In answer to the person wondering who took the video, I filmed it on Super 8 film, probably about the mid 60’s. The original clip was of considerably better quality. Thanks to my son, Tom, who converted and posted the film to KZbin to be shared with others. I am delighted that so many others have enjoyed this snapshot of KINGSTON history. - Jim Rigney / KHS class of 1958

Thanks for the video! I grew up in Kingston -I even went to KHS!- and have lived and studied in Germany and Sweden and I have always meant to go back for a visit...One of these days!!

Thanks for this, fairly certain I saw my Grandfathers dry cleaning delivery van ahead of the camera at 0:32 ! So cool to revisit this…

I remember the old bus station right next to the y. I was born in Kingston 1994. at the end of the 90's the bus station got taken down. The old y building looked a lot nicer than the current one.

Oh Kingston *sigh* In high school I couldn't wait to leave that small town. Even though this video is from the 60s a lot still looks just the same today. Now that it's been 10 years I can't wait to visit or maybe move back (or at least somewhere like it). I need to plan a visit soon #homeiswheretheheartis Thanks for posting this!

Thanks for posting this, I grew up in Stone Ridge, lived there from 1963 to 1984. So a shopping trip to Kingston was a big deal back then. I keep looking for our Corvair driving on the streets in this clip, dont' think I'll see it.

Caught a glimpse of Britts department store in the Kingston Plaza. Got caught shoplifting there in 1971 when I was 11. It made the Kingston Freeman but they didn't mention my name of course. I was Scared Straight after that.

Thanks for this upload! Its crazy not much has changed. The biggest changes I saw were the Kingston Hospital, The bus station that used to be on Broadway is now Rite Aid Pharmacy, the Plaza, and Main street (by Fair) used to be a 2 way street.

You'll notice ecamhi posted a comment indicating his mom's Mustang convertible was in front of the car doing the filming. Anyway you can see the plate? Thanks for the memories! I don't Kingston doesn't look as good today! Wayne

Pretty cool! I was born in Kingston hospital in '56. Meagher and MJM schools, both of which are now defunct. 0:16 Carroll's Hamburgers at W Chester; the chain was bought out by Burger King/still at that location. 2:07 County office building was a scandal!--its modern architecture was considered out of place amongst Kingston's colonial heritage.

This is great, I was born at Kingston Hospital in 1971 and lived in Hurley until 77' when we moved to NJ. Still get back up there alot, my brother lives in Saugerties. I remember Carrols burgers had something like a Big Mac, but it was out on Albany Ave not Broadway. I remember Miron Lumber and the CamBoRec record store. Thanks.
