What a cross over! When it first came out, Disney AND Squaresoft? And it all happened because of a literal elevator pitch. Now it's been some time so I'm re-completing the game in the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix PS4 version. This means some added collectibles, PS4 trophies, and updated audio and visuals. And after all this time, I can't believe I get to say Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming out!! I've completed so many of these games, and at times they seem endless. But it's time to start at the beginning, to the game that started it all and created lifelong fans.

Truefax. I'm replaying KH2 right now, and I'm putting off Atlantica for AS LONG AS FEASIBLY POSSIBLE, and planning to skip all the cutscenes. I'm trying to 100% the game so I HAVE to do it, but... ugh, it's like tearing off a bandaid.

I understand it's pretty crazy but if you think about is ssbu is way more diverse than say Winnie the Poo and sepharoth. For the record, most of the KH games aren't really that convoluted. Yes, they're dense and complicated, but if you're paying just a BIT of attention, everything does get explained in time. The only exception, I'll admit, is Dream Drop Distance, which DOES get to the point of being legit confusing. I still only have about an 85% idea of what the villain's plan actually is. Frickin' time travel.

Most of the explanation of the game happens in a phone game so I mean if you don’t play union X you basically have zero clue on anything happening in kh4 and miss most of what happens during kh3. Miss some plot points in kh2 and 1.

KH1 is way, way harder to go back to if your entry into the series was KH2, the quality of life improvements 2 has are SO good. It's a real Mass Effect 1 to Mass Effect 2 sort of conversion. So I guess you really have to love it.

I will say this: despite how complex the story got and the different game elements added and discarded, Kingdom Hearts will forever be my favorite video game series of all time. Even for a kid growing up in the Spectrum, I was engaged with everything going on due to my love with Disney, and I related to Sora’s journey to find his friends, as well as the others that showed up later on. I was excited to see you recomplete this, and it fills me with joy that you love it as much as I do based on your words. I can’t wait to see the New Game Plus episode on KH2FM, and maybe you should suggest that to Beard Bros! P.S. A Mary Poppins world would be pretty neat to even just explore. I think there’s potential there!

Yeah, and I still got my copies of KH1 and 2 to the PS2 but I got the KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX just because of KH3 is coming out and that I am missing some games in the series since I didn't have the money to afford every game when I was a kid. Super happy to be able to play games that I never got to play as a kid now that I am a grown up!

@@TheRezro I have played a part of BBS but because of my save file keeps getting corrupted on my PSP I got tired of starting it over again all the time and the battery on my PSP is not the best since I have to keep on charging it. I got my PSP second hand so it was old when I got it. So when I finally fund out that they had released KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX for the PS4 I saved up money for the game and got my PS4 by selling my bike. The biggest reason I didn't have the money for the game when it came out and the PS4 was that at the time I was saving money for a trip to Japan that I did last year in May 2018! I so want to go to Japan again so Tales of Vesperia define edition that was released 11 January this year and KH3 will probably be the only games I will be getting this year since I need to save money again if I want to do another trip to Japan. Not being rich make it not easy to be a gamer but saving your money and then finally being able to afford what you want then the reward is totally worth it!

Man, oh man. If you think Mary Poppins would be good, may I point you in the direction of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, its lesser-known cousin? The Isle of Naboombu would be pretty good, it’s done the same way as Mary Poppins’ animated world, Ms. Price could actually kick someone’s behind and it would be great for avoiding stuff like fighting Nazis with sentient suits of armor and jokes about an unexploded bomb in someone’s yard during the Blitz. I strongly dislike the synth requirement changes in Final Mix. Yes the Ultima Weapon is slightly more powerful but grinding on the randomly-spawning gimmick enemies with the extra-stingy synth item drop-rates is *significantly* more tedious and drawn-out than it was in the PS2 original.

@linkin We should expect the HD remixes to be ported to the XBox in the future though. Considering how much they matter to understanding KH3, it’s inevitable to happen one day. Nomura even said so himself that he would consider porting KH3 to the Nintendo Switch once it’s already out on the planned systems. The same could be said for HD remixes getting ported to Xbox as well as the Switch.

Man I remember when KH1 came out, when I learned the premise I was like “Disney characters, Disney worlds... nah I’ll pass”. About 6 months after it came out a friend convinced me to give it a try, it immediately became one of my favorite games and then series. I don’t know why but this series has remained in my top 5 and I’ve loved every game. Especially BBS, I LOVED that game. I remember misplacing my PSP and losing my mind cause I was going on vacation, I said screw it and bought a new one and happily started from scratch in BBS..... It’s also the only game(s) besides FFX where I’ve rebought for both the PS3 and PS4 when the collections were released. Yes I happily handed over my money for the same game on a newer system even though I still have my PS3. I just wanted to support it.

