I'm curious as to what oils you are using in -30F weather. At -10 I blew the end of a power steering cooler off and the ATF piled up in a cone on the ground. I built a waste oil stove for the shop and in the low single digits used 15w40 piles up and would not flow.

we just use the cheap 15/40 motor oil and call it good but we also own vehicles in the cold temps the power steering and trans lines would pop off because the factory cheaped out on the clamp system. up here in the 5 hot days of summer we have to make sure the vehicles and equipment do not over heat. thansk

Lol. Must be. Still -14 here. So, most likely, my prediction is right. There are hills to the south of us that generally run warmer than here. Being only a half mile from a river and a 1/4 mile from the creek, it tends to be chilly willy here longer. My parents are 3 miles southwest, and I bet they are 5 to 6 degrees warmer. Sometimes dad will call and say it's warmed up to say -2 and it never will warm up here that day. Good thing I like to burn wood.

starting in sub zero temps...do not rev at all just idle for a while...the crankcase oil can be so cold that you can "spin" your main bearings which means replacing them...struth.
