That's an awesome done vid ngl. But I never had such weird bugs, I played it through this year with some DLC's. Maybe it is kinda different playing it on Linux (like I did) but I never had the missing army at the battle, or npc's trying to step on non existing stairs. The only thing I sometimes had was the "demon guards" thing, as you've called it in your vid. But it happened rarely to me. Best Greetz :)

Okay, while you are correct this game is very ambitious, and Warhorse is a new studio, a lot of key people are actually veterans, who are in the industry since the 90s. No idea, if any of these games will ring any bell, but these guys worked on titles like Mafia, ArmA, Operation Flashpoint, Hidden and Dangerous and Vietcong. That said, it still is quite the achievement, considering this is rather small studio, comparable to Obsidian in size.

I bought this game just before I went for hip surgery (yeah, at 27 ffs). I spent the 12 weeks of recovery playing this game. The story is great due to the almost simplistic nature of it. The gameplay is Unforgiven though, being a big fan of the elder Scrolls series I thought combat would be easy but after multiple hours of training it gives each fight with bandits a new meaning. I also love how quests will just happen whether you go with the NPC's or not. Anyway, it's my 30th this June and my wife is taking me to Prague so no doubt we will venture south to experience the games locations!
@pippodopolous
@pippodopolous 2 жыл бұрын
Funny how a simplistic story can pull you into a game more than most other AAA-games because, while there's no grand hero or saviour of the common people, it's a story about a simple man in difficult times of his country. I feel like there's enough stories about heroes, we need more small scaled stories like this. It's a world including just a few villages, but there's so much believability in it that you don't need these great heroes of history in it. You don't even feel like a big part of history, and that's what I love about this game. Anyways, have fun in Prague my dude :)

This game really took me by surprise. After the buggy intro I had to the game with so many issues present in skalitz, I was determined to hate it. but I forced myself to play it because I bought it. Thank god I did because it is now one of my favorite games of all time, due to the pacing, Henry being fucking hilarious, and the in depth nature of just about everything. The depth and meaning of player choice in gameplay is astounding. “Shall I take the left or right path?” Well the left has a suspicious looking man, and the right has a clash. You could sneak past the clash or risk an encounter with an ambush due to suspicious man. Each of these options has weight due to the genuine potential loss of progress and consequences for your actions. It’s so D&D and fleshed out. For example, You could sneak into a bandit camp at night when they have two dudes awake on patrol while one sleeps, sneak a lullaby potion in their pot of food, wait until they pass out, and steal all of their shit without hurting anyone. This game is absolutely brilliant in its gameplay decisions and their actual impact. Another thing that is great is the leveling you get better at something as you do it kind of hand in hand to oblivion, but done in a far more complicated way so as to not also inherit the exploits present in oblivions leveling. Ex, sneaking into a wall for 2 hours and becoming sneak master. This game manages to achieve an experience I’ve not felt since my look at morrowind. Pure immersion and pure rich storytelling with consequential choices that affect the game state, dialogue, even quests! Almost every single quest has a billion different ways to complete something. If there is a stealth mission, chances are you can go loud with the same outcome with positive or negative connotations attached. Ex, ‘go loud, lose some men, lose favor with your liege lord’, OR, ‘go stealth, no casualties, bonus groschen from liege lord’. All of these things play into eachother simultaneously and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever played. Also the commitment to realism and accuracy when it comes to the actual swordplay animations and moves, down to the architecture of the time, language, behaviors, and even routines of the NPC’s are all as historically accurate as possible. Except for the clothes :/. This game shook my view of the current gaming industry and made me realize we lost games that didn’t cut every corner. Warhorse deserves immense praise for this title.

