Have you ever read the backstory of Vanitas? Its quite sad, and hes as much a victim of Xehanort as everyone else. He was a dark being who constantly felt the light that Ventus' heart poured into him (as they were one and the same) and he craved the light to be his salvation from his pain and suffering. Then Xehanort came and told him the ONLY WAY to end his pain was to become the X-Blade.

I really like the idea of vanitas being in sora..because, if sora is the child of destiny then it sort of puts in prospective what sora is meant to do. Not destroy darkness. But understand it and co exist with it. Plus sterlizia is in Kh4 meaning vanitas and her are once again in the same place. Heck it also adds drama potential with Kh5 with Larium

Vanitas is the only one of the 13 darknesses so far that has their own body now i think, correct me if I'm wrong. And Vanitas is growing a heart, he's gaining emotions and healing. Vanitas will be their own person soon, and hopefully be an anti-hero.

Something that always rubbed me up the wrong way was the community's explanation of Venitas looking like Sora. Perhaps it's not farfetched to suggest that these "Ancient darknesses" have an "Ancient Light" counterpart. There has always been something very special about Sora, like how he was able to invite others into his heart and by what he was able to do to save Ventus. Perhaps Sora is unknowingly (obviously) an Ancient Light. I've even contemplated that the Master of Masters is also a Ancient Light, pointing at when he reveals his name to Xehanort the audio is cut and Light is showing.... And Xehanort is playing this 4D chess game to fit MoM's plan, not actually being evil. Might mean that the Ancient Lights all have an Ancient Darkness, aligning with what Venitas says about being the shadow Sora casts.

I wouldn't be surprised if Vanitas is a recurring character in the future, whether or not we see him in quadratum, or if he ever ended up there during monsters inc. Especially when we consider how much of a role Ventus is going to play, plus lauriam and elrena, it's likely Vanitas will follow. Honestly what I want to know is where Brain ended up.

So, on the point of Repliku knowing what happened to maleficent-Repliku was created from Riku’s memories after the end of KHI. It’s either the first or second fight he and Sora have in CoM, but he mentions telling Sora to take care of Kairi at the end of KHI. So he would know about that. Everything you said about Vanitas displaying emotions of anger, sadness, or resignation at the end are spot on, and I think Nomura is doing the exact same thing he did when he first introduced Nobodies: just introduced the tiniest bit of doubt that he is not a one dimensional villain, and that he might even curse his fate or he feels potentially trapped in his role as ‘darkness’ after being part of Ventus and to an extent, Sora. I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS. Okay, you've gotta analyze one of the chess scenes. There's literally two Vanitas chess pieces in one of these scenes, and Sora's chess piece takes over the Vanitas chess piece that's in the middle of the board, which Eraqus sets down in the light, while the other Vanitas chess piece stays on the dark side with the rest of the Real Orginazation pieces. It shows BOTH pieces in frame at one point. I also definitely believe Vanitas transfered over to Sora's heart after Sora visited Ven's heart station in the re:mind dlc, and that Vanitas witnessed the conversation between the time traveling Vanitas, Ventus and Sora and MAYBE that alone could help him decide his own fate instead of being used and thrown around like a puppet for people like Xehanort. He doesn't need to just be darkness. Yeah, he may literally BE darkness, but you can tell he seems frustrated with himself for even having to even say that in front of Sora and Ven. I truly believe Vanitas is with Sora in Quadratum. The fact that literally NO ONE talks about this drives me crazy. These little details are totally overlooked

@@VemercitwaI just rewatched it thanks! Crazy I never noticed that before 😮 I seen there is a moment when there is 2 Aqua pieces and 2 Seeker of Darkness pieces. If I don't find anyone else analyzing this scene, I'll work on doing one myself If I can manage to dissect anything. Yup! I really hope Vanitas is with Sora in Quadratum it could be like his own Dark Jiminy Cricket 😆 Yes I do believe even if you are the embodiment of Dark does not mean evil. Just like Light doesn't always equal good, just look at Eraqus' actions in BBS. Honestly KH3 I believe has so many hidden and little details in it. Such an underappreciated game and I believe with time and revolations from new games will show how well done KH3 was. I wanna make a KH3 appreciation video sometime it will just take a lot of preparation.

