I had family members on the cruise and at the performance when he passed away. I’m sure it was devastating for his family. David Phelps has been a shining light in the gospel community for years. He sang for many years with the Gaither Men's Group and is a frequent participant in their homecoming performances. Everything he does is amazing and people just stand in awe. Plus, you can "feel" his worship in everything he does. He truly loves Jesus and shines that light all the time. I have been so blessed to see David live 11 times now and have been following him for more than 20 years. He is easily the best male vocalist in the world and has been for many years...and it is not even close. His range, tone, clarity, power and tenderness in his singing is like I have never heard from anyone ever before. David is beyond compare as a Tenor and human being. I've traveled about 2,500 miles in the last 30 days to see him in concert with another 700 going down this weekend and he never disappoints. Amazingly, his live performances are as good as and often even better than the studio work. His Spirit within rises up to meet the crowd. There is no doubt David is one of THE voices EVER but I'm always impressed by the very end of this video when Bill Gaither pulls him back out of the crowd and he's so humble and celebrates those around him even though he was the soloist and did such an incredible job.