Great review. But I have 2 little nitpicks: 1) Master strikes aren't exclusively hidden in the codex. The NPC you train fighting with tells you about them, and even requires you to complete a lesson about them to unlock using them in combat. 2) The night mission doesn't actually require you to be level 5 in stealth to progress the main story. Sure if you want to see all of that mission, you need it. But you can fail that mission and just progress with the main story nevertheless. This is actually a thing I really like about the game, that in almost every mission, you can deviate from the path laid out by the mission goals and that sometimes "failure" turns out to be the real success and vice-versa.
@MitchManix
@MitchManix 2 жыл бұрын
Glad u enjoyed it. Yeah I mentioned about learning the master strikes. Barnard takes you through perfect block/feinting etc at the start but had no idea about master strikes till I read up on it. I also really like the way you can complete missions, unfortunately for me after failing the objective in the night raid up till that point assumed it would have a really negative impact on the story and would have trained stealth if I knew I 'needed it'. Have you played any of the DLS's and would you recommend them? Also thanks for watching :)

@@MitchManix "I want to learn master strikes" was in Bernard's training menu at least since he arrived home after the Ginger quest. If you kept going back to train with him, you must've missed it a lot of times. And even if you didn't, he DID tell you to come back later so he can teach you more.

@@MitchManix The game does its absolute best to not let you save scum, but you insisted on doing it anyway. The game isn't mad, just disappointed. Unsurprisingly, in a stealth mission, you need stealth. A more valid criticism would be the Runt encounter. You're forced to fight him in a locked room and if you haven't done much fighting until then, you need to go back and reload and retrain. In the beta, not only was there an exit, you could also fail and still progress.

She starts to spread her message as you act as her advisor and muscle since some folks dont like what she is doing. Of course, this is medieval times, so anything religious not condoned by the church leads to church involvement and things go from there. I wont spoil anything but henry adds medieval lawyer to his ever increasing list of job titles. It really gives you an insight to how the church operated as the judge jury and executioner back then and how tyrannical they could be. Man I will never forget my 300 hour playthrough of hardcore kingdom come. I was worried about hardcore mode because of all it changes in the game, but it makes the game far superior and more immersive. For the first 200+ hours of play time. All I did was wander the world of Bohemia on foot as a traveling thief and hunter doing what side quests I could find to keep food in my belly, and when that failed I went around robbing houses and selling stolen goods to the millers. By the time I started the story I had maxed out nearly every single skill except combat and by the end of the story I had mastered that too. It was one of the most satisfying experiences I ever had in gaming. To go from a wandering petty thief to the son of a noble who runs his own town is just perfection.

I somehow have gotten through a couple of years of play with virtually never encountering any of the bugs or visual artifacts that other people have reported. I also continue to find amazing new content buried around. Having played through almost five complete times portraying Henry with different motivations, I'm still finding new story threads, scenes, and entirely unexpected outcomes. The NPC life paths are also brilliantly diverse. Nothing so frustrating and also amazing as going to a particular shop only to find out that shop keeper decided to go fishing for the day, slept in, or is traveling to a nearby town. Or coming across NPCs settling in at nightly routine or laboring through their day. Just sat one afternoon watching a baker in his back yard going through all of the steps to prepare, bake and store his bread for the next market while also attending to other chores randomly while the bread would brown in the oven. And the same sort of detail is present for almost every NPC. Also, on the fighting, this game absolutely awards skill and practice. Having actually done some sword fighting in real-life, the mechanics are incredibly good, with ranging, timing, and positioning being crucial. It's also entertaining once you've mastered combat to come back to a new game and just wreck everyone in your path, even before learning the master strokes. And that translates uniquely to different weapon types and archery as well, though quality of the equipment definitely has a big impact. Really great seeing so many people return to the game recently. The graphics are still stunning and it's one of the most immersive natural environments I've experienced. I actually find wandering through the forest to be incredibly relaxing, especially with the sun just peaking through and the natural sounds. Though, I'm definitely feeling a bit hungry... ;)

I like how even after you've leveled up significantly, any fight still requires you the player to focus and get the timing right, and especially a fight against multiple adversaries isn't like a fight as a high-level character in Skyrim where you just go "oh, I have so many hitpoints and deal so much damage I'm just going to be lazy and bludgeon these guys while absorbing their hits"... if you take even one bad lucky blow to the head from some inept enemy you might be *completely* screwed for the rest of the fight. It makes the fights... well, kind of like a serious fight in real life, even if you have a lot of experience and training. "Alright, I can definitely take this guy, but don't let him get a lucky strike in or it could all go to hell."

