How strong a persons heartless is depend not on how strong the person is but on how much dearkness the person had in his heart. Sora had very little darkness in his heart so it was only enough to make a weak heartless.

SPOILERS what confuses me is the fact that he turned into a pureblood Heartless, as in a heartless born directly from darkness, instead of an Emblem heartless, which are born when darkness takes over peoples hearts. the only thing i can think of is that they hadn't come up with pureblood heartless at that point, but they still are unique in the fact they don't release hearts when killed, even in kh1. my theory was that Sora never actually turned into a Heartless, instead his will latched onto a nearby Shadow, possessed it, and went to Kairi, who had his heart. when his will and heart came back together, he regained his body, with the shadow getting trapped inside his heart. now whenever he uses drive forms, which draw from the power in his heart, the heartless sometimes breaks through and causes Sora to go Anti-Form.

Here's a 100% accurate and easy-to-understand summary of the Kingdom Hearts games after 1: KH2 reveals that when you die, turn into a zombie (a Heartless). And if you're lucky a ghost will come out too (a Nobody). It turns out Ansem's real name was Xehanort and Sora only succeeded in killing Xehanort's zombie. Now Sora's gotta take care of Xehanort's ghost, Xemnas. Also the real Ansem was a pretty cool guy. Xehanort just stole Ansem's name because they had a falling out in University and identity theft is the best form of revenge. Meanwhile there's an entire group of people who died and turned into a ghost (Organization XIII). They want to create an artificial Kingdom Hearts and hopefully come back to life. Sora kills them all due to a misunderstanding. When Sora turned into a zombie in KH1, he also produced a ghost (Roxas). That ghost wanted to become his own person but he can't because Sora is the star of the show. The ghost actually had some fun adventures with the legion of ghosts in KH 358/2 Days but he doesn't remember any of them because the game sucked ass. Somewhere in between KH1 and 2, there is a game called Chain of Memories where Sora and friends go to a mysterious castle that only exists to tease the legion of ghosts and more-or-less retell the plot of KH1 for Nintendo plebs. They would then go on to retell the plot of KH1 a second time with Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, another crappy game that should remain forgotten. Birth By Sleep is a prequel about three keyblade warriors and how they royally fucked up causing the events of KH1 to happen. Instead of fighting Heartless the enemy is called the Unversed. They're basically just the beta Heartless and they aren't really important. What is important is that Xehanort's an old man and Daft Punk is his catamite (Vanitus). Also throughout the journey you're meeting the ghosts when they were still humans. They all have stupid anagrams for names and it's obvious that Nomura wasn't thinking far ahead when he named the ghosts. Anyway, there's a big dumb guy named Terra who wants to become STONK and he gets rused by Xehanort into giving into the Darkness. Xehanort possesses Terra's body to become young again forcing Terra's spirit (not his ghost) to fuck off into a pile of armor. Xehanort, with his new young body then proceeds to enroll in a college where he meets Ansem. Aqua is the obligatory girl who does nothing of particular importance other than get stuck in a(the?) world of darkness. Ventus is a boring blank-slate character who only exists to do the fusion dance with Vanitas and form Sora. Long story short, Ventus is Roxas and Vanitas is Sora. Anyone who says otherwise is a pedant. Dream Drop Distance takes place after KH2, where Sora and Riku are training to become official Keyblade Warriors. The training takes place INSIDE YOUR MIIIIIND where Sora learns Xehanort is building a clone army using the members of the legion of ghosts that he didn't kill hard enough. Also it's revealed that if you kill a ghost and its zombie, the human will come back to life. YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHO THEY HAVE TO KILL AGAIN. In the end, Sora doesn't become a Keyblade Warrior, which shouldn't really matter because he already has a Keyblade. One ghost in particular died so hard that he's going to get a keyblade as an apology gift (Axel/Lea). Also in an attempt to keep her relevant to the story, Kairi's getting a Keyblade. I think Aqua's still lost in that world of darkness somewhere but if she gets out she'll likely get a second Keyblade. So KH3 should be a straightforward story about Sora and the Keyblade Warriors killing Xehanort so hard that he doesn't come back. But as long as Nomura's conducting this train, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

+KorianBossMonster The story is not complicated, but it gets out of control with their jargons and plot points. That is a bad things, specially when your series is scattered throughout most handhekd consoles, instead of keeping them to same system. However, I really think people extrapolate this point. As an avarage comic reader, I can assure that, as soon as you invest the time to learning the jargons, the story gets to be a simple one, but with an artificial layer of complexity, that is what makes people so reluctant in actually getting into it. The entry point in this series is really hard to find due to people dual-wielding heats, time traveling clones and shit like that, but the core is not as bad as some make it out to be. It's still the same, in the end. Light vs. Darkness, and the struggles of balancing them.

I actually enjoyed the Atlantica level, it is actually my favorite level from the first game. The only thing that comes close is the final level that makes things so surreal. I like Atlantica best because I loved the swimming, it is in the second game where I absolutely despise the Atlantica level. Only one area you could swim in and everything was a giant Quicktime of it. It pissed me off to no end that I had to sit through all of that just so I could get the orichalcum for the Ultima keyblade.

