Absolute is debatable, since Progmetal actually has tens x tens of legendary and amazing bands, but yeah Opeth/DreamTheater/Rush basically are the three godfathers, in that they are the founders. And yes, Opeth is absolutely legendary. But the more you delve into prog, the more you'll find other legendary artists. @sevsimo, Opeth was founded in 1990 btw.

If you want a rollercoaster of a ride from a song look no further than Opeth! Really looking forward to what else you check out from them next. The Drapery Falls, Heir apparent, Beneath the Mire and Blackwater Park are 4 phenomenal songs worth delving into that have some serious length and tons of change ups that show case their ability to shift from heavy to clean in a heartbeat and not feel like its jarring. They always find a way to flawlessly string their sections together and all show off their talents as musicians.

Opeth has been my favorite band for quite a while now, over 10 years. This band is unique, and you won't find anything close to Opeth. Things inspired by it, yeah, but that really sound like Opeth? No. They really mastered that eerie feeling in their music, it really sound like if Opeth songs were literally haunted by ghosts. It's melancholic, eerie, sad but at the same time, so agressive, insidious and violent in its on way. love them.

Hey sevsimo, I've arrived at this. When I saw a new reactor that had a reaction to Opeth, and only just started his channel, I wanted to see your evolution and how you've arrived at Opeth. Suffice to say, it was not disappointing. I love your vibe, your reactions, your energy and your passion! Keep it up man, I'm gonna follow this channel fr! Oh and btw, you and I are one and the same when it comes to the importance of Bass, and why we prefer fingerbass over pickbass. I've always loved bass, and love that you give the bassists a lot of credit! When you started doing your rant about how insane it is that this is live, and how a band is only as good as it's live performances, I gotta recommend you something new. A band every Opeth fan knows, but you haven't reacted to yet. They're called Porcupine Tree. Started around the same time as Opeth, and Mikael Akerfeldt(Opeth's frontman), is friends with Porcupine Tree's frontman(Steven Wilson). They are a lot like Opeth, a lot of people consider Opeth and PT to be twins, with the one laying more into progmetal(opeth) and the other going more into progrock(PT). Steven Wilson actually mixed an Opeth Album, and they've made songs together too. The main reason I'm recommending them however, is not because they're a bit like Opeth; it's because Porcupine Tree's Lives are OUT OF THIS WORLD. Literally. I've been visiting concerts basically every month for over 12 years now(with the exception of covid lockdown), and never ever have I seen a better live performance than Porcupine Tree. You're gonna love them. Porcupine Tree is an incredible experience. I'd start with either ''Arriving Somewhere but not Here'', ''Fear of a Blank Planet'' or ''Anesthetize''. Doesn't matter which one you start with though, what matters is that you pick the live version over the studio version(there's incredible ones from all of those pieces). I'm really looking forward to more progmetal/progrock reactions man, keep up the good work, I'm enjoying your journey fr! And keep doing Opeth too, they have so much, so, so much....

They use PRS guitars with special piezo pickups to get the acoustic-like guitar sounds in the clean parts live. They're special kinds of sorcery that actually pickup the vibrations of the guitar itself rather than sound of the instrument.

They're one of Jinjer's big influences and Eugene's fave band. Note, all albums after 2008's Watershed changed style and do not have death metal vocals. They turned into a jazzy prog rock band. Lots and lots of people like their newer stuff, I can't say I'm one of them sadly. I appreciate it, it's just not my thing. Some of their earlier bangers to check out: Demon of the Fall, Blackwater Park, Deliverance, The Drapery Falls, and The Night and The Silent Water.

Re: them being absolutely on point the entire video.. Their singer told a story that when they first started out their first live gig was a disaster so they went back to their basement and decided to not play again to anyone before they were really good. They even started training in pitch black darkness to master their instruments, turning on the lights when someone played wrong and everyone pointing to that person. Now... they're flawless in execution.

Straight talk: IMO, the studio version delivers much better pacing on the last 2 minutes than this live version of this track. Still, Opeth are absolute legends in their own right. I’d say if you’re into “meta”, anything up to Watershed delivers. Past that, you’re into an overload of 70’s-esque prog rock with a bunch of over-produced analog sound. If that’s still your jam, then a huge calatog to go through here. 👍👍
