Same here! Mark Russo was a great addition to TDB. He was the solo sax player for Tower of Power, another legendary band. Russo "quotes" Soul Vaccination in this video in the beginning and in the middle as a salute to TOP.

Age has nothing too do with it. Great music never gets old. The sax solo was amazing. Tower of Power vibe. I got kicked out of h.s. band for biting on the reed of my Alto sax for squealing out high notes. Then ten years later I was playing lead trumpet and hanging over on a double C in Memphis State, Dr. McKay asked me not too this again. lol

pat just keeps on rocking. that guy is amazing and way under rated. IMHO the doobie brothers are what happens when you put a bunch of talented musicians from different cultural and musical backgrounds together. the talent just oozes off of these people. one of the few whose music has not stood the test of time, it sounds as good or better when these guys play live as they ever have. they've lost nothing over the course of time. never had to run around with the entourages and gossip rags to stay relevant. none of them had to be shot, or come out of an egg onstage or make some stupid speeches about the same things we've heard from everyone else ad nauseam and they look like they're just there to sing, play and give the audience their best performance. i'd for sure pay to go see them still.

@@davidm4630 I believe it's Marc Russo, not Mark Russo. Two different guys, though both play saxophone. I noted that Marc played an old Selmer Mark VI alto on this gig. Great horn, highly sought after (though some of them were not well-made). Marc has an incredible altissimo range with power to spare. Reminded me of David Sanborn, who died about a week ago.

I listened to the original decades ago on the really good stereo system I spent my summer holiday earnings on. Later, I would listen on an expensive car system. I'm an old lady now, listening on a powerful little JBL soundbox, Bluetoothing from my phone. It still sounds fantastic! Hint to new listeners to The Doobie Brothers - make sure you show respect for the musicians by using good speakers. Then you'll catch all the complexities of these amazing music makers.

Just saw them last week. They were a man down (Tom Johnston out with a back problem). So what did they do? They rocked. And they showed the crowd what it is to be true, versatile musicians. When you take their talent as individual musicians and then combine that talent you get the Doobie Brothers and that means musical perfection. What a concert! Oh, and it was an added bonus to see & hear Michael McDonald perform with them again. I last saw them at the Mississippi River Festival in 1979, so I feel more than blessed to have been able to see them again.

You know...Tom has been back for some 30+ years. When they toured as the Cycles album came out, it was such a rush to have basically the original band back. They are fine artists and craftsmen now. Better than ever. I’m 59.

The Doobie Brothers В СССР 1980 г. у меня была их пластинка, самый клевый хит у них, мне нравится - Long Train Runnin. Самые клевые вещи рождаются в джем-сейшенах. The Doobie Brothers In the USSR In 1980 I had their record, the coolest hit they have, I like it-Long Train Running. The coolest things are born in jam sessions.

No it doesn’t. It’s good. But entirely different singers except Pat. Arguably it’s better. Cowan sings much higher than Tiran Porter. But not the same. By the own admission the sound changes.