KH1 is still my favorite. Its combat is a little clunky but it feels more effective when hitting an enemy, its not as button mashy as 2. KH2s level design is so bad in my opinion, its so flat and boring, there's nothing to do. It lacks exploration, platforming, and the overall charm of the original level design. Its got smoother controls and combat but it sacrifices everything else. The story becomes more interesting but at the same time doesn't work as well with all its plot threads and filler. Literally every Disney world in Kh2 except for Beasts Castle and Space Paranoids is filler. I still enjoy KH2FM because I'm a fan of the series but I think its the most overrated game in the series overall.

I completely disagree. The sequels are flat, empty, and shallow. Every world was filler so playing through them lacks any motivation or charm. I'm confident you haven't played KH1 in a long time considering you labeling the exploration in that game as fetch quests and backtracking which is much more applyable to KH2.

KH1 had simple charming puzzles, new areas unlocked with new abilities, interactive useful NPC's, etc. 2 lacks any of that. I never thought the platforming in 1 was shit, I've never seen a good argument against it. Its clunky but so was everygame at the time. it was fixed in the HD re-release.

Wonderland introduced the idea of the princesses of heart, meddling in world affairs, and the keyhole and hinted at someone stealing the princess. Olympus Coliseum introduced us to the concept of a hero being pure of heart and Hades involvement with Maleficent. Agrabah confirmed Jasmin as one and showed Jafar as working with Maleficent. Etc, etc. each world added new context to the universe and furthered the plot and character development. Sora was actually somewhat intelligent in the first game. In 2 he's reduced to a wide eyed idiot who takes exposition dumps for toddlers to understand simple concepts. KH2 holds your hand, straightforward does not always equal good. Instead of working on the platforming and puzzles, they completely removed them which makes the worlds uninteresting to revisit.

There were other PS2 games with much better platforming than Kingdom Hearts 1 and they controlled far smoother as well (platforming wise). PS2 exclusives like Jak and Daxter, the Ratchet and Clank games, Sly Cooper, Crash Twinsanity, Pac Man World 2, and just so much others controlled far better and had better platforming than KH1.

+AntDude the reason why it's called a Gummi ship is because it's made up of gummi blocks. Gummi blocks are abstract, elastic materials in the KH series that combine with one another very easily. These blocks actually originate from the atmosphere of each world. Each world supposedly has a barrier on the outside of it, making travel to and from it impossible. But when this barrier gets comprimised (usually by dark forces and what not) the broken barrier will manifest itself as falling gummi blocks. Now if you're having trouble with party members dying on you, just try to heal them. It sounds like a pain in the ass, but hear me out. As someone who has played this game a lot, party members can be quite beneficial to you if you're willing to support them during battle. If you keep them alive, they can heal you back, block attacks for you, serve as a distraction, inflict damage on the enemy, etc.Usually healing Donald first is good because he can use cure to revive the other party member.

Greetings AntDude! I wanted to drop by and say that you did a very good analysis of the first Kingdom Hearts game. I loved how you threw this retrospective together; plus, you had some pretty dang funny moments thrown in. I'm not to picky about your review of the worlds either, and your opinions of this game were pretty fair all around both in terms of story and gameplay overview. However one thing I wanted to mention is how you and others address the series as confusing with it story. One thing I will agree on is that with is how the order the games were released happened to cause a whole lot of the general confusion because we got a prequel and games off to the side that were meant to provide addition context to what happens on the console games (games one and two), but most were released after the second game as you know, so not the best way of handing it as not everyone will see all the games. However it's a mistake to call any of the side games _spin-offs_ as they are very much _not_ spin-offs but rather vital games that make sense of the plot of Kingdom Hearts as a whole and it's by this stage people get awfully confused because they will start missing out on the information laid out there. Here's the chronological order the games are in: Kingdom Hearts χ [chi] Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Kingdom Hearts Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days / Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (Alongside each other) Kingdom Hearts II Kingdom Hearts coded Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance It's because people don't play one game that things start to become extremely confusing, but playing or watching all of the games in full makes sense of the story, even Dream Drop Distance attempted to recap everything that's happened in the story thus far for us in the lead up to Kingdom Hearts III. It's not without its flaws certainly, but I think Kingdom Hearts does have a great story to tell even with so much to take in. If you do more coverages of these games, I urge you to keep this information in mind as going by release dates for this series and having to make sense of everything going on is going to be really challenging, but I would really be glad to see you talk about Kingdom Hearts again when it's appropriate for you this year. so a few corrections with the Kingdom hearts final mix stuff: - "Another Side, Another Story" was present in original international release of Kingdom Hearts, unlockable if you get every dalmation puppy (all 33 chests throughout the game), beat the Hades Cup tournament in Olympus colosseum seal all keyholes in the game (one of which requires you to go back to Olympus Colosseum to get the yellow Trinity and shove that pedistal that you told phil was "way too heavy"). Final mix made it so you don't need to beat the Hades cup to get the "AS,AS" ending, but you need to do that to get, "Deep Dive", which is the only new ending to final mix, which essentially extended "AS,AS" to tease Organization 13, and not just "Blonde haired Kid" (or BHK; later revealed to be Roxas) -when you showed the new keyblades added with final mix, you showed Diamond Dust and the Ultima Weapon (this was likely a mistake in editing). Ultima Weapon was present in the original game (it was locked behind completing every sythesis and then crafting the weapon itself); what should have been shown was the 'One Winged Angel" keyblade (which had long reach, decent but not amazing damage but VERY high critical damage, which you get for beating sephiroth, an actual prize for beating him other than bragging rights... only you probably already have UW at that point, so it won't be used.
