People still remember that Hot Rod was a young autobot and when he was changed into Rodimus Prime it just made him more mature and mature looking but at heart he was still a young Autobot, He always found the burden of leader ship was a bit much on his back he had big shoes to fill in

Well the thing is after the movie and they killed off Optimus it was such a huge deal they planned on bringing him back Rodimus had no chance to show leadership….he already failed before he had a chance….you can see it how they made him look like a fool in almost every episode. I was sad prime died but at the time I was glad they chose HotRod to be the new leader….he gets a lot of hate.

Now I am in my late 30s I can appreciate that he did nothing to deserve my hate lol I appreciate the character now and as a concept he was always going to be a hard sell to people at the cost of Optimus. As a character he had to fill the shoes of a leader that years later was revered as one of the greatest of all time and had other transformers being named after him (optimus primal). The poor guy had no chance lol.

Great review. Comparing WFC Rodimus to POTP Rodimus just shows how much of an improvement this figure was. I have both myself but man WFC Rodimus was definitely worth the price!

I bought this guy as an early X-mas present for myself. I needed him in my collection! Rodimus Prime is my all-time favorite character in the entire TF franchise and I'm so happy we finally got a decent figure of him! He looks amazing on my shelf with so many of my current favorite TF figures! I have him wielding the Dr Wu Matrix Sword, with my Generation Selects Super Megatron figure standing next to him aiming his fusion cannon in a badass action pose, based on my Transformers: Armada-inspired story idea where the two join forces, forming an Autobot/Decepticon alliance against Unicron and his armies of darkness commanded by The Fallen himself, Megatronus.

At first, I did not want this figure, because I did not think it was worth the Commander Class price point. I finally decided to go for him and I am not at all disappointed. There is SO much playability with him. Also, I never got the 86 movie G1 figures and now, 35 years later, I finally do.

Great review rodimus! He looks way better than initial images. His robot mode is perfect ,better than the masterpiece. This is the definitive rodimus prime. Only wish his trailer was a bit smaller and fit better

I have found one Galvatron so far. He is awesome robot mode and Canon mode both look marvelous the transformation is a little complicated but just to have cyclonus and the sweeps standing paying homage to Galvatron is well worth it

yeah when you push Roddy all the way into his trailer you have to push him all the way back till it clicks. that black peg that goes into his spoiler is spring loaded so you dont have to put him in at an angle if you dont want to. the paint on that spoiler is very durable. it hasnt scratched the paint on mine at all. The tab on the cannon actually slots into the thing that flips open in the front. Great review. =)

I just got to add the toyhax label set and it did wonders. I almost cancelled my preorder on him until I saw your review. Reminding me about the GM Bison which hardly anyone has heard of being inspiration was my tipping point to get him. I'm sure by now you have him all Toyhaxed up but I'd thought I'd share a slight tip when it comes to the hubcaps. I customize and do a ton of paintwork for bots and can tell you that if you don't lightly scuff the plastic caps, paint and even quality labels will peel. You make the point with the black effects that they make no sense for a turbine truck. They do work great with Nemesis Prime by changing the post slightly. I couldn't afford it. Gratefully I was able to get the POTP Rodimus for cheap and I really enjoy that one. It's not as nice, of course, but "Hot Rod" robot mode passes very well for Rodimus plus he has a trailer combine super robot mode.

I got mine two days ago and WOW. I loved the ER/kingdom prime with hiw good he felt to pose and his fun transformation, but playability wise and overall fun this Rodimus absolutely destroys everything else i have in my collection! To me well worth the price point and I'm very excited to see what's next:()

I just got rodimus prime a few days ago. He really is a solid figure as well as the trailer. The only thing that worries me is the clamp attached to his clear plastic windshield. I always worry about it cracking or just plain breaking off. Also some areas on him don't peg in as well after you've transformed him a few times.. and that back spoiler won't stay pegged in very well on mine so it's always unplugging from his back in robot mode. Other than that he's great.

This really is a fantastic Rodimus Prime figure! I came back to your review to learn how to Transform mine, I got it in the BF deal on Amazon (thank you again!), it arrived today! But they just slapped the shipping label on the retail box, somewhere along the lines the instructions fell out. The box looks like hell, but thankfully the figure inside was complete and unharmed. I am absolutely loving the figure, especially with his pre-matrix SS86 Hot Rod side by side!

I actually support not painting the hubcaps. In robot mode, the wheels wouldn’t blend into the arms as amazing as they do if they were painting in my opinion and the lack of paint doesn’t bother me.

I always thought he was an advanced sports car camper because leaders were meant to have that "All American, cross country traveler" feel, Optimus being a hard working honest natured trucker and Rodimus being the sturdy/sleek family vehicle because of his closeness with the Daniel.

The whole problem with the trailer not closing all the way is because the gatling gun makes that area above the car stick up too much so the whole thing doesn't close all the way.

for the longest time, i did the same with my POTP Hot rod as Rodimus, but instead of a powered up form, i always thought of the powered up Rodimus mode as Primus from the Marvel Comics, like the whole Red and orange humanoid look, if Primus actually had a Robot Mode. i know we have figures like the Haslab Unicron and the Battle Master Rung, but i would love to see a Leader or a Commander Class Unicron and Primus just to have them displayed along side the upcoming Age of the Primes figures

Ok My friend... I FINALLY got this figure last Wednesday... You know I am an Optimus Prime fan, former Rodimus Hater, and I still like Ultra Magnus much more as a character than Rodimus. I remind you now I like Rodimus and appreciate him as a character... Regarding the figure... WOW! JUST WOW! MAN! I LOVED THIS GUY! One of the best on War For Cybertron Line! This is one of... if not the figure I like the MOST on the entire line! I own various MP figures and the engineering for this figure is Master Pieced like. Wow I live Color Red, Red and White are my favorite colors and red for this Figure is just awesome! The price point is ok, In Vehicle mode this is is commander sized. I think they should have made Optimus Prime´s Trailer bigger and with more accessories and give him the commander treatment. Still this is awesome the only things I don´t like are the Vehicle Smoke Stags which are interrupted on "GM" Bison Mode, I wish I 3rd party company may fix that. The other thing is when transforming the legs, the wheels need to forced a little bit on to the socket. With Today´s plastic quality, I don´t want it to break after transforming it a various times. Besides that... WOW! This is better than almost any figure out of the War for Cybertron line!

I’m sure I’m a little late sharing this with you, but an eBay seller named jimmyhauser Has made a 3-D print of the cab for Rodimus prime that includes parts of a smokestacks that blend in with the trailer to make him look like his G1 alt mode. He has also made some decals to go on the front part of the trailer as well as decals for the wheels to make them silver. I would give him a look. You might be interested

Nice review. You forget to extend the arms for the transformation step. It isn't a dramatic change but it adds a bit clearance for the pipes. For the face, they recycled POTP rodimus' face, so painting it white/gray will make him look younger.

Interesting enough, Hot Rod's vehicle mode was modeled after the Japanese Dome Zero car. With all the recent Rodimus Prime Toys, it's like they just tried to take the Dome Zero and give it an RV shaped trailer. For Rodimus Prime's vehicle mode, I wish there was a way to tuck the car under the trailer and close the gap more, as well as have the spoiler up towards the front middle like the G1 version. Rodimus Prime always had one compressed futuristic mode that looked like one big vehicle, not necessarily a trailer with a car the way these toys are looking. I think they nailed the Robot Mode! It looks fantastic!
