I have ridden this thing many times (probably about 20 times in the last 13 years). The scariest thing I’ve experienced (yes, scarier than a rollback) is a very balanced stall right at the top, and the coaster was so well placed on top that neither the back nor the front would pull the coaster for a few seconds. Then slowly, the coaster started moving forward, very very slowly as i see the 450+ foot drop in front of us. It was the longest 4 seconds of my life as we slowly gained momentum and completed the drop ! That was the scariest. Every time it functions correctly, it really isn’t that scary if you’re used to riding rollercoasters.

Rollbacks are actually completely common for this ride! It has a set up where if it does roll back (usually due to cart weight,) the cart will stop before the launchpad so it won’t hit another cart that is waiting to launch. Here it went forward. What we see is not a “near stall/rollback,” the ride is determining whether it is safe to continue forward or should rollback.

As a Jackson NJ resident, if the ride rolls back, you’re perfectly safe. It’s designed that if it rolls, it’ll safely roll back down the track to the start. Still horrifying.

The sound has nothing to do with the age of the coaster. Its just the wire carrying the train, as for hydraulic launches as this one a wire needs to be attached to the train at the start of the launch track that will then pull it violently using hydraulic pressure allowing it to clear that speed and height quickly. Thats what makes the sound at the beginning, and the rest of the sounds you hear is just normal coaster sounds.
