Many western ppl forget it and just focus on Cuban missile crisis or Korean war as a serious part of cold war but during this war the navies of USSR(which defended India against USA and UK navies) and USA and UK (which were supporting Pakistan and send to attack India's navy) came nearly into a conflict.

One of the saddest stories I’ve read about Gallipoli was about the attack at the Nek. Two waves of Australians had gone over the top and were nearly wiped out by Turkish machine guns. The Australians were preparing a third assault when a Turkish Officer climbed out of his trench and yelled out in English This is madness, for Gods sake stop it. The third assault went the same way as the first two. What happens when you have ill prepared plans, incompetent leadership at the top, arm chair generals who think they know more than the real generals and contempt and arrogance to an enemy.

Also britian did plenty of stuff without the help of the soviet union and america. They squeezed the axis out of the middle east and east africa. Britian also did most of the fighting in north Africa was well and the British navy was vital in operation torch and the invasion of italy. British troops also played a key role in liberating the benelux and in the italian campaign. Also britian did give up half of europe to the communists, that was the land that the USSR had occupied after ww2 and short of going to war with the soviet union, which would be devastating for all those involved, they couldnt do much about it except try and stop the spread of communism further.

It is because neither of sides used weapons of mass destruction such gas warfare which was very common in western front. German officers advised to use gas while claiming that their high ground position is perfect for gas attacks and if Brits had this position they would have used gas against them without any question but Turkish side refused to use them!! So not all WW1 fronts are called as the last gentleman's war rather only Gallipoli...
@Torus21125 жыл бұрын
Actually it runs deeper. The generation that fought the war essentially grew up in the 19th century, most of the beliefs that shaped their worldview were violently torn down by the experience of the war. After it was all over people felt like everything they had ever been told was a lie, western civilization itself was plunged into crippling self doubt. In 1919 WB Yeats wrote this in his poem The Second Coming: Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere the ceremony of innocence is lost The best lack all conviction, while the worst are filled with passionate intensity

@Mission855555 жыл бұрын
@@ggoddkkiller1342 This isn't true. The British and Germans alike both saw the little potential that there was in gas, and subsequently it's use became rare. That bloody campaign means so much to me because I watched some video shots from those times and seeing a turkish woman got shot on the battlefield and even under that circumstance she still tried to give water to the wounded soldier just before she died and a 15 year old soldier was boiling his shoes because he has nothing to eat and those scenes really gives me goosebumps and lead some tears in my eyes. Reading diaries of soldiers was really heartbreaking and reading how much they suffered. Seeing people in those terrible conditions really makes you feel in a great depth for what they have sacrificed in order to save us from colonization. Also seeing the numbers of people from australia and new zealand died, makes me really disgusted from all wars and politicians. They died for nothing in some kind land that they had no any idea about it. God Bless all the people who died in that battle.
