Is there any reason besides preference for why you stand while playing bass? As a bass player who sits I’ve never understood why players stand to play. Are there any advantages you have with standing?

I find that for myself and my students, having greater flexibility in my hips and ankles is really crucial for tone production. Standing also provides freedom to traverse quickly between registers without as much tension as when I sit. I prefer standing greatly, and find that the bass players I admire also stand. This opintion is obviously colored by the types of music those players are making, and I definitely think that sitting can have advantages for certain players and styles of music that may keep one more in the low register of the instrument.
