Be interesting to see how it goes long term. My 3kW Kings lasted almost 12 months with mostly light use. The first one was DOA and if I add the numerouse trips to get it replaced, fuel time etc, it probably cost double its bargain price. But that is why we test things. 😉

You noted in your battbox review that the kings 12/25 dc dc was inside the casing... your drew 90 odd amps out of it... why didn't ya hit the box with your infa red thermometer... I would have been interested in that result... cheers like your thoughts on DC OFF GRID ETC

I didn't want to deviate to much from the video topic as the video was looking at the inverter. I just added the little bit on the Kings battery box in case someone noticed and wondered why I am using the Kings box and not the iTechworld box. The DC to DC in the box is only for charging so current draw from the output accessories plugs / ports doesn't effect the heat output of the DC to DC. I would however like to have a look at the temperatures of the cables inside the box when drawing 90 amps, see what temperature the cables get too, but I will leave that for another video.

i tested my kings 3000w inverter on my cooktop and it actually provided 50w more than the wall outlet did to the element. I don't know how exactly but using my watt meter the element was drawing 1100w from the wall and 1150w from the inverter. overall i am very impressed with the kings inverters.

Watts is the sum of volts and amps, so if either one is slightly higher, then the wattage increases. Then there is resistance that also comes into play as well. One thing I did notice on the Kings inverter is the output voltage is 240 volts where Australia is 230 volts and has been since the 90's. So it could be due to the slightly higher voltage coming from the inverter, maybe ?? Yeah that little Kings inverter handled that induction cooker without any problem, so I have high hopes for some of the Kings gear. It seems to be improving with time.

Hi Glen we know your in the wheat belt of Western Australia. I and probably others would love to know how far you travel to the nearest Bunnings and 4wd Supacentre. I bet your not close like myself. Keep up the good work thanks Mike

I have to be careful as people can triangulate my location from other locations and traveling times. I shut down my last channel because people found out where I lived and I kept getting a lot of drive-bys. You never know who is watching my channel, just waiting for the day I am not home. So I am a little cautious on the information I give out about my location.

Do you need an isolated transformer to test sine wave or just plug the probes straight in?. i read its best not to stand close to induction cook tops when in use.
@TheSimpleLivingAussie13 күн бұрын
Na it doesn't matter, you just use the correct probs with an oscilloscope probing the active and natural lines. Some inverters are galvanically isolated but a lot share the natural leg. Either way, you test the AC output the same way.

Hi Glen, Electronics Engineer here, The current will be EXACTLY the same no matter which end of the cable you measure at. That 10 amp difference is purely due to the accuracy of your measuring equipment. Would be interesting to know what the real current is Just to confirm - the voltage will be different at different points along the cable but the current will be EXACTLY the same no matter where you measure. If we use the 966W indicated and the 12.3V indicated and the 89% efficiency from the manual, the current should be about 88amps That is looking like a very bad error in that kings shunt based meter.

Ok awesome, thanks for the info. 👍 I always thought if you dropped voltage the current would increased to supply the same wattage but I maybe thinking of battery output. I will open the battery box and run the clamp meter across the cable near the shunt and see what I get. If the kings shunt is that far out, I will change it out for a Victron.... hmmm and a good video idea as well. Thanks again for your input, I just learned something new 👍

Kings 3k inverter in car, used immersion heater rated at 2400w, pulls 2700 instead for the 5min needed to heat the bucket each time, inverter doesnt hardly know it was there.

Modified is good for ruining copressors on fridges
@TheSimpleLivingAussie13 күн бұрын
Well kinda but not entirely. The compressor in a fridge has an electric motor in it, as we know and electric motors are an inductive load. Running an electric motor from a modified sinewave inverter will work but makes it runs hotter and can burn them out quicker. They will still run from a modified inverter as I have done this a long time ago before pure sinewave inverters became affordable. A modified sinewave inverters is good for resistive loads like heating elements, but one should use a pure sinewave inverter when running inductive and capacitive loads.

Yeh your right glen , i was refering to my freinds experience with poor quality modified sine wave inverters, he lost a few fridges until he bought a high quality pure sin inverter , and his fridges were oldschool no modern circuit board style fridges, all his compressors were fried, powerjack inverters what an abomination, weve been offgrid for a very long time, today your spoilt for choice. My family has been offgrid for decades

@closertothetruth9209..... Oh wait, sorry, I read your original comment as "good for running fridges" instead of "ruining fridges" ... ahh the joys of being dyslexic 😀 I have been off grid since the early 2,000's living full time in buses. Then when I bought my first house in the late 2000's , I built an off grid system (PWM controller and FLA Batteries) and ran the house off that. Feeding my off grid addiction of course 😁 But now with Lithium batteries, MPPT controllers and affordable solar panels, more people are doing the same.

TBH, pure sine inverters are so good these days that I’d never consider anything else.

You should only worry when the clock starts going backwards when you use it
