the main issue is that if Matilda had a brother like in the dance not a soul would have sided with her they would have paid lip service at best because if we talking precedents im surprised no one mentions that being able to overturn your first born son with a decree is not the most favorable choice,

A neglected corner of English history. Could be subtitled "The rise of the Plantagenets". Henry II doesn't get the credit he deserves due to Beckett's death/murder, Richard Coeur de lion+Crusades & John+Magna Carta. Henry III is overlooked as it is Edward I who gets the attention. If you do ever have the opportunity, one topic I would really love to learn more about is the pre-1066 rulers. That was excellent. King Stephen was a bit of mystery to me. Thanks for story. Henry II was my favorite of all the English kings. Still he himself found it hard to yield power after he gained it, that cost him. Stephen claim to the throne was legit, in my opinion. He just had to many shifting barons to contend with. Great story, English history is the best. They wrote it all down, that is the secret.

I am curious to know something about the Anarchy. During the Anarchy did Lords have small-scale conflicts for each other's holdings etc? As we know from historical sources, there was a widespread breakdown in law and order, so surely small-scale conflicts happened during this? If so, are there any sources or stories? I have read of small scale squabbles in other conflicts such as The Wars of the Roses.

A book titled Stephen by Carl Watkins (it’s quite short and only a few pounds off Amazon) provides a very good account on the relationships between Stephen, Matilda and the Barons and demonstrates very well how they kept switching allegiance’s whenever it suited. The Barons also did pursue their own campaigns against each other frequently, fighting over land and so on, this carried on for many years after the Anarchy. However, they did also join forces (well many of them) and fought against the monarch in the first and second Barons wars.

OK, factually, not terrible. But I had to give up. A montage of random images that have little to do with the narration? Rolls of watercolor paper with norse runes? Has what to do with Stephen and Matilda? Costumes overtly not of the right period. Other than most of the time the sex of the odd actor who was to represent whoever was being spoken of was right? This has descended to the level of The History Channel. Pass. Hard pass.
