Interesting documentary. Let's hope we can stop the oak wilt, and that mystery fungus or whatever that is now happening.

"...until the American Chestnut is brought back"-- yes, that's what I'm hoping! But sad to hear of another plague on another great tree that our forests rely on, the Red Oak.

And is that a little spice bush at the base of the oak on your property? That’s a fun one, they pop up here in limited quantities. Usually indicates limestone. Is your soil alkaline? Having the proper ph drastically impacts the health of any plant but I wouldn’t attempt messing with the soil around a big tree

Diameter of 2-3 feet, that’s cute…. Vermonts biggest has a 7.6’ diameter. It’s ten miles from me and I plan on getting shots of it. 2nd biggest is a few miles away

I think the two to three feet is the average. We have many that are over 2.
