Giles is way underrated. He came up with the perfect feel on this perfect track. I don't think much of Bruford, I like him but he seems to be more into mathematics when it comes to drumming. @guidomotshagen75414 жыл бұрын
King Crimson perfectly fitted in with the psychedelic era, but they themselves were never part of that scene; actually they were rather bourgeois and "classical minded". Fripp himself cannot be called a rock- (or even pop-) guitarist, he plays it in a classical manner and I've never heard him play anything bluesy or something close to rock. He's very disciplined, but he's also a perfect example of "if it ain't got that swing it don't mean a thing" (Duke Ellington). I was very proud when a professional guitarist publicly said that "Guido has a good blues coming on". I was 12 at the time, and I was rehearsing "Day Tripper" 😂😂😂. I learned from the best, but I still can only imitate Jimi. 😢😢😢

One thing I think does not get enough attention is the SOUND of Michael Giles' drumming. I don't mean WHAT he plays, but the roundness and fullness of every tone he produces. I'm a guitarist, but I listen to the drummers, because everything besides the voice is just a drum with a different father. I like the drummers that get a sound like you are standing in a dense forest and this sound just swells up through the trees. Thats Michael Giles to me. Other drummers that I think get a fantastic sound are Michael Shrieve (Santana), Chico Hamilton, and Shelly Manne, two jazz drummers I have been lucky enough to be mesmerized by live.

This album was so unique and original in 1969. The level of talent, individually and collectively, was breathtaking. Giles's drum sound was beautiful, Ian's talent on so many instruments was otherworldly and Greg's voice was the best.

Since no one ever commented here with a similar interpretation of the song how I do, I now leave my comment. I'm a 22 y/o woman with ADHD and this is a great way of showing how people like us live and breathe. I'm an inattentive type and I always space out into a whole new dimension of reality. I've noticed that I use a unique coping mechanism for myself. Since I also have trouble expressing my thoughts and emotions, venting to another person never helped me. They either misunderstood me, or don't understand me at all. I personally cope with things by venting to my thoughts. I let loose when I daydream and I feel comforted by it. (Mostly when I ride the bus or train, I love to escape into my very own dimension of reality) "I talk to the wind, my words are all carried away" is what expresses this the best I think. And when people would ask me how I always manage to keep a good mood, I think to myself "If they only knew" :') It's almost like the like Said the straight man to the late man "where have you been" "I've been here and I've been there and I've been in between" This "between" is my dimension of reality, my escape. Is there a person who by mere coincidence has a psychologist kinda title? I'm suspecting myself to be autistic since I catch myself having autistic tendencies. Does, what I said above, give you a clue? It would really help me if someone could answer this question.
@woahthatscool22582 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to not answer your question in your last paragraph, but I'd like to say I use a similar coping mechanism (not diagnosed with adhd or autism but I'm also suspecting symptoms.) Idk I'm just happy to see someone else who uses that type of coping mechanism. Also very nice pfp and username (I have JoJo brainrot rn sorry)

Do you need someone to vent to? Not knowing you,and forgive me if I am out of line, but I can relate exactly. That's why I come home to this song for decades now(61yrs old ). I actually found someONE who gets me. She is my world. Just want you to know that there is someone out there who needs you and wants to love you. She knows when to back off if need be, and when to pull me in off the ledge. You have expressed yourself so perfectly, that in itself is loveable. Don't sweat the tendencies, that's all just subjective b.s. Just keep on living and breathing like the rest of us higher beings. Love from here!
@youexpectedanamebutitwasmedio Жыл бұрын
@@loucat2779 That's actually so sweet?? You've made my day better than it already was :') I did not expect such a heartwarming response to this comment. I really hope that I can find that someone, just like you did. I'm very happy that a person who has a similar way of thinking, has found their other half. I'm sincerely happy for you :) I'm still figuring out how my real identity is like without "adjusting myself according to the person or situation" so I kind of don't have a single clue what kind of person my someone would be like, or if I even _need_ a someone. Anyway, thanks again for that wholesome answer and I wish you a nice (whatever daytime it is at your place). Love from Germany 🫶🏼

Sad news about Pete Sinfield on Friday. His lyrics and imagery are such a vital part of those early King Crimson albums. St Peter at the Pearly Gates: "Well Mr Sinfield, what have you been up to?" I Had heard this Album being played by my beloved brother Thom's elaborate stereo system in his room at the house my dad designed and recently had built for the six child family circa 1972 (Thom passed away over the Thanksgiving weekethis year jusas my father had passed on the same holiday26 years prior in 98. both 68) l was 4 or 5 when I heard the eerie melotron melodies and Greg Lake's amazingly velvet voice floating in the air so beautiful and colorful I felt as if I could see it dancing toward me. It stuckand remained a listening staple to this day 2023. Fast Forward to Kent State University 1989 driving home to my college pit of an Apartment from my Waiter job at Denny's. With a few dollars in my pocket I had bought some road pop at the store next to Denny's. 98.5 WNCX would play album sides at midnight in those days. I turned on the radio and that familiar melotron groaned in the background followed by the magical voice of Greg Lake. I took the long way home and reminisced of being home as a young boy listening while my brothers quietly played chess. My brother Tom gave me a saxophone in 5th grade and taught me piano chords around the same time. He was my biggest influence and was quintessencial in allowing me to develope as an artist musician and and Weekend scientist. In my teens I recall him telling me that Pink Floyd would not have their sound had the inventive King crimson not paved the way by producing their own records with elaborate recording, multi tracking methods, Three drummers, the Melotron along with Fripps guitar and Lakes voice producing depth like no record before . Court of the Crimson King was a pioneer album and work of pure musical originality and skill. Rock on Robert, RIP Gregory. This first Album is Rock roll gold clearly showing how the Brits, in the sixties and early 70s were masters of taking the American invented rock n roll, Refining it and making it more universally accepted and accessible with their unique ability to add nuance to recordings to make songs irresistible and addictive.