I was thinking along the lines of that too, only I wasn't quite sure what happened during the Ven's heart station moment in the dlc. Sora goes, "Vanitas?" --No answer afterwards, darkness consumes him, we fight the Inferno boss, and move on as if that never happened. Which is super suspicious knowing how Nomura does things. If Vanitas IS with Sora in Quadratum, I wonder: What is his role? Is he stuck with Sora or can he seperate? Is it Sora or is it Vanitas who is reponsible for the heartless appearing in Quadratum (A world that has no Light or Dark)? And will that play into the Toy Box beta image of Sora with the blue and yellow eyes???

1:00 I noticed this too about Vanitas' quote - literally a few hours before finding this video! I remember watching this scene years ago, but I had overlooked it as Vanitas being philosophical/metaphorical in explaining his choices. Only after I recently re-watched it did it hit me that it might actually be a gigantic hint that Vanitas' story isn't over - that he has a high chance of reappearing in a future game. That maybe he was literally telling Sora and Ventus to their faces that his future-self(the Vanitas of their time) was still around, most likely lingering within either one of them. Otherwise, you'd think that he would be upset that he had lost - that he was going to be sent back to the past where he was most likely destroyed in Ventus' act of sacrifice to destroy them both in their clash - that all of his efforts & suffering would have been for nothing. But instead he seemed fine with their conclusion as he finally disappeared - and the most likely reason for that is because he knows he'll be okay, either from simply seeing or sensing his future self - or perhaps even having a conversation with him.

Really cool breakdown of Vanitas! I'm only at the part where you mention Sora could be the true dandelion, and that's a really interesting idea that I've never considered. I think Strelitzia so far seems like more likely to be it, but it being Sora would be a really cool twist! Since the KHUX ending introduced hearts melting into another during death, that could be an explanation for Sora's "new-born heart". One route they could go is making Sora be the Player from KHUX and Missing Link in his past lives. It would give the title of "Birth by Sleep" another meaning. But if Sora is Player, it probably means that he's not the true dandelion because Player shows up in early Scala.

I wonder if a Darkness lives inside Xehanort's heart and all the ancient darknesses are connected, much like how the guardians of light are connected to Sora. It would explain Riku's stance since he had Xehanort's heart in him

The Dark Form suit Riku and Vanitas wear different versions of is told to be what happens when someone gives their heart to darkness but has yet to lose their body. Vanitas's suit is darker because Vanitas is one of The 13 Ancient Darknesses, where as Riku's had the crest because he was possessed by a Heartless(Ansem). Anyone who delves into darkness to that extent/becomes possessed by Heartless would get a similar suit, possibly with a different color scheme.

15:26 THANK YOU! FINALLY someone else who understands and supports this theory! I have maintained, since this scene, the revelation of the Ancient Darkness, and the Darkness that helped Malifecent return to the current timeline during Union Cross, that the Riku Replica in OrgXIII's ranks is a host of this specific darkness. Even crazier, every KH community I'm a part of has told me that I'm reaching, overthinking things, or that there's no evidence for this theory. I'm so glad to finally find someone else who subscribes to this theory!

@@UnlikeMike0 I don’t think we are though! I feel like this is the ONLY reasonable interpretation of the Riku Replica and Maleficent cutscene. Repliku has no reason to “remember” Maleficent being consumed by darkness; there’s no reason Pete shouldn’t recognize Repliku at face value for Riku (aka an antagonistic force) rather than assuming him “friend”; there’s no reason for Maleficent to not be able to say from “when” she knew him-unless this entity ISN’T what he appears to be at face value.

