@@KingsandGenerals You missed a very IMPORTANT part which explains how Ashoka's thinking changed towards WAR. After Magadh army defeated the Army of Kalinga, the Kalingan Women came out to defend the Kingdom and stood there in front on Ashoka's Army. The Women at the front, Wife of the King who lost, told Ashoka how much insanity and brutality he did in that War. The Queen was good with words. Then after so much of Eye Opening facts she told to Ashoka, he felt guilty and remorsed. I don't understand why this is not told much as this was the Point that Changed Ashoka.

Ashoka is frankly incredible. I remember reading when I was teenager a translation of one of Ashoka's rock edicts. The one where he talks about the conquest of Kalinga and I was shocked!! Here was a King and conqueror who in a public monument openly saying "I was a super douchebag!", "I committed horrible crimes", "I regret making conquests", "I regret the acts associated with such things"!! Such statements, especially in public, are very, very rare by politicians and conquerors. Generally what we get are celebrations of conquest and the violence associated with it.Well I was completely aghast, and was more so when I found out Ashoka's background of violence and usurpation. Sadly there are many conquerors like Alexander the Great in human history but very few figures like Ashoka.

Well, he might be but it's his grandfather who had already started something of that sort. Was Ashoka the greatest Maurya or was it his grandfather, can be debatable. Greek Megasthanes, ambassador of Selucas, in his book Indica depicts an India from Chandragupta's so morally higher than just anywhere in the world at that time. Mauryan India was an unbelievably morally superior society for its time. Maybe more or less it was the case in Ancient India everywhere, it just became better during Mauryas.

Often romanticized stories often have no scientific evidence whatsoever. And thus it's far better to abide by these sciences and other clear proof which originate in the west but are nowadays global due to globalization. Again. This is entirely different from the sometimes also false inaccurate stories from the Western world in the 19th century. We today live in a very different world where everything is ruled by science and other western principles. Anything that is not provable nor any scientific or other evidence of remains a fantasy/opinion. For example much of India's own bronze age is all uncovered thanks to French and other western countries. In other words, Western civilization that helps uncover the past from various regions all over the world. From Greece and it's many incredible historic periods among it's bronze age and classical period, all the way to Afghanistan and other places where archaeologists and historians not only help to uncover, but also preserve, and build and fund museums for the next generations to come. @@caomhan84 Yes. Exactly that. And I know this because I have been following archaeology websites for 10+ years now and history covering all regions of the world. It took me some time to unravel the history and social structures, religion of India, but I have also found that many of the Indians on the internet preaching everything is one big fat lie. I have since then addressed countless of Indians who are telling lies and asked them to support their opinionated claims. And 99% of all Indians never ever came with one. Only a rare 1 out of 100 is actually able to "discuss" and actually try to come with something. The other 99 was insults, and more lies. And in the meantime I had 1001 sources, facts, archaeology sites, sciences and other proof to prove them wrong. And still then they try to play the ostrich and try putting their heads in the sand like extreme ignorant people. Anyway. there are also more educated Indian people who can relate to this and agree to India's incredibly poor state of education among people. Most people don't know anything about their history, and more importantly about other peoples history. I have spend those 10 years among world's history because I fell in love with Greek history, and so to know where Greek history truly stands, I had to know the history of all other regions. And by then my respect for Greece's history has truly grown. It's for a reason why it's the most influential civilization in the world and the foundation of the western world which dominates 60% of the world today and to where it's principles and achievements are globalized. --------------------------------------------------------- 2). . I know exactly the story of the flying machines haha. They are the Vimana's, the so-called flying machines thousands of years ago. One of the greatest fabricated anecdotal fairy-tales coming from Indian soil. The modern-day extremely romanticized Vimana's storytelling are based on a 1930 Indian book written by a man thousands of years later, completely out of context and own interpretation. The Vimana's have never been mentioned in the earliest religious texts and when it was mentioned in later religious texts, the Vimana's where still a horse with a carriage on the ground. That's is something completely different from these "fllying buildings that could travel to the stars". A profound difference between fiction and true evidence/what has been found to date. 3). I am from India and quite amazed that there are a lot of Indian people who have wrong facts about India (and Indian flag). So read this and verify from the internet if you have any doubt. Modern Indian administration is built on a similar pattern of Ashoka's Administration : 1. The Ashoka Chakra is a depiction of the Dharma Chakra; a wheel represented with 24 spokes. 2. The most visible use of the Ashoka Chakra today is at the center of the Flag of India (adopted on 22 July 1947) 3. The first 12 spokes represent 12 stages of suffering. Next 12 spokes represent no cause no effect taught by the buddha. 4. Decentralization of power from the center to the village level. The "gram pradhan " of modern India is the same post called "Rajjuk " in Ashoka's period. 5. There was also the "district magistrate" at Ashoka's time they were called " samaharta" and even today in Bihar district magistrate are called samaharta. 6. The National Emblem of India is an adaptation of the Buddhist Lion Capital of Ashoka at Sarnath, near Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. This emblem is also printed on Indian currency notes.

Now that I think about it towards the end Alexander really did change almost like Asoka. But what made Asoka so special was that he changed at his zenith. Alexander changed much later in his life as he started realizing that his grasp on this earthly realm is ever shrinking with age. In a nutshell coming to sense with his own mortality changed Alexander but Asoka came to sense through witnessing the mortality of others caused by his actions.

Despite repeated foreign invasions, Sri Lanka has survived for over 2,000 years as a single unitary nation because of the ethical, moral and logical strength of Buddhism that unified our people throughout our history! Futhermore, Sri Lanka has served as the primary center of Theravada Buddhism from which the faith was spread to South Asian nations by Sri Lankan Buddhist monks ! Indeed, we Sri Lankans have much to be grateful to this great and visionary king Dharma Ashoka of India! 🙏!❤!

Ashoka made a great impact on indian culture which can still be seen in modern India's foreign policy of not attacking first and helping nations in need if asked for.

Lot of misinformation in the video. 14:00 first Indian King to think of people's welfare? No thank you. Even Buddhists and Jain texts write of plenty of Great kings for people's welfare including Rama and Krishna. 2. Ashoka sent missionaries to far off places like Kashmir and gandhara? 😂😂 These regions were founded and established by Ashoka. Shrinagar was founded by Ashoka and has been Kashmir capital ever since
