It really is a shame Fantasia bombed. Personal experience time. Fantasia probably gets a lot of credit for making me a musician. One of my earliest memories is my parents putting in an old VHS when I was 4 or 5 years old. And the perfect and amazing visuals paired with a delectable choice of classical music unlocked something in my tiny, little brain that changed my life forever. Now if you will excuse me, I need to go find a DVD or download of Fantasia and go on a nostalgia trip for the rest of the day.

I feel like that idea of Fantasia as a show with a rotating lineup would make for a fantastic Disney parks attraction akin to a film festival spot - see a bit of traditional Disney animation that you can't get anywhere else, made different if you ever choose to come back, and with a sound system that Disney can control to specification. It's the kind of thing that you wouldn't have to re-dub for the Paris/Tokyo parks, either. Unfortunately, as I'm writing this out, I realize that plan would be even _less_ financially-viable considering its smaller potential audience, but it _is_ the kind of craft-focused thing I wish their parks featured more of.

You don't know how happy it makes me to see you enjoying this particular entry, Dan. Dream Drop gets a lot of hate from the KH fanbase, but it really is one of my personal favorites. I have legit opened my 3DS to the Fantastia world in this game and would just run around in it leveling to relax. Especially during nights when I was ill and couldn't sleep. It always seemed to lift my spirits. 💙

Dream Drop is my first Kingdom hearts game, but the Flow Motion makes it my personal favorite, I cannot imagine playing any other kingdom hearts game without it. I am saden that it seems that later entries greatly limit flow motion.

Dream Drop Distance, as a GAME, is the best of the side titles by a country mile. Dream Drop Distance, as a NARRATIVE, is classic Nomura winging and the major plot of the game, and what it sets up in KHIII, basically needlessly complicates a story that is ALREADY overwritten. However, like most KH games, as we are only really 3/4ths of the way through the game, we haven't really interacted with the story, and Disney worlds, especially Disney Worlds allowed to occur in any order, are NOT allowed to advance it in any way.

Set some newer animators and directors and whatnot on a side project that's intended for digital distribution (and/or a pre-movie short), one segment at a time. So while Riku gets All Nutcracker All the Time, Sora gets Beethoven's 6th Symphony - Pastoral? Seems Legit. What occurs to me is that Fantasia's main failing is that it's a film. Distribution is expensive, and the theater owners then have to sell tickets. What would work better for Fantasia is to make it a series of shorts (which is basically already is). Have each "episode" be a different piece of music with animation, and distribute it via that new Disney streaming service. One little series of shorts won't impact the service's costs, and you'd have to pay for the animation and music, which is a given if you're trying to do a wide release. The thing might just break even.

Fantasia was sooo weird conceptually to develop. Like, you started with music and the animators/artists and stuff had to make up something that would go with it instead of the other way around. But having music come first was such an interesting approach and making all these amazing classical scores more accesible by giving it visual form was just fantastic. This movie is one of the big reasons I got into studying music at a very young age and being a musician. That whole "symphonic theater" experience that never got to really be sounded amazing tho. It's so sad something so wonderful bombed so bad.

I went to fantasia 2000 when they did it in Belgium, with a live orchestra and sadly I don't remember much of it (since it was about 20 years ago). I do believe I enjoyed myself but not as much as I would enjoy it now

On the subject of Fantasia and the hope of new projects like it: --I saw both films growing up. Neither one held my interest as a kid. The _only_ segments I had any love for were "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "Donald's Ark". Other than that, I wasn't into them. --Now that I'm older and have found my musical ear, I wouldn't be opposed to watching them again on Disney+ when it comes out. I mean, classical isn't _really_ my thing, but it wouldn't hurt to try. --These films are definitely _not_ entertainment films; at least not completely. These are art house films in the fullest sense. If a company outside of Disney picked up the concept in today's world and very clearly advertised it as going along Walt Disney's original idea, it _might_ get more traction. And it's far more possible to accomplish such a thing with today's technology. I'm sure it would definitely find an audience; especially among the scholarly crowd.

Tchaikovsky is awesome! So Riku gets to play around in Tchaikovsky and Sora gets Beethoven. Cool! What they need to do with Fantasia is keep it in the parks. There is a theatre at California Adventure (I'm sure the other parks have them as well) where they could show it. Have an in house orchestra or a youth orchestra program for the music and use the shorts that got with them to test animation concepts and let new animation directors find their sea legs. It would be a risk, but it would fulfil Walt's vision to a degree, be a safe testing ground for new techniques and talent, and if they use a youth orchestra they can cushion some of the expense as an education opportunity (I'm sure their accountants and lawyers can find a way to turn it into a charitable opportunity or other tax break).

Yeah, I'm late to the party. Don't worry about it. Two observations. When making a dream eater, the colors are the same as Terra, Aqua and Ventus's wayfinders. I think that's intentional, but I'm still catching up on KH, so no spoilers please. Riku opens chests with the same animation as Aqua, and Sora with the same animation as Ventus. I am excited for KH3. So much nuance to these games to see unfold.

Birth by Sleep takes place 10 years in the past. Coded took place inside the data of a diary. Dream Drop Distance is about Sora and Riku taking the Mark of Mastery test. 358/2 was about Roxas's time with the organization. Chain of Memories was about Naminé, the other Kairi. Unchained X takes place in the far past during the age of Fairy Tales. 2.8 is about Aqua's time in the Dark Realm. Only the numbered entries focus on the main core group (no, not even this game, but that would be spoilers), besides, Sora already won Kairis' heart since quite literally the beginning of KH 1. He then sacrificed himself for her, then protected and rescued her other half (even though he doesn't remember it) and then took on and technically murdered the rest of the organization trying to get her back and crossed realms to get back to her. What the hell else do you people want Sora to do to prove that he cares for her?
