My personal head canon for the inconsistency of the Musketeer world is that every character there is in disguise and running a long-con, not realizing that every other character is also there in disguise and running a con. Frankly, the way its included makes even less sense than the main plot of this game, and that is saying something. (Also, Carrie is very chatty this episode, and I appreciate it.)

Actually, I think the comic thing is a result of the framing device in the original animation. In it, a turtle guy accidentally knocks out someone who was supposed to read from the actual Three Musketeers book and gets propped up as the reader by mistake. But instead of reading from the book, he reads a comic of the story, which is of course the rest of the animation.

I love that the first ring of Disney worlds is different approaches to worlds we saw earlier in the series - plus La Cité des Cloches, which still feels familiar in its way - whereas the second ring of worlds visits points in King Mickey's past. It's a nice way of having a little thematic shift around the back half that leads into the more lore-focused final world.

The suicidal protag goes right back to the first game, with Sora sacrificing himself to free Kairi's heart. And most of the other suicides are alternate versions of Sora (occasionally Riku) - Aqua's an exception (note that Ven sacrificed himself in order to stop Van). It's debatable whether Master Xehanort counts as sacrificing himself - he expected to prolong his existence, not end it (nor make it significantly worse). When it comes to Namine, my interpretation is that she, rather like Xion, was unstable as she was - not even a real Nobody - so had to merge with Kairi in order to continue. It's possible she was just another victim of DiZ' and Xemnas' lies about the nature of Nobodies.

I have less of an issue with the multiple versions of the Disney trio (which is par for the course with this series) than why they made kids learn to pronounce French for ersatz Paris but not for ersatz Versailles. Bonus trivia! Athos, Porthos, and Aramus were called the Three Inseparables in the novels/play and Dartanian was sent to join the Guard rather than the Musketeers when he first joined the crew. So Mickey, Donald, and Goofy being Musketeers with Sora/Riku as an adendum is closer to the source material than adaptations tend to run.

Because muskets are a pain to use on day-to-day life. Good for battlefield; not so much for small scuffles since reload takes so long, and if done wrongly in haste whole thing could blow up into your face.

Much like Shadeius said - the "musketeers" of the book The Three Musketeers is referring to a branch of the French royal guard, which would have fought with muskets from horseback during battle and protected the king when outside his residences. But for day-to-day wear and court drama like the novel and its later adaptations focus on, a sword was worn for self-defense and dueling.

Wait, so this world ALSO has a Princess Minnie? And a Pete? Or are they the same Minnie and Pete, also having come to this world undercover? Are they all there in disguise, with separate long-con style plans going? How did those plans not come crashing down the moment they saw each other? I'm no expert, but I'd imagine it would be hard for a mouse to fake her way into being princess of France. No, they must be separate, because Mickey identifies himself as the King, and if Minnie were in disguise as a princess, surely he could just be her prince. So Musketeer country has its own Pete and Minnie, but not its own version of Mickey & co. Unless Mickey and co. replaced themselves in this world, and they're faking (or just exaggerating) their incompetence.

actually I wanted to know more about this world and found out some pretty interesting things apparently Walt Disney Pictures and Caravan Pictures, made a real life Three Musketeersmovie starring Charlie Sheen in 1993 which a year after got a comic book in 2004 Disney make this movie direct-to-dvd with if you got it in the original run you get a comic book with it. the Movie was later re-released on Blu-ray Disc in 2014, coinciding with the film's 10th anniversary.

A major part of it is because Pixar operates independently of Disney, for the most part. To get Pixar worlds and characters into Kingdom Hearts, the staff had to request permission separately. The person at Pixar they needed approval from just sat on it the entire time, and it took that person retiring and a new person being in charge to get that approval. (Disney has to go through the same process, so even if Tetsuya Nomura and the others got Disney's help, the results would've been the same.) Nomura had also gone on to say that he was not making Kingdom Hearts III until he could get Pixar approval. (The reasons become clear in the game itself.) That's why it took so long. Said new person was really enthusiastic about working with Square though and seems to be a Kingdom Hearts fan, so we can expect more collaborations in the future.