Immersion and atmosphere of this game are amazing. I've never felt anything like this in any other rpg. Take that infamous monastery quest, for instance: even long after completing it, I would often get a certain melancholic feeling when thinking about the other novices and say stuff like "oh, it's 6pm, the other novices must be having dinner right now" to myself. At one point I climbed that scaffolding in Sassau from which one can see the cloister garden and I just stood there, watching the monks doing ther afternoon work in the garden. Yeah, ok, I might also be a little wird, but still, this game is unique.

I felt the same way. That was the best quest in gaming history, it took me over a week of in game time, I really made the effort to immerse myself and to really become that insurgent. Once I pickpocketed the key off the priest in the morning, if you catch him early on his patrol before the sermon, and was able to sneak out at night it offered a unique way to complete the mission. But that is just it, how many different ways can someone deal with that mission? That it what makes this game unique. It takes patience but if you allow yourself to truly dive into this world, it is another level of immersion.

The bugs still present and some design choices really annoy me, but the game caters so much to my preferences in immersion and storytelling that I can't help but love it. It has a lot of potential for the future if Warhorse learns from their mistakes for whatever continuation KC:D gets. On another note, the samefaces are hilarious. I sometimes like to think some people we met before come in another form to take vengeance on us. It also happens with the voices too, when you realize half of the women in Bohemia speak like Henry's mom or Bianca, some men speak like Fritz and uncle Peshek's spirit lives on in some guards and authority figures, ironically enough.

Don’t know what happened but I gave it another try 2 years later and now I can make an argument that it’s my favorite ever. It was worthy of the platinum!

Master strikes are taught to you by the trainer outside rattay. The one you were training with, you just had to come back a couple more times. . It looks like you tried to run through the plot without taking time to do things like hunt in the forest every few days, sneak around restricted areas. Using your hunting spoils to buy some fancy clothes so all the town npcs call you lord and sir and some backup clothes so you don’t keep having to hit the bathhouse for laundry. I’m really happy to hear you liked it. With the expansion you get to actually be mayor of that rundown town and rebuild it. It’s very cool. Good video 😊

I just got this game a week ago, and I'm SO impressed with it. I wake up at 520 to go to work Monday through Friday. This game kept me up till 130. I've never played an RPG that made me do that(Although one more turn strat games have 🥴). Imo this game is absolutely phenomenal. I'm hoping this isn't a one off and they make another kingdom come game and don't tone down the "difficulty". Another great game that really surprised me like this one was Dragons Dogma. Which was really difficult in its own way. I hope and pray Kingdom Come doesn't end up without a sequel like Dragons Dogma.

I personally have never experienced anything like this game so far. As you said the emersion is just breathtaking, with all the beautiful landscapes and sunrises that are looking like they could actually exist in the real world (In comparison to other games where the whole Sky just turns Red and Orange and what not when the sun goes down). But I also liked the amount of freedom that the game gives you and the way the world reacts to what you are doing. It was so mindblowing to me that you could just go into every house and there are actual people living there that you can find on the streets at daytime and for example if you steal the armor of a guard at night he just wont wear it the next day. Luckily I never ran into the same issues that you had, where you couldnt do the mainquest etc. (I guess I just had to much fun to stab everyone from behind before this quest) but I guess you have to keep in mind that this game started as a crowd funding project and is Warhorse Studios first game. But this just gives me more hope that their 2nd game will be even more awesome when their first one was already so impressive. Really nice review. Its always interesting to hear another perspective on a game I already played, so thanks for that.

oh, Greg he'll getcha. I was obsessed with this game from the start I have a huge tolerance for bugs I guess, and I loved the climbing combat and the amazing way it pulls you in once you understand you must keep returning to the combat trainer and understand you cannot even properly hold a bow until archery level 10 it gets easier but has an insane amount of replay ability. Playing as a rough thief will lead you down a road you would have never seen playing a stand-up white knight.

