Did you know that in 2007 the Nigeria Government removed history from it's curriculum? This is disturbing because it means the the next generation might grow up without an identity. A kid born overseas may know more about the motherland more than children on the ground. Madness. History is essential in nation building, how does a nation know where she is headed without understanding of where it is coming from?

@King JATO why though? As a lover of African History I'm honestly so disappointed. Nigeria is so rich in history why are they doing this? History gives people pride and leads us to learn the good and bad of our ancestors throwing that study away will cause issues for the future generations.

@@admirekashiri9879 it is because Nigeria is a neocolonialist nation that brutalizes southern ethnicities, extracts their resources and sells them to the west, Middle East, and China for profit. It bans history because they know that an educated populace will not be happy with the state Nigeria is in.

It's a shame he got fooled in the end he shouldn't have trusted the British especially after seeing their demands, neither should he have helped them. Definitely wouldn't have fought them but, I would have been extra cautious. it's this lack of caution that led to the fall of many African kingdoms and empires during this era.

Jaja of Opobo (1821-1891, birth name Jubo Jubogha) was a Nigerian prince who founded the city state of Opobo. Born in Amaigbo, Igbo lands and sold at the age of 12 as a slave to Bonny. Every Black man on earth is a Prince 🤴🏾 take it or leave it. Royalty runs in the veins

Excellent video and summary. I am from Opobo and quote familiar with this story. One point to note, Jaja was so powerful that he went to London to visit Queen Victoria with his council of chiefs as an equal sovereign. Also he sent some of his kids to the UK for their education...According to today's standards, Jaja was a multi millionaire in USD.

As a member of Asante, Akan tribe of Ghana, British would have never won the 3rd war against us without the help from the Hausas and igbo tribes from present day Nigeria. Even with the help from other Africans tribes it still took British almost a whole year to be able to defeat the Asantes and only to destroy three quarters of Kumasi in 1891. British lost miserably the first two wars from late 1600's

Today they have nuclear just like all the western countries but still Afraid of just one country- Russia when he warned them not to interfere with Ukraine War so having big weapons doesn't always means you'll definitely win a war. The west knew if they mess with Russia that'll be the end of their dominance. The whole western Europe is about the size of DR Congo and Russia can Flatten them in just a week. Jaja was put on trial in the Caribbean and released when they couldn't found him guilty after years on detention. He was killed with poisonous tea in a ship they claimed they were transporting him back to Africa in Spain. He body was buried in Terinefe and later exhumed after years and taken to Opobo for reburial. Cruel British government of that era.

King jaja sent troops, not the igbo tribe and opobo is an ijaw clan from the ijaw tribe not the whole ijaw tribe , It's like a clan in igbo tribe, the igbo tribe is made of many clans who speak different dialects of Igbo, opobo was a clan from the ijaw tribe made up of different houses "like game of thrones" house Lannister house stark those sorts of things,The British used different tactics to conquer, send us troops so we dont attack , and enslave you.Unfortunately Most king's at that time did that because of what they did to oba of lagos, benin, calabar and Dahomey at time.Oba of Benin fought them and repelled British troops they came back with boers from SA and ransacked and looted benin some months later ,Lagos defeated them with the help of warriors from Dahomey sunk a few ships and they came back with the help of the french navy and bombarded lagos for months almost wiped out everyone, and they proceeded to do the same to Dahomey and handed them over the French, same thing with calabar they were resisted and defeated ,then they came back with the German, french navy and bombarded the place, the french hadn't fully colonized Cameroon especially the area around bakassi ,so when they finally won calabar and the surrounding area they ruled over it for some years then shared the area amongst the French and germans as a reward for helping conquer. they and the french also used the Fulani in conquering most of the other African states. So to your question no the Igbos did not help conquer the Ashanti.

King Jaja was taken to St Vincent and the Grenadines where he spent 3 years. You call still see the house where he lived. It is said that he was poisoned on his return by drinking a cup of tea

Fort Charlotte was built and used by the British to defend themselves against the French and Americano attack the native Arawak Inhabitants. The canons at the Fort are pointed inwards as they faced more resistance from the Native people. Google Joseph Chatoyer.
