15:00 We got RIPPED OFF here. This should have been a cinematic masterpiece like the secret ending was. It would have been like: A cinematic cutscene switches over. The Guardians arrive on the cross roads where they see the True Organization XIII approach them lead by Master Xehanort. Xehanort begins his speech all the while the sky begins to darken with stormy clouds. Flashes of light and dark lightning begin to flash in the sky. The Organization send a cloud of darkness towards the guardians, to which they reply by summoning their keyblades where a bright light illuminated the darkness away. Forcing the hooded figures to shield their eyes. The guardians in their stances hold their possession for Xehanort to make the first move. Everyone waiting in silence. All that is heard is the rumbling of thunder and the breeze of the wasteland… Xehanort yells to begin to which all of his Organization members still wearing their hoods fly past him and heads towards the guardians. Xehanort sitting back to watch. The guardians charge forward as well. All of them running towards the middle of the crossroads where they meet at a collision. A big clash of Light and Dark energy emerge upon impact. To which Xehanort smirked at the sight. Everyone is at war with one another. Attacks are flying left and right. Clashes of blades and magic. The guardians using teamwork to defend themselves against the onslaught of the hooded figures. Everyone defending each other and themselves to the best of their abilities. Sora eventually decides to break through and rush Master Xehanort who replies with summoning mountain’s similar to what he did before in the past. Sora rushes up to climb the mountains. Three Organization members begin to follow him, to which Sora has to defend against their attacks, a fight on the side of the mountain accours, only to be saved by Riku and Mickey who tell him to go while they hold them back. Sora complies and meets Xehanort on the top. Sora clashes blades with Xehanort who later uses wind and lightning to push him back knocking him off the mountain with great force. Kairi catching his fall. Xehanort begins to raise his hands to summon his organization again, where they join him on top of the mountain to help create a maze/stone castle fortress around the battle field. Everyone getting separated in the mess of it all. Sora and Kairi reach out for each other before a wall blocks them from the others view. Cinematic ends. Gameplay resumes where they Guardians take on the Organization individually.

For anyone who is asking how Sora was able to say Xion’s name when no one remembered her, let me point out what she said at the end of 358/2 Days. She told Roxas as he got captured by Riku and DiZ that even though Roxas will forget about her, the memories themselves will never go away and that the memories of both her and Roxas will be together forever inside him, meaning Sora. Also, I’m growing sick and tired of people who are calling Kairi useless. For those who are saying that the story is poorly written, let me point out to you that Nomura once stated that it was difficult for him to keep track of every detail in the series.

Sure, everyone's memory of Xion disappeared, but that doesn't mean the memories made around her were forgotten either, it doesn't mean those days were completely forgotten either. Axels starts remembering Xion because he spent a lot of time with her, he was gonna start noticing memory gaps eventually. Xion physically reappearing was probably what they needed to remember her completely

Kind of disappointing that the lingering will only got a little bit of screen time only to what I'm assuming is die/be destroyed off-screen, but it only doing so much kind of makes sense, at least in my mind. Thinking about it, the lingering will seemed like it could only move about for brief periods at a time - either requiring long "rest" periods between or only having a very limited amount of time (hence the "lingering" part of the name) before it disappears for good. If the latter is correct, then it makes sense why it stayed in the key blade graveyard instead of pursuing Xehanort. So it remained motionless to conserve its strength for when Xehanort finally returned, only springing to life once when it mistook Sora for Xehanort (provided that fight is canon). I imagine by the time Xehanort did return to the graveyard (10-12 years?) it had maybe minutes of "life" left to spare. In my mind, the cutscene probably would've gone one of two ways: 1) the lingering will forced Terranort to fall back, with it returning to signature stance for the last time (or maybe falling apart), 2) Terranort wins the struggle and smash it into pieces with its last thoughts being of aqua and ven before the will vanish for good. When can obviously assume the lingering will lost that fight and is probably no more, but it would've been nice to actually see.

The lingering will is all just that, a 'will'. This means that before Terra got body snatched, he activated his armor and embedded his 'will' or memories or data written into it so to speak. And because the armor actually isn't Terra's body, it was temporarily 'made' to be a body carrying his 'mind' (possibly he put a tiny bit of his heart into it?). Whenever Terranort appears, the armor actually revives because the connection to his 'heart' (The guardian) is near and is able to animate sorta like remote control, even though the heartless version of Guardian seems to be 'controlled' by Xehanort, Terra's heart still has a mind of its own, it's just 'forced' into a corner of the heart. When the armor is destroyed or disappear, Terra's will actually went back into his real body I guess, and helped weaken and 'free' the Guardian from the mind control of Xehanort.

According to Nomura, Sora's extensive use of the Power of Waking caused a singularity and he was able to rewrite time. If an author drops the word "singularity" at the end of the 9th game, with absolutely no context or prior mentioning, you know that he doesn't give a crap anymore. This is why when he was split between a heartless and nobody, he had a much STRONGER form to make for it and his 'nobody' did not submit to oblivion or even losing sight of it's goal. Hence why it is called 'Lingering Will'. Sure his darkness was pretty deep at the time, but the darkest of darkness also holds the smallest but brightest light.

