one of my favourite comics ever. It gets weird later with yet more kids and a story reboot but still some good material. The Dynamite books look great!

Another fascinating video as always, Michael. Also, something unfortunate: I'm getting a 404 error whenever I try to visit your channel's hub.

I met L. Sprague de Camp at a Dallas Comic con years ago (late 80s) along with his wife. They seemed like a really nice couple and I enjoyed listening to their talk. At the time I knew a woman that was really into Conan's books and comics. I wish someone like Disney or someone else would bring back Conan to video though that might make some wince, however, since they are doing all these fantasy series, etc. anyway, it seems like someone would and depending on how they are handled could be interesting.

King Conan I was never a regular reader of. It cost more than the typical comic and I think it eventually became a comic book store only release. So it disappeared from convenience store spinner racks. I could be wrong about it becoming a direct market exclusive. Conn was another reason. When I would pick up the book it felt like a Conn book but they used the Conan name instead of explicitly giving him his own title like DC had done with Korak, son of Tarzan.

When Conn dies I had that issue. Wow.

I am SO hoping Titan reprints all the omnibus editions! I only have the Dark Horse SSoC black and while collection. Would love to get the rest without having to take out a second mortgage!
