This and Shadow Queen part 2 perfectly capture the fight going from hopeless to an all out brawl. They scream "the enemy may take damage now, but you haven't won yet."

There is not one rpg boss fight that I struggled with as a child, this fight took me almost a year to beat as a 9 year old. Still gives me nightmares lol.

Same here, except it took me 5 months and I was 15. I sailed through the game more or less without much of a struggle (I think I only ever spent 3 days on a boss) so this really took me by surprise!

same thing happened in the magnus von grapple 2.0 fight i lost as a kid and every time i played ttyd i would stop right befofe the fight everytime not even bothering to do the fight again , but now the fight is ridiculously easy.

This boss diddn't take me many attempts. However, each attempt took FOREVER! I remember the attempt I beat him, it was like trying to beat the clock because I was out of healing items at the end, so it was just a race between who could lower the enemies HP the fastest. This is my favorite final boss challenge-wise! Edit: No longer my favorite final but he's still amazing Edit 2: I remember during the very end of the fight he did that shockwave attack, and I failed to block it. I had around 3HP I believe, and my partner was taken out. Bowser was low but I didn't have enough to kill them (around 20HP), so I healed. And the bowser man healed. So I spent 3 turns trying to just survive Bowsers damage, then I finished him off with 1HP remaining. I remember because he did that poison attack and I blocked it. Leaving me with a single health point. I was finally able to kill him that round. I was shaking as a kid because I thought I lost and the adrenalin was pumping so hard when hearing the peril sound effect and realizing I won.

The thing is bowser will heal when you heal super annoying there's a trick to get around that but kind of difficult to time.

in dark star edition he has 150 HP, 20 attack and 2 defense. good luck with that :)

I remember being around 7 or 8 fighting him over and over failing each time until late one night o. A school night just as I was being told to go to sleep I finally won. I still remember how bring the room got during the cutscene

Trivia. The Japanese version of PM64 uses a remix of this for the final boss theme.

The japanese version is the original version, so they didn't "used a remix" of this theme, it's the other way around.

Reminds of the time where both my brother and I were trying to beat Bowser here. I carried all 3 Jelly Ultras, a Boo Sheet, I was also trying everything I possibly could to set me up. I did Chill Out, Water Block and Watt’s Attack Buff. But I remember centering around my hammer. I actually almost won against him. He was at 15 Health and all I needed to do was set up again. But I ran out of Star power so I couldn’t Chill Out and used the Boo Sheet when I was in trouble to get him down to low health. I was at 10 HP with 1 Life Shroom left and 5 FP. I figured instead of using the Jelly Ultra, so I jump charged to set up 1 more Power Bounce. He goes for the butt slam and I missed the action command and it took away my jump. So when I Jelly Ultra’d he healed for 30HP. So now I was back to 55 50. So it was alot of back and forth until I didn’t have any more items to heal but I had one more use of Chill Out, or Smooch for 20. Alot of hard decisions but the closest I ended up getting him down to was 5HP and I was at 1. I was so close to winning cuz of a triple charged Power Bounce. If I kept up the timing I would’ve won. But I failed it and it didn’t give Goombario enough damage to win so I charged him too. I thought I would get a lucky, but Life Shroom gave me one more chance. He uses the star wave move that knocked out Goombario cuz I couldn’t time it for both of us. So I charged hammer, hoping for some luckies. But at 10 HP left, Bowser went for the Flame Breath and I missed the action command. Losing the fight.