Rage form/Anti form being due to vanitus in sora somehow would be PERFECT ngl cuz we do still kinda don't have a straight answer to why that's a thing and since in kh3 it was actively part of the story at the end when fighting Xehanort where it's forced out of sora during that fight which implies it has some kind narrative or importance otherwise aside it being bad ass why was it there If anything I refuse to believe it ISNT Vanitus dare I say due to his heart being connected to ven perhaps he has a link to sora because of that which would be AMAZING 👏 I think him looking like sora is not the only connection he has with sora It only makes sense to me

the box having to do with Vanitas actually has some weight behind it. we know MoM hates darkness more than anything, murderously so, and considering he would know that Vanitas took a ride on Ven into the future, there could very well be a vessel to trap Vanitas (body or otherwise) in the box so that MoM could kill him. Dark Road really has hammered in this new-ish theme that Darkness and Light do not necessarily correlate with Evil and Good, respectively. we should assume moral neutrality until actions prove otherwise, regardless of light/darkness affinity.

I think that is actually The Master of Masters's deception. You See, The Master has Seen Riku and knows he became Immune to Darkness from the very Beginning. But He needs to set up Riku's Existence. So, he needs to make Luxu think that is what he thinks, to set the Script.

The one thing about brain being a virus in kh2, there is a scene in related to the tron world, outside of the world there was a scene with someone at the bottom of the platform hard to tell who it is, what if brain manifested himself that way? Like that weird 3d printing huge room outside of tron world.

I didn't read Vanitas being upset about being Darkness. Maybe a bit confused as to why it was bothering his "brothers" so much, but not upset. Granted I have always thought that Vanitas sounded weird in that scene almost like the voice actor voice was tired for that scene or he was starting to get a sore throat. I also kind of find it interesting that Vanitas doesn't seem to think of Sora as his "brother" until this scene. He had seen Sora before in DDD so it isn't just not being able to see Sora's face because of Monster's Inc world. Yet before the scene in the Graveyard Vanitas seems to dismiss Sora as unimportant or even in the way. Either he learns something in Quadratum or he always views Sora as a brother but instead of a twin like he view Ventus he views Sora more like the younger brother who is getting in the way. I'm not sure that I agree with the idea that Vanitas is within Sora. Do I think that there is a Darkness within him, yes. However I have always thought it was more along the lines of a new Darkness just like Sora is a New Heart.(choosing not to look at UX ending where Chirithy literally uses the same term New Heart to describe heart melting and rebirth) I think that Sora's darkness being his own just the same way his light is his own fits with his character and themes better. Was Vanitas within Sora while Ventus was? Maybe, but if so I think he left when Ventus did, I also think that the Lab people would have said something after all they have all of Sora'a heart data and had for a while. Though I do agree that the Riku in Big Hero Six was more likely to be a Darkness then Replica Riku. I also think that Darkness has been wondering around in Riku's form for a very long time. In Recoded we see Riku leave the Destiny Islands after their fall to darkness Twice. It's really weird and the only way I have been able to make sense of it is if one of the Riku's recorded was a Darkness taking his form. I have also wondered if part of the reason Kairi doesn't seem to trust Riku is because she has seen this Darkness using Riku's form to do weird things. I also think that Xehanort had a Darkness within him though I am not sure when he got it. And said Darkness was why Ansem Seeker of Darkness was able to keep such a big sense of Will. After all the Formless Darknesses are basically Dark Wills if I have understood UX correctly. That Darkness would have stayed with Riku even after the Heartless it was inhabiting was destroyed, and was either destroyed or forced to flee at the end of KH2, as we haven't seen it bother Riku since Riku got his form back. As for the future of Vanitas. I am really hoping we get to see more of him he is my favorite of the antagonist(not sure if he is really a villain not the way I am almost completely sure MoM is). That said I think it is far more likely that we will see him in Ventus' story rather then Sora's. Vanitas seems to care a lot more about Ventus then he does Sora. So it honestly makes a lot more sense for him to be bothering his Twin. Who last we saw was in the Realm of Darkness with Aqua and Terra. The perfect place for Vanitas to be able to mess with his Light. After that it is really a matter of where you think Ventus' story is going. This is an idea not a theory I really have no proof to hint that this will actually happen. One of the ideas that I have been playing with for what KH4 might be about is the idea that Reality and Unreality might have completely different timelines. What do I mean by that? That when a person jumps from one reality to another they can enter the other at any point in time, likely so long as it is after any point in time that person had been in that realities timeline before. Examples- Elrena uses an Ark in the age of Fairytales, she ends up in Unreality at an unknown point in time, she goes back to Reality long after the age of fairytales. Because she only ever traveled through space instead of time travel she keeps her body. She is unable to time travel into the time period between the time she left and the time she came back. If she where to travel back to Unreality it would have to be after the point in time she was originally there, nor could she ever go into the time between her two visits. Why am I talking about this? One of the ideas I have thought would be cool is if KH4 is about Sora/yozora meeting characters who we think have gone into unreality and back. Sora/yozora helping them go back but being unable to go back with them because it would be in Sora's own past and he can not use a door that isn't after the point that he disappeared. People as waypoints in the timeline through use of the power of waking would likely be the safest way to get to the time that one actually wants to be in. So characters like Elrena, Lauriam, Ventus, Baby Kairi, Vanitas, Teen Xehanort, Xehanort's mom, and the Master of Masters could all show in KH4 and Sora/yozora could help them get to reality again. However they would all be past versions of these characters rather then the versions we know about in the present story of Reality. Somehow this use to be about Vanitas but I have forgotten where I was going with it...sorry.

