KINGS 3000W INVERTER REVIEW

Not bad, I'm surprised at how well it worked. The 3050w load through the BMS is probably correct, but the output of the inverter will probably be about 10% lower. Glad to see the Muller BMS is working well too, I have been meaning to test mine, but I may need to pass it onto someone else as I don't think I will really have time. The jumpy current reading will be a result of the sampling rate of the meter and noise from the inverter. This is something Andy has shown a few times. There's no easy way to avoid it (at least with consumer grade equipment) and it makes measurements awkward. You'll find a purely resistive load like a fan heater, kettle or halogen lights (who has those now though) work well for testing loads. But what you ran is probably a better indicator of todays gear because most of what we use now has some sort of PWM type power control. The things you ran were mostly resistive, but if you run that heat gun and a light from the inverter, you'll see the light flickering (it'll happen at varying points in the temp and fan speed). I actually suspect the Kings and Renogy inverters are very similar inside. They share a lot of the same features and even the mains sockets are identical.

yeah my kings 3000w does a great job, my biggest problem is voltage sag from the agm batteries, you basically need 300ah of them before the sag isnt too bad next upgrade is lithium ive hit my inverter with well over 3500w load and it handled it, it was hooked up to 7 x 100ah agms and there was still really bad voltage sag ive run the welder off it.. it didnt care 2300 water pump with a startup curent of over 20 amps and it ran fine... for the money the thing just works

That's not a soft start curcuit, that's a BMS switch on or off discharge. It's on the Muller Energry 250a BMS of the lithium battery

The Muller Energy (Jaibada BMS) 250a version is the BMS which has a Bluetooth module connected to the BMS. The app is called xiaoxiang and it allows you to reset parameters in the BMS so you can customise how it works. Really handy bit of kit when you build the lithium battery yourself. 3000VA Victron couldnt run our 2200W hoist, we figured based on calulation we would need around 3700VA but tried anyay as we already have the Victron inverter. I'm wondering if something as budget as this would likey do the job - your thoughts?

@chrisbaker4x4 I would say it's the in rush current required for the initial start of the hoist when under load. To combat this you can get "soft start" ebay parts installed in line which can make you able to run almost any bigger items. Also depends on the size of your battery bank? If it's not able to sustain the voltage the inverter will immediately cut out.

Which Kings inverter should I get to pair with their 120Ah lifepo4 battery? The 1500w jobby? Also, do you know if a Bluetooth battery monitoring system I can use on my phone, like you are, for my battery?

Victron Energy shunt And yes for a 120ah lithium battery you'll only be able to run a 1500w inverter comfortably

If there is a short curcuit anywhere down the line the breaker will pop first instead of the wire catching fire

That’s how you test things, a smidge over 100%… how many ah is that battery and will the bms shut it down if the battery gets too hot? Keeps us up to date on the inverter if you plan to use it a lot.

The battery is self made 280ah eve lifepo4 battery, the cells themselves I damaged in a video made months ago, but have since brought them back to life. Swollen lifepo4 cell battery video on them. And yes the BMS has two thermal probes for low temp disconnect and high temp disconnect. The BMS is Muller Energy 250a BMS

New to your site, what size battery did you have with the test. I have a 3000w inverter and looking to upgrade from AGM battery to 300ah Lithium to run Caravan Fridge and A/C at the most power draw at any one time. A/C would be only to cool van down, 2-3 hrs. Cheers Russ

Floating curcuits generally can't be grounded. If you want extra protection you can ground it.

Good test. I have the same inverter in my caravan. Do your fans turn off. On my inverter, if the fans come on they never turn off until I turn the inverter off, even if the inverter sits with no load for 30 minutes. Is that normal for this inverter?

Quite honestly I thought they weren't going to turn off until they did around 5-6amps draw, so it may be that they have the temp turn on setting too low I think. But at least it's keeping it cool

I literally came to find this comment. I have had my kings 3000w for a day now and the fans havent stopped, ambient temp around 23 degrees and less than 20w idle load from a few appliances plugged in but turned off, and yeah its roaring. Unplugged the loads all together and the fans ran for about another 5 mins then turned off. I wonder if it can be adjusted somehow

Update, fans pretty much never stopped in the last 3 weeks and now theyve done a bearing or something, noisy as hell, just put in a warranty claim so hopefully they just swap it for a new one on the day.

@mrtee3988 yeah they swapped it under warranty, got one with a different batch number and it still has the same issue fans run anytime its over 25 degrees once theyve turned on, and i also recently picked up the 1500w version and its the same. Ive now modified both with a current activated relay, the 240v live goes through the ring, and i put a 300w load on it and then adjust so that the fans just turn on at 300w, then cut the fan positive wire and run that through the relay. So now my fans run when the load is over 300w and the temp sensor inside the inverter triggers them to turn on. Also, the 3000w has 3 fans, one internally on the main mosfet heatsink directly, and two at the back where the dc cables come in. Ive run those two through the relay and left the internal one alone. It triggers a fault if unplugged or fails and shuts the inverter down, the two main fans dont.

In regards to off grid systems in caravans/vehicles - seeming a live chassis from faulting appliance can kill you without a protective device, using a portable RCVO plugged into the 240v output will protect, but because there's no earth to ground, YOU will be it. This should cause the RCBO to trigger but ut could be too late.. If you installed an earth stake from inverter chasis it was have tripped without you in circuit. Just a friendly reminder to all that 240v is 240v, it's dangerous and without a protective device or ground you're dicing with death

That's actually not correct. In mains power the neutral is earthed - there is no neutral coming into your house so earth is actually the final path of a circuit back to the power station. In a floating system like off grid, earth is not the return path to the source. You can get a shock from the capacitance to earth but you need to touch both active and neutral to be in the circuit. The earth is to stabilise the system in an off grid setup

I must have got very unlucky, i got the 1500w version of the kings inverter and it ran a 140w load (yeah 140, not 1400) for 35 minutes and let the smoke out, and dripped capacitor electrolyte everywhere. Thankfully kings took it back and gave me a refund, but im glad the 3000w one you got seems to do the job ok.

Yea that's very unfortunate mate, I know their gear is hit and miss but at least 90% of the time you can take it back and get another one or store credit.

I heard they do that in case something drops between the plug n socket it'll hit the earth and not active, who knows though.
