I love Amtrak! 🚅 In 2013 my son and I moved to Texas. We rode Amtrak from 30th St. Station in Philadelphia to New Orleans,Louisiana. Spent the night in New Orleans and boarded the next Amtrak into Beaumont,Tx. It was a fun trip! The food was good and the crew was friendly!

All of the great railroads (Union Pacific, Santa Fe, etc.) had passenger rail service across the country. In the 1950's, air travel took passengers away from the railroads. Also, the railroads were going into a transition (long story). In any case, by 1969, the only passenger rail service making money was the "El Paso Friar" (El Paso to Denver), so, Amtrak was created, which took passenger rail away from the railroads. In some places (Connecticut to New York city, etc.), commuter rail never went away, but in the early 2000's, a number of regional passenger rail services began popping up. One example is the New Mexico Roadrunner with service from Belen New Mexico to Santa Fe New Mexico.

When my nephew was a little guy his grandfather took him to a car wash and told him when he was 1/2 through it was a giant octopus going to eat him. Now he is 40 years old and washes his car in his driveway. I love museums, this one was especially great because I loved the views from the conductors seat among other things. Great video, as usual.

Not a long road trip by train but you would like to see a few of the smaller restored railways with trips under 50 miles. Old coal and wood fired trains draw subscribers I bet and there are quite a few of them now. Interesting video today as I always find. Continue to have a safe trip to Rochester.

Hi Jacob, I sure enjoy watching your travels. May I suggest next time your in Omaha which I lived in several years ( now live in. Bakersfield Ca. ) there is a children’s museum which is really interesting and a train museum. Plus downtown there is some fascinating statues showing the wagon train struggles. Should check them out. Love your postcards keep them on my wall, daughter says it’s like my long distance boyfriend sending my postcards with me hanging me them like that lol.

I liked driving thru car washes when my daughter was 5 and used to be afraid of the noise, etc that accompanied the procedure. I wanted to get her accustomed to the process. Now that she is 25 she has no problem about them. Thanks for showcasing this one Jacob!

I've never had any conceivable reason to visit Omaha, Nebraska, but I AM a huge King Kong fan... Also, that is a fantastic railway museum! I love classic railways. The pace, the elegance, the comfort, the classic hotels and excursions. Problem is, they don't make 'em like that anymore. We drove Route 66 on our trip to Northern Arizona in 2019, but it was based more around staying in railway hotels like La Posada, visiting the railway museum in Kingman, and taking the Grand Canyon Railway to the park.

Train adventures are fun for sure. Living in the Midwest, I've taken an Amtrak both to the east coast and west coast. If you choose to go and you choose to take a room with a bunk bed, don't choose the room with a toilet built in the room... An advantage for a bunk room, is that your meals are included. A disadvantage of a train trip is that you don't have the freedom to explore at the stops

Some overnight trains do have nicer food options and alcohol served, but most intercity routes have only snack/comfort food options with some basic dining set up or just single seats with a table looking. Some of the Western Amtrak routes have dedicated observation cars, but most overseas trains tend to be more like the cafe car but slightly bigger as it can be a social space. I think there was a wedding party on my TGV between Lyon and Marseille last year and they crowded the dining car-but still really enjoyed the SE French countryside

There is a car wash here in Cedar Rapids IA, Tommy's Express, (which I think is a chain), that does a whole haunted house kind of thing during Halloween. The employees are in costume and they put on some kind of show while you drive through. This might happen at other locations too, but you'd probably dig it. Only down side is you have to pay an additional like $20 on top of the car wash cost.
