It's so crazy watching someone get into PF. Like just being like "wtf is this amazing stuff?" And you think it's a rabbit hole of never ending good songs and it is, but then you get through dark side and the wall and wish you were here and 2 years goes by because it takes so long to even process the layers, and then you discover Animals and here we go again. THEN you figure out what all that Syd Barrett stuff is about and realize they were basically a different band before, and then there's another rabbit hole. Then you get into the middle stuff you never noticed like Meddle and before you know it you've been a floyd fan for 10 years and you still keep discovering new layers. It's just... never ending. Amazing.

Pink Floyd is like staring at yourself in the mirror and confronting all the hard shit you never wanted to confront. Yet they'll do it so subtly you won't realize it till after it's done. The opening lyrics to this song is about the "machine" talking to one of its agents. ie A record company talking to one of its talent scouts. Looking for new bands to sign at any cost - but to the band. It could also be paralleled to a sports agent trying to sign someone promising them everything under the sun, but once you sign, Welcome to the machine. May I humbly suggest you do Pink Floyd "Great Gig in the Sky" it will BLOW your mind. A transcendental experience unlike no other.

Here's the deal with Pink Floyd. There are 4 albums that you have to listen to in their entirety (they are concept albums and meant to be listened to straight through). Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall. There are many other songs from other albums you should listen to (they have 11 studio albums), but these are the masterpieces that are straight through from start to finish telling stories that will change you forever. DSOTM is the one that I would suggest binging straight through from start to finish, it will take you on a journey

I love your reactions to Floyd. Reminds me of my first time, I was about ten, I'm now fifty three and still get goosebumps and tears!! This album becomes more poignant when you learn it was dedicated to Syd Barrett, a founding band member who had a breakdown as they got famous. The album is about how the excesses of the music industry broke him. The title track is a song about how the other members miss their old friend.

I'm really liking your reaction vids man. The thing that makes you different from a lot of the reaction channels is you actually listen closely to the whole song and don't just wait for some surprise to occur to react. You're very open minded and you recognize what most of these channels miss. I subbed yesterday or the day before after watching several of your videos. Hello.. Watching your reaction to this was a moment for me .. I am 53 and this whole album which I heard for the 1st time in 1980, was and still is a HUGE part my life, as is most of Pink Floyd's library of work … but this song in particularly just Grabbed my soul .. and all these years later .. it still moves me in the same way .. ..But your reaction moved me so much because … As I am watching this I'm in my office ( I work from home ) which was my childhood bedroom but now our home and it was IN THIS VERY ROOM in 1980 that I heard that album for the 1st time and it Moved me just as it did you.. I would .. and still do Play it Over & Over & to see someone react to it the same way I did .. while I am in the same room I heard it for the 1st time myself & felt the same way .. just really got me all emotional and really touched me lol as you can tell .. haha But it just shows that music is timeless. You will be a Pink Floyd fan for the rest of your days now … LoL If you haven't listened to Animals or Division Bell .. they are a must as well. And if you already haven't ..you need to listen to the entire album as well as Animals At Night .. with light wayyy low … and If God is being happy .. during a rain storm lol .. You just earned a subscriber, my friend! I'm surprised you haven't done Dream Theater! That band absolutely transcends music and becomes an emotion and an entire experience. Their songs have such deep meanings and are all musical masterpieces and have a VERY distinct sound to them. I'd suggest Metropolis Part 1: The Miracle and The Sleeper, Ministry of Lost Souls, or Octavarium (it's long but definitely worth it, it's an experience in of itself) Pink Floyd was one of the biggest influences of Dream Theater

I would like to suggest the Pink Floyd song "One Of These Days" from their Album MEDDLE (1971) ... also the song "Echoes" from the same album but know that "Echoes" is a real commitment at just over 23 minutes (it was originally the entire Side B of the Vinyl release back-in-the-day).

A lot of Scientists use this song as an example of perfect mathematics used for perfect music. All about the frequencies and mathematic transitions of notes and chords. It goes along with the Schumann Frequencies binding the Earth and every living thing on it together. Fascinating stuff.

As a little kid, I knew just a handful of Pink Floyd songs. Then in my teens, I started getting into classic rock, and gave The Wall my first listen from beginning to end from some CD's I checked out from the library. (Yeah, we used to do that LOL.) I was HOOKED. 30 years later, still rocking the PF. It's a real treat seeing somebody discover this stuff for the first time. I think all of us in the comment section experienced what you're experiencing, and that's why we LOVE them!

You’ve got to listen to the WHOLE album this comes from- WISH YOU WERE HERE (I saw your review of that song and it was excellent and your understanding of the power in the lyrics really impressed me since you are not a long time listener of theirs) Pink Floyd is meant to be listened to in its entirety as their albums are a continuance like one long song with different movements (like a concerto or an opera) with a central theme. It’s so hard for me to listen to this stopping where it does without hearing HAVE A CIGAR coming right after it. That should be your next Pink Floyd song!!! Right after this one comes that one. Then continue with each song in order one review at a time. I think You would love it and a lot of us would as well. It all ties together in Floyd you know. This song and the album it comes from is About their resentfulness, disappointment and dissolution with the record industry and management (the “machine”) only concerned with the next big commercial success and not caring about their music or artistry, only how much money they could make. As well watching the pressure and lifestyle deteriorate their dear friend and former band mate Syd Barrett until he disappeared; its believed today that he suffered from schizophrenia and his initial psychosis came on under the enormous industry pressure put on them right before Dark Side of the Moon, as well as repeated use of LSD. It’s a sad and tragic story to long to go into here but the album Wish You Were Here is also about losing yourself, and losing someone you love. Separately the songs are good, but It’s very powerful when listened to all together. You’d love it. Please go down the list and review each song on this album in order!!!! It would be epic!!!!!

LOL yes, you're absolutely right, Rebecca. It's from Wish You Were Here. As far as listening to the whole album, it also helps to know the history and that it was written about a founding/former band member (Syd Barrett) who basically lost his mind just as the band was really taking off. In that context, songs like Have a Cigar and Welcome to the Machine really take on a new meaning and drive home the point about Syd not being able to deal with all of the trappings of being a rock star where you're basically just a piece of meat for the music industry to chew up and spit out as they're making money off you.

It’s a powerful, gripping, beautiful, tragic album, full of pain and bitterness, sadness, regret and longing, just below the surface of the lovely, ethereal quality of the vocals and instrumentation. And the lyrics hit like a punch in the gut, especially when you know the motivation behind them. I’m beseeching PRESTON: PLEASE DO AN ALBUM REVIEW OF WISH YOU WERE HERE IN IT’S ENTIRETY!! Or pick any Floyd album and do it, but hoping for this one first since you’ve reviewed a couple songs off of it already. Would really enjoy watching you piece it all together when you hear it in it’s entirety. It will blow you away, and the reaction would be legendary! Help me get this going Caps!!
