~3 years old, Tarja performed "Enkeli taivaan" (Finnish "From Heaven Above to Earth I Come") at the Kitee Church Hall. ~3-6 years old, Tarja started taking vocal lessons via the church choir, and started learning how to play the Piano. ~8-18 years old, she was bullied at Comprehensive School for her vocal talent. Plamen Dimov, her Vocal Teacher (and Tuomas's Music Teacher) organized projects outside school to help prevent this. - Kirsti Nortia-Holopainen (her first Piano Teacher and Tuomas's Mother), "Tarja was in a school that had some very musical people. Even then she got to perform a lot. I think she sang in every school function there was." - Plamen Dimov, "If you gave Tarja just one note, she immediately got it. With the others, you'd have to practice three, four, five times". ~15 years old, she had her first major appearance as a soloist at a church concert in front of a thousand listeners. ~16 years old, Tarja attended the Senior Secondary School of Art and Music in Savonlinna. ~18 years old, Tarja moved to Kuopio, Finland to study at Sibelius Academy. ~20 years old, Tarja became Tuomas's muse and he created Nightwish's music to revolve around her voice. She became Founding Member, Lead Singer and Frontwoman of what would be the World's greatest Symphonic Metal band when she was still a baby. ~20 years old, Nightwish released their first album, Angels Fall First. It went Platinum in Finland. Floor has a giant vocal range and can sing almost every style of music, while Tarja has perfected singing in a specific field and type of music. Personally I think Floor fits Nightwish better though, as their songs got much more versatile with her.

This goes to show anyone who thinks musicians, especially vocalists are "lucky because they were born with talent" how wrong they are. Huge difference between 1993 and the 2000's. You can tell how much she had to work. So yeah, in my opinion talent is the way lazy people describe hard-working people's work. It doesn't take talent to master a craft, it takes work and practice.

Some of it has to do with like genetics of the brain when it comes to singing. Aside from tone deaf people, I think that there's a sort of "pseudo-tone-deaf" as well. That said, when it comes to getting especially _famous_ at singing it's more about being rich or getting lucky unfortunately.

Absolutely. I hate when people tell me that I'm talented with a "gOd GiVeN tAlEnt". No bitch! I literally went to music school for 5 years and afterwards I studied singing until masters degree. It's not talent, it's hard work. At my first year of music school I wasn't able to hit any key and I thought there will be no chance for me to become a god singer. Well I was wrong. Now I'm teaching people to sing and a lot of people who come to me to the first singing lesson think they'll never be able to sing but they're just unused to it, not untalented. Talent comes with work and not the other way around. People who are god in bodybuilding, painting, football or what ever are also not born with the ability for it, they were just more interested for that than others and exercise more in this way. It's the very same thing with singing. It's all about exercising to become talented. Period.

The 1993-1995 years are simply amazing....she sounds so different! Floor Jansen is fantastic in Nightwish--a lot of people hold her on a higher pedestal than Tarja as a Nightwish singer, but for me, I came of age listening to Tarja and there's such a gorgeous richness in her voice that works SO well with Nightwish songs. I'm glad she continues to be so successful as a solo artist.

It's shameful that I, old Tarjaholic, know so little about her solo work. That have to change. I was a big Nightwish fan 1998-2005. Then Tarja was fired, and I abandoned them all for years. Now I've been back with NW since Floor came in, and listened to some Tarja's music also, but I still have very little knowlegdement of her solo work. She is glorious. Music is not 100% for my taste, but I will have to give it better chance.

Tarja is like a Cathedral & wine - getting more talented & beautiful with age! In thi video we can also see Plamen Dimov - Tarja's first music teacher who is a Bulgarian who moved to Kitee, Finland a long time ago ;) Tarja has trained so much her voice and nowadays, her voice sounds more powerful and has a bigger range. What is more important is that Tarja still sings from her whole soul and this can be felt by any person - her voice is like velvet, touches you so softly, fill you with love & inspiration to fight for your dreams! This may sound a bit controversial, don't grill me yet :) I'd say that Tuomas from NW was better composer for Tarja than Tarja herself. I mean, songs created by him with Tarja's voice in mind have reached iconic status, and not without a reason. He was using her voice like an instrument, with deep knowledge how to make it most epic. Tarja's solo work, well, it is all good but there is a certain element that is missing. Maybe he was pushing her to her limits (and maybe further) and got the job done perfectly. Just my two cents.

Actually as an album it's rather weak (maybe because it was rather designed as a live show).

I love her so much. But I really wish she would straighten our her vowel transitions. She sounds like a goat or a cow. I don't mean that in an insulting way. I am not musically educated so I don't know the proper terms. I am just saying she does this excessive overpronounciation of vowels that hurt my ears. Drown is "druOOOOOWwn-ah" or lies is "Lih-EYEEEEs." This is lessened in the album versions of these songs

Oh, this really makes me cry. They were my first favorite metal band, then I watched Death and Nightwish was in second place, keep on listening death metal and after Death, Vader, Decapitated, Carcass and Kreator is Nightwish but with her.