KCD is one games I really never bothered to even try since I don't like historical games, but after getting it for free and playing for a few hours it quickly became one of my favorite games of all time. It's full of flaws and really far from perfect, but it's fun as hell the entire time, too bad the modding community didn't grow well, I'm sure it would be a whole lot more successful otherwise.

Those small glitches with AI pathing or NPC blending are p. normal for all big, open-world games, it's a bit unfair to single out KCD for them, you can find them in games by Ubisoft, Rockstar, Bioware and others, way bigger teams with way bigger budgets. All in all this is a very stable game and an incredible gaming experience.

I had one of the best RPG experiences of my life, even when it had game breaking bugs stopping the player from progressing in the story. I think I lost like 10hrs of progress because I didn't do quests in the order which worked and I wasn't even that mad, because I genuinely liked doing it again. this is a good reminder that I need to get back into this game and hopefully, maybe, someday finish it. I think part of what is taking me so long is the feeling that I 'have' to grind Henry's skills and abilities before progressing the story, and grinding archery and hunting isn't 100% enjoyable. Grinding flower picking on the other hand . . . In any case, I really enjoyed this review and re-look, and I would love to see what warhorse come up with next! Hopefully we can all afford the GPUs needed to experience their follow-up to this ultimately quite surprising initial offering. (Large scale battle with bandits as well as the framerate, lmao!)

Would 100% recommend finishing it. I found that not everything was required to level as the game lets you settle on more of a build to get through the main game. Picked up this game in 2022 and absolutely love the immersion like you said with the alchemy mechanics. I just wished that they implemented a blacksmithing side of it considering that you play as the son of a blacksmith. I heard it got taken out, not sure what the reason was but I hope they would reconsider doing it in a future Kingdom Come game.

I dig it. It’s an investment, which I like in my rpgs, and while I personally admittedly hate shoulder-tap mechanics like hunger, weapon maintenance, etc, they still did work some really cool and different things out with them. Like when I found out I was getting detected while sneaking because I hadn’t bathed and they can smell me? Pretty neat honestly. That’s just one minor example, but the little things, ya know?

And finally a master warrior and alchemist who took two bandit fortresses singlehandedly while helping those he came across and showing mercy to those that yield (thanks for the talk Radzig)

Literally everything about this game aged like fine wine. For the first game ever made by Warhorse, the graphics are outstanding even to today's standards, and the overall gameplay and story definitely stands out amongst the dozens of Medieval style games. I would greatly appreciate a game that takes the same approach of making success dependent on not only still Training but perfecting your own competence with a Complex Mechanic, like the combat System or alchemy table, the absolute walking the line, micromanagement type of experience that kcd is, but in a classic RPG-fairytale-fantasy setting with Elves, Magic and Monsters. Realistic Non-Reality, so to say. Other settings that would really vibe with this type of experience: the wild West; a more 'wild' alternate victorian London (as in London light plus some settlements and roads to get robbed on),similar settings in Paris and Vienna. A Crossover between KCD and Sea of Thieves, with one or two big port cities represented plus outskirts, and multiple paths to walk, not only Piracy but trading, merc Work, groceries etc. And of course da big ol Japan during a lesser known internal war, just like a KCD reskin, seeing a Bastard son of a Samurai leader become his Personal Ninja Samurai Diplomat Errand boy, because that's kind of who we were as Henry. Literally, i just noticed how i always have a black outfit with sneaky shoes, a suit of shining armor complete with underwear and a set of fancy clothes on my horse at all Times because those seem to be at Times Required for the Job.
