King’s Speech: Stability and growth at heart of new government’s plans

Sir Keir Starmer has promised to "take the brakes off Britain" as he set out his government's plans in the King's Speech. At its heart, the economy - with a focus on stability and growth, as well as a bigger role for the state. It contains a huge number of bills. 40 altogether, almost half of which are aimed at boosting the economy.
They include reforms to planning rules to get more homes and infrastructure built. Setting up Great British Energy, a publicly-owned company that will invest in clean energy. Removing the right of hereditary peers to sit and vote in the House of Lords. And legislation left over from the last parliament, like phasing out smoking by progressively raising the age at which people can buy cigarettes.

I really hope they stop no fault evictions . I rented my place for ten years and ended up with a no fault eviction order . It was absolutely traumatic . Health care assistant in end of life care . Renting again and really worried this could happen again to me . I'm 64 and don't know how I would cope again if faced with another no fault eviction order. Rents are so high in South east England

The monarch has theoretic power, but if any monarch actually tried to exercise any of them ever they would be completely ignored because they have as much influence on politics as a cardboard cutout of the queen except by personal persuasion. They’re a marketing strategy for the tourism industry, not something important. Ever heard the phrase “the crown in parliament”? It’s because the actual power of the monarch lies with parliament which the monarch is allowed to turn up at during their opening ceremony each year, and then has to sit quietly until it’s time to go home until next until it’s time for the Christmas speech, see you next year Charlie.

With the housing it's not just the houses that need to be constructed. You're not just talking about 1 or 2 houses you're talking about many thousands of house, which all need water, sewage, electricity, internet, roads. The internet is the easy one on that list. We need new reservoirs, or the UK won't have enough water, well if you look at all the hose pipe bans the UK already doesn't have enough reservoirs.

I believe in sorting out the housing crisis without using the green belt area, is to use the lands owned by members of the House of Lords instead of our green belt area, taking in consideration that the buyers are going to be the land owners and not paying ground rent. A feudal system is still in place in England and it is not compatible with modern times. Who believes that Labour is going to make any change? I don't.
