I had a boyfriend once who I tried to get into listening to that Gervais podcast (ages ago..) and couldn't understand why he didn't find it funny. Then years later, was watching one of the TV shows with Karl in, with said boyfriend, and realised that the boyf was seriously agreeing with everything Pilkington was saying 🤣 THAT'S why he didn't find him funny, because he is on the same planet as Karl 🤣🤣

The logic puzzle Ricky gives to Karl reminds me of a time when they were still doing radio and a listener emailed in. They asked Karl to prove that he was broadcasting _live_ and not just a prerecording. Karl's bald little head almost exploded trying to think of a way to prove that he was live.

Lesson learnt from the great Karl. Get on with my life, don't worry about other things, don't worry about what's going on around me or before me or after me. Just do things and live my life (like DIY and going on holiday to places you have been before and know are sound). I am educated.

Karl is a working class, northern, national treasure. He has a very interesting outlook on the world around him. He is often called out for not being 'intelligent' but without any qualifications (1 x E in History?) he started out on hospital radio and grafted his way to being a producer at XFM. At XFM he met Ricky and Steve, he was clever enough to realise that the last thig that show needed was a 3rd 'smart alec', he needed to be the catalyst for discussions and feed RG and SM with the material they needed to make the show as interesting as it was. Karl may be the greatest producer of all time, 15 years later people still love the material the trio pumped out, I miss Karl, Steve and Ricky chatting,

The last thing he wanted was to be part of the show, though. It took Ricky and Steve 2 years of incessant coaxing to get him to where he was comfortable being basically the 3rd host. He tried to get out of it but he literally needed money for a new kitchen lmfao.

One of the reasons I love your content, especially around Ricky & Karl, is that it’s awesome to me, as a Brit, that it demonstrates how much we have in common. Laughter brings people together, when done well for the right reasons. Ricky and Karl (especially Ricky on his own) have such multilayered ideas and targets for humour that it’s quite complex. It’s not some guy hitting another guy with a plank stuff. Ricky is intensely generous, accepting and inclusive in his life, of every choice, so be that stupidity, history, politics, race and gender differences, but his live shows are a rollercoaster of edgy jokes that play up to stereotypes. He quickly sees how his audience understands what his point is when you see him live. So, he’ll tell bigoted jokes and push things as a way to make the opposite point. You know you shouldn’t find it funny. He starts laughing at himself, because he shouldn’t find it funny, but he uses it to take the rip out of people who do think that’s funny and all they need to do to make people laugh. He quickly realises, especially if you’re in the stalls near the front, who understands the layers and the deliberate flipping of opinions of the audience. So you’re laughing at him, at the jokes, at the ideas, and the sort of people who don’t get it… You get it on all the levels. You absolutely grasp that and it’s kind of a level that Brits would think that you’d kind of have to be a Brit for it to be funny or even relate to. (Actually, your understanding the various levels of lunacy with Bob Mortimer should’ve been a big clue). Keep up the fun work. Honorary UK citizenship for Boomer! Keep up the good work. It’s so fun watching it (even though we mostly have seen everything(ish) watching it with someone else. It’s like waiting for the bit we know is coming up and it makes it fresh again)

Ricky gave the hint.. *at least* 1 kid is lying, and you know beforehand that 1 is a girl, the other is a boy. So that gives you 2 scenario's (either 1 of them is lying, or they are both lying): If only one of them is lying: The boy lies, which means you would end up with two kids saying they're a girl.. The girl lied, you have two kids saying they're boys. Since you know they both are a different gender, this leaves the scenario that both have to be lying. Which means that the one saying she's a girl, is actually the boy. So, the boy is blonde.

I am a long time fan of Karl's content. The animated Ricky Gervais Show is up there with some of my all time favourite shows and I've watched it many times growing up. However, I revisited some of it more recently and had a penny drop moment - I think there is a really good chance that Karl has undiagnosed Autism. I say that as the sister of someone who had a diagnosis at age 30. He is so black and white/literal, and has so many little quirks and memories, particularly when he talks about childhood, that makes me think it could be the case. For example, sensory issues, hyper focus interests and rigid opinions. Autism presents in so many different ways, particularly in adults. I am very close with my sister, so maybe that's also why I am so fond of Karl and interested in his brain. Who knows!

@Mizza lukie That's not correct Mizza. TBBT is a direct result of applying the scientific method. We don't have as much scientific confidence in all the implications of the theory, but the idea that the universe used to be closer together is a result of the scientific method. When criticizing Ricky I'm talking about the ad-lib way he comes up with points on the spot. As opposed to someone that has lessons and rhetoric prepared. Ricky struggled to answer why obscure research is important to ordinary people. I could've explained it better because I'm prepared.

@Mizza lukie Also biology does not say that life can't come from non-life.
@xXscreamingkoalaXx
@xXscreamingkoalaXx 2 жыл бұрын
@Mizza lukie That's not how scientific questions are asked. That'd be a logical fallacy. "It's never happened before therefore it's impossible." Just because I don't have an example doesn't mean it's impossible. There has been progress in biology recently on the subject of the origin of self-replication. They discovered how a non-living cell could aquire the cell wall needed to become a living cell. That's part of the explanation. They're still working on the rest. But the science absolutely doesn't say it's impossible.

Ricky isn't trying to explain where the initial matter came from, it's not the greatest explanation of "The Big Bang", which wasn't a term coined by the scientific community and was originally stated ironically, a better phrase would be "everything expands".
