Because, despite what Nomura would have you believe, the entire saga wasn't planned out from the start. Heartless were named before Nobodies existed as a concept, so got named for the pun, and then Nobodies had to be given a name that fit. Just wait until they introduce the Unversed, which are... manifestations of negative emotions? It's been a while...

The little character interactions and fleshing out of the Organization characters was actually the reason why I loved reading the KH manga titles! It kept out a lot of the repetitive missions of the game, but included all the quirky, fun, and heartbreaking emotions that make this story my favorite Kingdom Hearts story ever!

i was actually watching cybermans playthrough during the kingdom hearts break so seeing you mention them made me smile! from what i've seen of this game so far roxas's dialog reminds me a lot of the main character of Fragile dreams Farewell ruins of the moon, in fact the game itself carries a very similar sort of , hrm not quite melancholy but a similar feeling to that that fragile dreams has. And both games have gameplay that is not very liked but stories that are... i think i'm going to love this game.

It's "358 days" (the one year Sora was asleep minus one week) spread "over two" characters, Roxas and our new XIVth member. So it makes sense in a way, but it's a truly awful subtitle that deserved to get dunked on.

Axel's explanation about why the Sun sets red wouldn't make sense to someone genuinely unfamiliar as to why. So here's some clarification: When the Sun is near the horizon, it has to travel the longest through the atmosphere to reach you. The Earth's atmosphere is thick enough to absorb all of the shorter wavelengths at that distance, but not thick enough to absorb red and orange from that angle. Incidentally, sunsets on Mars are blue due to the much thinnner atmosphere. Also, that initial scene where Roxas meets Xion and Roxas is a bit taken aback...I'm sure it means something else, but I couldn't help but think Roxas is going, "Oh my god, it's a GIRL and she SMILED at me...Does that mean she likes me? What do I do What do I do What do I say Don't make her mad Don't screw this up Roxas"

Honestly they did the central tragedy as well as they could in the movie. Quinton Flynn is a seasoned professional, Jesse McCartney once again proves himself to be the second leading man of Kingdom Hearts, and Alyson Stoner just goes and does the absolute best with what she gets to work with. But where’s the fun? The banter? The vague discussions about life and the subtle antics of the other Organization members? The game is just a better way to experience the story. If only it wasn’t crunchier than a Cheeto.

I'm not sure in which game, if it was KH2 or this one, but in spanish he usually just says "lo captas?", which translates to "got it?" (as in, "did you understand?") Kinda feels more natural than "Got it memorized", somehow :P

It's a Japanese storytelling thing, hm. Japanese writers like to give each character a different thing to say at the end of each line or even sentence, desu. It's a lot more natural to a native Japanese because they really DO speak like this, I say. They don't really see it as a catchphrase, but something of a verbal punctuation mark to indicate they're done speaking, my child. But English doesn't use it, so it ends up sounding forced and unnatural, believe it!

While you're at it, watch everglow's kh timeline series, particularly the 358 portion. He recreated a lot of the gameplay within the kh2 engine, interspliced with HD cutscenes and the original ones. It's the definitive version for me.

I was interested to see what Dan would do with this one. What he's come up with might be the best way to experience this game passively, but I honestly still think it's doing the game a disservice. 358/2 Days is great not just for the story it tells, but for the way it uses its gameplay to (hopefully) make the player sympathize with its protagonist. It's a gamble on the part of the game's design that I could easily see not working for everyone, as it always is when action-oriented games try to aim for negative emotions, but for me it payed off in spades.
