the music here is critical- but its not bombastic. I can't explain what about the music here works. I think its the sympathetic tone, almost like saying "I'm sorry but you are at the bottom of the food chain here and no one cares about your situation." The flare going out was symbolic. Fire is mankind's first weapon to keep predators at bay- the harnessing of fire was mans first step away from being at the mercy of nature. The flare dying here symbolizes their last protection ending and them being left alone with cruel nature.

I think the music almost frames the scene from the bug’s perspective. At times, it’s hardly noticeable, and doesn’t carry the tension of a big orchestral score in a 90s action film. It’s eerie yet relaxed, it drifts along listing; to me, that’s what this meal is to the bugs. It’s just a meal. They don’t see it as an action scene; they’re following instinct. The bugs don’t register the fear in the human’s faces of voices & they don’t show any emotion themselves outwardly. They’re eerily relaxed to their task at hand.

one of my favourite aspects of this scene (outside of the fact its absolutely horrifying and facinating at the same time) is the fact that the musical score plays such a background, almost unnoticed role in this scene, it's so subtle, spending it's time building the anticipation and itself without getting louder to then climax with the dramatic hero theme that kicks off when the rest of the crew arrives. it's stuff like that, that even when there are movies that are released today that have lots of flaws. moments like this remind me why i fell in love with cinema in the first place.

I know people critique the film for its length, particularly stemming from the first maybe 30 to 45 minutes while they’re in New York and out at sea, but to me, it really adds to the tone of the film and properly introducing the characters for the most part. Particularly contributing to the suspenseful buildup of them venturing towards the unknown, and the impact of what is found on the island is just as significant to the on screen characters, as it is to the audience watching. I also just love how cool they made New York look from the time era they were portraying, which looked like the 1920’s to 1930’s. We also don’t see Jack Black take on too many roles like this, if ever. So it was a real treat to see his range as an actor, which to me, was an exceptional performance done by him. I just love this film so much, and the video game based on the movie is also a hidden gem.
@RobTheDoodler2 ай бұрын
I thought the New York sequence was perfect.

Ironically the only parts I like of the story is everything from the boat to when they leave the island. It's a golden blueprint really, horror/action in a fictional "forgotten island/hidden ecosystem" that allows you to have dinosaurs and what not with the cast trying to push through it. If only the Jurassic Park movies were more like the novel, and kept a horror theme.

You could tell Peter Jackson was a huge fan of the original film, given that 2 moments in his remake (the Brontosaurus Stampede and the Bug Chasm) were based on scenes that were cut from the OG and have since been lost. As part of a bonus feature he even recreated the lost Bug Chasm scene using same or similar techniques that the original movie used back then.

In my opinion the best scene in this movie. There are so many really great scenes in this movie but for turning a action adventure film so far into a horror movie for a short few mins they did so well, the creatures react and move so well, it so scary how they seemingly fell into a empty pit/cave then they start to hear the putter patter of tiny not so tiny feet and appendages hitting the ground jumping from wall to wall, all working against each other but working together to get there meal, they move robotically, like they are programmed for these situations, god how horrifying

This scene is much better than 99% of current horror movies, a movie with a good script, serious, entertaining and spectacular, and you know what? The death of the characters is taken seriously, it seems ridiculous to mark this, but in today's cinema if someone dies it must be done without blood and jokes at the end so that what could have been a good moment is lost, that is really sad, visually better than all current marvel products.

Still can’t believe this movie was released in 2005, it has such good CGI and special effects, it looks like it came out from 2015! I think part of it is that back then, CGI took time and had a lot more effort put into it to make it seem more realistic, think about the Hobbit movies from 2012-2014, those graphics in those movies are so much better than the recent Marvel Movies like Thor: Love and Thunder, as well as Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness. The problem is that only a small amount of Directors actually care about the project and instead the majority only care about the money that the film provides. It’s kind of ridiculous because the movies with effort and detail story telling without any bullshit added in are usually the ones that make the most money, while the movies with rushed effects and cheap story telling, make a lot less than movies like this. The only problem with this movie’s box office is that this movie was only recognized and got a lot of attention until after it was released in theaters like around 1 year or 2. It’s sad really, because this movie could have had potential to be a franchise but stupid Hollywood only cares about money. Still though, this is one of those movies that got CGI advanced over the next 15 years, and inspired many different movies to come out.

The thing I absolutely adore about the creatures in Jackson’s vision of skull island IS THAT THEY DON’T MAKE VOCALISATIONS. No successful predator roars when it attacks. The V Rexes don’t roar, they gurgle, exhale and rumble and only yelp or screech involuntarily when thrown off balance or when in pain. The invertebrates (like real life) have no need to make any voluntary noises whatsoever. Nothing pulls me out of a monster movie trying to be realistic more than when a spider squeals or a giant crab roars. The only sounds we hear are the noises of skin retracting, claws landing on dirt and mandibles and exoskeletons flexing and creaking. Even the Venatosaurs which granted lean into Jurassic Park a bit more, don’t needlessly roar and scream. They chitter, bark, pant and croak all out of anticipation and excitement for the hunt not just because “Oh BiG aNiMaL mUst MeAn iT mAkEs ScAry MonStEr nOiSe”