it might help if someone told you that vanitas and sora are both voiced by the same person, and that it was a deliberate casting choice, because it sounds like you might not have known. (not everyone realizes or knows this because HJO is actually a very good voice actor and singer)

@@Rikarikun I did know that, I just don't know how to spell his name and think he does an amazing job at making the characters feel very different. One could never mistake a line of Sora's for one of Vanitas', nor Ventus for Roxas. I choose not to pay that close attention to voice actors, or actor actors. If I recognize then I recognize but mostly I just love the finished product and the characters for themselves. (that doesn't stop the fact that Vanitas sounds a bit off, during the line "I'm the piece that was taken away and your the piece he needed to be made whole again" which is the main line where I say the voice actor sounded tired or off, maybe over acted like trying so hard to get Vanitas' voice that he over jumped it a little) Also yes the voice actor for Sora and Vanitas is amazing and I am sad that KH2 didn't allow him to truly show off his wonderful singing voice. I'm a little confused about what this was meant to clear up. If it is my disagreeing with Vanitas being upset about being just darkness. I still disagree. He doesn't sound upset, he sounds set in his ways, and like he knows something about all three's relationship together that the other two aren't getting even though he thinks it should be very obvious. That said I do believe that either read could be true and that both are valid reads of the scene at this moment in time. However character motivation often only becomes clear with time.

@@hillaryslack2884 oh no there's just a good number of folks that don't know for varying reasons (he did a REALLY good job with vanitas, enough so that some people might miss that if they're not sharp enough) and there was a part of your initial post that was vague enough with it's reasoning to make me think you didn't, that's all. That being said the atlantica segments where he sang were enough to convince me that he could sing great hahaha. That being said I do think to this day that it's funny that roxas and ventus are voiced by the same guy, who was best known for being a pop singer up till KH2, hahaha.

People seem to not realize everyone was supposed to die in KH3. Thats the end of the book. Sora broke a time loop and wether you want to admit it or not, the union x makes ALL of KH a timey wimey mess. Without getting into too much detail I think Ven is MoM and it could be argued that Venitas literally is Sora, the Sora that failed and saved no one. I believe this would send an emotional sora to pure darkness He would of returned with the other darknesses tricked a pure Ven into absorbing him, and travelled to the future providing a wrench they could pull to break the loop.

Vanitas is created, I believe, when the Resonance of Riku's Light (the Kingdom Key) and Sora's Heart refract that Light through Ventus's Light into the Shadow of the Ancient Darkness. So, he is the Light of the Sun inverted.

