Only if you are unhappy with your settlement, it's only then that you should lodge a dispute with the assistance of a lawyer. Why do lawyers want to get involved at the beginning, assuming that people will be under-settled? How do they know that? It goes back to Letsoalo's argument that they just fill in forms and charge clients tens if not hundreds of thousands of rands.

I personally know 3 people whom were screwed over by lawyers in RAF claims. 1 was even given a loan by their lawyer to assist him financially whilst he waits for his claim to go through, he is still waiting since 2019 and his loan had accumulated interest. Yes lawyers are good to ensure you get just compensation, but there are predators in the field as well. Personal opinion, protecting the vulnerable should be core here

Honestly, if processes are simplified and payment brackets are clarified then there wont be a need for lawyers because we would know how to claim and for what we are entitled to. I still haven't heard what is it that the lawyers do outside of filling in forms. What is the donkey tasks that they do to relief the pressure from RAF? Wouldn't the documents required for a claim address the issues of proof and qualification of the claim? They mentioned that lawyer spend about R100k to R250K to submit a claim but never explained what that money goes to. The mentioned without a lawyer the claimant gets under paid, so they are involved to maximise the pay out so they get the highest payment into their pockets (25%). About the people in the rural area struggling to access RAF offices, i don't think it's any easier for them to access a lawyer.

With all due respect to each and every comment. The botton line remains the fact, that the RAF always settle for less. We had a client that has received an offer of R800 000.00 from the RAF. The client was unhappy with the offer, and consulted with us. At the end of the day we obtained a court order for R4 850 000.00 in favour of our client. Who acted in the best interest of the client. The RAF or the client's lawyer??? The RAF will never act in the best interest of any claimant. Botton line...........

The prescription issue doesn't make sense. Prescription only applies if you have not claimed within a prescription period, you as a claimant. But if you did claim, it cannot prescribe.

N:B Watch Mr Letsoalo RAF media brief that took place on the 07 December 2024, where he responded to this Podcast and tell me what you think of it, in relation to the top 10 Law firms which got a range of R462 million - R90 Million, from 14 April 2024-18 November 2024. Gert Nel ( white Lawyer beside Ngwako) got around R262 million, so one has to acknowledge the reason why the lawyer is advocating for representation, even though I think one is needed, 25% which lawyers get from the pay-outs, in some cases unfair.

Gert Nel is one of the top 5 RAF lawyers in South Africa. The total amount of claims his practice have atteted to, are more that 17 000 in the last 25 years. Most of the claimants are referrals by previous clients. Proof is in the pudding. Letsoalo is a cancer. Letsoalo was the main reason why Transnet failed. What happenned. The Department of Transport and Public Works, just moved him to another section of their Department, namely the RAF. What a disaster to say the least. All people who were scammed by lawyers must be checked if they are fairly paid if lawyers has scammed their clients must reimburse them. How can someone who doesn’t work at RAF know exactly what are true numbers. I fail to understand why people has to claim if the hospital know that people who was admitted in hospital was involved in car accidents they should automatically submit to RAF and claim for compensation immediately let everything processed and other copies must be handed over to the victim just to have proof of what was submitted to RAF with no lawyers involved.