Was wondering if someone would point this out. As a completion condition it certainly makes a big difference.. That was rough beating I think it was hollow bastion to traverse town without taking a single hit.. And there were giant walls of blocks that you needed a customised gummi ship just to fit passed (and had to develop some wonky collision detection 'evasion' skills).. I remember some tricky ones where you couldn't shoot and had to get a score of 0 or the one where ya basically had to destroy every object to get the score high enough. And something abuot a course that gets interrupted by montro even when attempting the mission challenge.. ugh XD I kind of don't mind that it's not a requirement on PS4 but perhaps I'm a little bit bitter and slightly resent gummis after my PS3 playthrough. haha

Watching this while working on my own platnum playthrough of the original game. (I'm not doing it for bragging rights I'm doing it for my own emotional attachment to the series) My older brother (may he rest in peace) He loves the original 2 games (he passed away in 2010) I finally had the chance to beat the original 2 and finish the rest of the series myself last year and this year and I had so much fun experiencing it. Also it made me feel closer to him. Going for this platnum on the original (and maybe KH2) feels like I'm honoring a series we both enjoyed at some point. It feels like a labor of love for the series despite me questioning my sanity a bit with the secret bosses and the ultima wepon grinding

I’ve been plaything through this recently to scratch the Nomura itch before FF7 Rebirth comes out in a couple months, and dang what a banger. I love KH 1 and 2 so much. I played all the way through 3 but man, imo, it’s totally missing the soul that the first few installments had. The combat is great but none of the characters feel right to me and the story is a total mess. Not to mention all of the FF characters’ stories are left cliff hanging lol. I might play 4 if it looks cool when it comes out but I’m not too excited for it

Kingdom Hearts has become a special series to me. At first, I was one of the skeptics. I read about the game and saw pictures and didn’t get it. Mixing Final Fantasy and Disney? What could they be thinking?! But the more I looked into it and the closer the first game’s release came, I became hyped at the idea. I love the characters and story, be it weird and nonsensical at times. And this is also a game my brother and I played together and bonded over. We can still chat about the original and all our times playing it for hours. I’m getting all nostalgic over here, going to have to replay these games again in the near future. Also, while we’re talking live action movies for Sora to interact with, how about Bedknobs and Broomsticks? It has magical elements, unique locations, and I think we may top the strange-ometer having Sora, Donald and Goofy taking on nazis. :P

Hey Jirard, have you ever played skies of Arcadia? Amazing jrpg where you get to play as a sky pirate. You can recruit you crew, have flying ship battles, and best of all as far as I know has zero achievements. But dont let that fool you theres still a bunch to do in the game. But it's one of my top 3 favorite games of all time.

Now, I know a lot of KH fans disliked the game because of the card system and I totally understand that, but once you understand the system and has the heart for card games (see what I did there?), then the game can be fun. Especially when the story is getting you hooked. I also feel even more satisfied in every boss battles I win. I have to admit, I died a lot, but that's because I didn't make a good enough card combination around my playthrough. Once I beat the game, I just fell asleep...

@@saxor96 I think if the entire game played the way rikus half did, it would be a much better game, soras play through requires a ton of investment in minmaxing your deck and card management, and basically setting up macros on a controller as it is (with the shortcuts) its incredibly rewarding if you get that in to it, but if you just want to play, rikus story integrates the card dynamic in a much more palatable way in my opinion

When I first heard of KH I said "Nope, sounds dumb", then a friend pestered me into trying it... There began my journey... This was the same friend that got me to try FFX back in the day which started my journey into and love of the FF series, I learned to trust his suggestions lol.

I'm proud to say I completed the original Kingdom Hearts back in '02! The Final Mix version was not available in the US for some time after that, so I didn't get to fight Hooded Figure Xemnas. But all four of the other secret bosses I managed to take down one at a time. I'll never forget being so shocked at seeing Sephiroth and dying from a single sword slash. 100% completion got me the secret ending. I don't know how many times I went back to beat Ansem just so I could watch and pick apart that teaser. Ah, the pre-KZbin days. I loved traveling around the map and not knowing what world or cast of characters would show up next. In contrast, all of KH3's worlds ended up revealed in trailers, so there was no longer any surprise when you actually got to play the game. I think the game that best captured the wonder of the original was Birth by Sleep. I've enjoyed most of the games (didn't like Dream Drop Distance all that much), but nothing has captured the wonder and excitement of the original. Lightning in a bottle.

Here's the thing: most people HAVEN'T played them all, and most people, while they might enjoy KH, aren't rabid enough fans that they consume literally every piece of media associated with it. I remember back when KH2 first came out. I enjoyed the first game and looked forward to 2. When I first started it up, I was completely lost, and wondered what the hell happened in between. It was only then that I discovered the existence of Chain of Memories, a game I had never heard of at the time and virtually no one actually played. Only after a deep dive into a KH wiki did I more or less understand what on earth was going on. This confusion, btw, was from missing a single game. Now imagine what it's like when someone misses 358/2, Birth by Sleep, Re:Coded, Dream Drop Distance, etc. Most normal folk aren't going to invest their time, energy, and money into these games, and stick to the main numbered titles. Hence the confusion.

I love everything about this game, it is so fun to traverse the different worlds and get upgrades and stuff. but the boss fights. Oh man. I don’t know if I accidentally had the difficulty set too high but it took me 2+ hours to beat the trick master. THE TRICK MASTER!!! And then when I went to olympus it was all fine and good until Cerebus showed up! Ahhhh.

I played this game for the first time not to long ago, and got most of the trophies on my first run, and then did a speed run, but accidentally changed my armor so I missed that trophy, and did not really wanna do any more runs. Maybe in the future I’ll go at it again

5:48 those choices are actually very important depending on your playstyle. It makes you learn certain abilities later or earlier on, it changes your stats, item slots etc. If you want the guard ability as early as possible pick the shield.

i really love kingdom hearts 1 as it always rewards the players for doing things finding secrets and collecting. Even when i do the game on it's true hardest setting level 1 mode i always feel the combat is somewhat fair and engaging and just overall fun even when i'm dieing 4 hours to a hard boss cause i'm not that very good. in the end i appreciate this 1 more than 2 i hate 2 the more i play it but 1 will always be fine in my book. ty for the video.