What if vanitus becomes a guardian of darkness💀, think about it, the darkness equivalent of sora, seeing as roxas was the light of the nobodies, he could be the light in the dark (no riku puns) And not to mention he has a keyblade still, you never know (no matter how tin foily this is)

Xion 30:34 You forgot One. It is forgot because it is shown instead of Told. As Xion evolved, she gets Memories of Riku. check the Snarl of Memories cutscene. It is literally the cutscene before Riku fight Zexion That Xion is dreaming. Only Riku could have this Memory, and Xion turns into Riku in the middle of it.

@@Fragmentsinfractals488 Xion doesn’t “get” the memories of Riku. In the cutscene in question (Snarl of Memories) she’s experiencing Riku’s memories because of their physical proximity to each other. This was confirmed by Nomura in one of his interviews.

@@Sev_Henry If Xion is supposed to became Sora, why would she "experience Riku's Memories"? It is because of Riku's Kingdom Key. Keyblades are extensions of the Heart (The Light of Riku's Heart, confirmed by Nomura is where the Kingdom Key comes from) is wielded by Sora and Xion. It is a part of Sora as he actually is. So, to be Sora, she has to become Sora as Riku perceives him.

The way the story is set up seems like Ventus and Sora are intrinsically tied to the plot. The idea of Vanitas taking on the form of an adult Sora when adult Sora didn't exist yet always seemed sketchy to me. I feel like after remind it's heavily implied that the games take place in a time loop, and my theory is that that time loop starts when Riku falls in the darkness and Sora reaches for his hand. What if the "darkness" Ventus absorbed was Sora from an alternate timeline where he falls into the darkness with Riku and got norted? What if that Darkness manifested itself as Vanitas? What if Ventus and Sora are in a battle of light vs dark that keeps repeating itself? What if MoM was using Xehanort and book of prophecies to stop the time loop? What if that's the reason why Xehanort brought Kairi to the Destiny Islands, to stop Sora from falling into darkness?

Oh damn I never thought about whu Vanitas would take the form of an adult Sora. I can totally see Darkness from the future going into the past which is kind of what i'm trying to get at when Darkness in UX calls Maleficent and "old friend". That context doesn't make sense since they haven't met at that time period unless that Darkness was from the future or has knowledge of both of them teaming up in the future. I also had a minor theory that maybe Sora could be that darkness himself. I don't have anything to go off of just an idea that I had. But would fit into your theory. Plus I noticed darkness in UX is small, almost child sized next to MoM... I wonder if thats gonna have any merit in the future.

@UnlikeMike0 I honestly believe there are a lot of questions left unanswered when it comes to Ven, such as why did Xehanort insist on using him as an apprentice to form the X-blade when he had no ability to use the darkness? How did Xehanort know where to find him after using the life pod to travel into the future after UX? What is his true connection with Sora, how did his heart know to go to a baby Sora for shelter? There are a lot of things surrounding his character and vanitas that don't make sense. Another reason I believe Vanitas might be Sora from another timeline, is that he also doesn't wear a black cloak like the rest of the 13 darknesses. Instead he wears armor that's *very* similar to the one given to Riku by Ansem in KH1, actually Riku and Vanitas are the only two characters weve ever seen with that armor. What if in alternate timelines without Kairi, Sora is the one who becomes a vessel for Ansem instead of Riku? That would explain the reason behind "Vanitas" having armor that resembles Rikus armor given to him by ansem. Another thing I think about a lot is Yozora and his relationship with Sora. He knows who he is, he obviously recognizes him, he doesn't seem like a straight antagonist but more like he's capturing him for a greater good. Yet he approaches Sora with hostility and starts fighting with him right out of the bat, anyone who knows our version of Sora knows you don't really need to force him into helping anyone, so my impression is that Yozora had possibly seen alternate versions of Sora which weren't so jolly. In fact I'd say given his reaction, alternate Soras from other timelines might mostly be succumbed to the darkness. Like aforementioned, it seemed like Ventus and Sora play pivotal roles in the story moving forward, and we've definitely not seen the end of Vanitas. It also piques my interest as to why Vanitas refers to Sora as his "brother".