When he used the keyblade on himself to force Terra out, it was a different method than if a person 'dies' and becomes a heartless. Xehanort did not want to completely 'remove' Terra from the body, but to 'chain' him, hence instead of ejecting the heart, he 'converted' Terra's heart into his shadow? This way Terra doesn't escape and have his own 'freedom' as a heartless to act as he will (of which he would strive to fight and interfere with Xehanhort later if so), and Terranort can keep a 'link' to control him. I think Lingering will offscreen 'vanished' during the fight and 'injected' its will into the guardian or Terranort's shadow without him noticing, weakning Xehanort's hold on him, waiting for the right moment to strike.

Actually I have a recent theory What if Xigbar actually died and became Braig briefly only to Turn himself back into a Nobody again Reason for that, was because he wanted to die the first time to be free of the Xehanort’s Heart fragment, so he can no longer be bound to his will He then turns himself back into Xigbar for two possible reasons. He did say that the Lingering Will was another type of entity different from Heartless and Nobodies and that Xehanort's Guardian (or that stupid name he gave it, "The Person Behind You") was not a Heartless. He described it as a container for Terra's heart to surpress his will from his body, or some shit like that. And the Lingering Will is Terra's discarded thoughts, emotions and will (his spirit) possessing his armor.

All those battles and experiences further strengthen him Still he did lost his powers in DDD, after nearly being Xehanort’s 13th vessel. Even with all that, it should take him some time to rebuild his strength Riku Was strong as he can be after being named a Keyblade Master, powered up by mastering his Dream Eater Powers, haven’t lost his strength in DDD, and should be even stronger with his new Keyblade Braveheart Still unlike Sora, instead of fighting in the front lines, saving worlds As he did in DDD, Riku was mostly traveling in the Realm of Darkness searching for Aqua In his fight with Anti-Aqua, he apparently merged with the spirit of the Riku Replicac which should have made him stronger still And at the first ending of the Final Battle, while Sora gave into despair, Riku fought on and for a moment held back a wave of Heartless that threatened to consume them, before it did in the end, but was a remarkable feat Point is, while Sora has reason to be strong, so does Riku and should have indeed have more canon chance to prove himself as a Keyblade Master of the Road to Dawn

I know this is super late but despite the fact that in BBS Kingdom Hearts was real. It was opened with a X-Blade made through "unoffical" means (I.E. no Keblade War nor the clash of 13 darkness and 7 lights). At least, that's what I figured.

I been wondering the same thing. Apparently, it takes thirteen deaths to rebuild it, and it doesn't matter if they are from the light or dark. Twelve just happened to be from the dark side, but the last one, Kairi, was from the light side. Kind of makes me wonder why there needs to be 7 Guardians of Light and 13 Seekers of Darkness, precisely, if all it takes is thirteen deaths no matter from which side. There is one part that does make sense, that it is a key forged from deaths. In KH BBS, Master Xehanort explained to Ventus that the greek letter chi is a word that spells endings or death. At least that part is consistent.

I was expecting the fragments to look like the Kingdom Key rather than The Gazing Eye though, and to be 7 Sora's Kingdom Keys and 13 Mikey's Kingdom Keys.

@@Garmagic2yFhenrakh9 Yeah, one would think they'd be Kingdom Keys considering that's the type of key present in the X-Blade's design. Also, Xemnas said that they need hearts to forge them implying that the hearts of those slain are used for something, like forging those keys, as if they were types of keyblades of heart. But that would have messed up the story since some of the seekers' hearts need to return to their time in order for history to take its course. That would have also caused casualties to all of the guardians. I guess that's why the game director reduced the number of keys to thirteen. Either I am failing to grasp some of the finer details here or there are hints present in the finished product that the game director played with this idea and changed some details to make it work.

Yes and no. The old man body did take over Terra to become Terranort, however when he split himself into a Heartless/Nobody, the Terranort body IS what determined how they looked and sounded, but because it was still part Terra, when his Heartless and Nobody were both defeated, it was the old man body, his true original form, that came back, with Terranort still being active.

They were locking Kingdom Hearts to stop the purge. Xehanort can move through space-time so it would not matter locking him inside of Kingdom Hearts. He could just travel to another location in time. What they wanted was to make him seal inbetween space-time itself so he was stuck for good.

“to demoralise him” It’s a KH1 Sora situation-break his will so he can’t use the Keyblade (empowered by strength of heart, and he was feeling weak at that point). The return of his friends and reconciling with Saix probably helped him gain his confidence back enough to re-summon it.

I'm missing something. Master Xehanort saif "nine keys" were made from nine clashes between the 7 light keyblade wielders and the 13 dark former/current keyblade wielders. I'm trying to do a list in my head to who the nine are and come with 8. Not recalling names well: 1. card dealer, 2 the lighting daggers, 3 the flower scythe, 4 riku replica, 5 sharp shooter, 6 ventus, 7 terranort, 8 hammer rager. I'm assuming Xion was the 9th but not to the point of death it seems or even weaking her that she was not a party member as she was a darkness till shifting to light. Maybe Axel the 9th when his keyblade got destroyed it represented his loss and thus the 9th being a light losing. Bit confused.

Her memories were stored inside of Sora's heart and the replica absorbed them recreating Xion in her present form, but the past version of Xion retruned whence she came. I guess that's what counts? I don't know.
