wow, so many negative reactions, but it`s motivating! Just a quick note, I didn`t realized the video is for this format, so I made a free interpretation, I had no instructions. I didn`t filmed the preparation, because, patching the synths and making the patterns is easy. I put an accent on keeping the (unedited, unstable) vocal in sync, while developing a basic composition. It was more fun making it than looking at it now, but that`s the risk of the live recording, thanks for watching :)

It's made pretty clear in the text, too, that this is something different: "did things a little differently: he sent us a video, filmed by Boris Katzounov, of him using vinyl acapellas and his armoury of studio gear to show off what he does for his live show in five minutes" Amazing how many people can't read three paragraphs of text before commenting. We love the video, and it's great to have Kink as part of the series, regardless of how strictly it sticks to the brief.

nice that the people take music making very seriously! I think what I do is just a nervous tic :) Sometimes in such installment you need to edit 3 settings and fix the turntable speed at the same millisecond, while planning the next development of the composition. I have only two hands and my brain is still not perfect in multitasking :) so, after watching my videos, i noticed that i do more moves than needed, when i`m excited and i try to handle something that`s not so easy for my posibilities

I think it makes sense that he is lightly tapping knobs/faders so that they move slowly and changes are more subtle. I don't get what the big deal is. You can audibly hear the difference. Sometimes he taps something for a few seconds and does not move it, then moves on to something else. It seems more like a habit of constant movement, than some deceptive attempt at making people think he is changing settings. Or maybe the knobs are hot. Maybe he is hot! He doesn't want the knobs to melt!
@MaartenHaaseTrouwfilms8 жыл бұрын
I recognize this technique... I do it myself to.. Most live performance guys are very slow in moving hands.. But some people are kind of overclocked what causes fast impulsive movements, some call it adhd, others ask if you are on drugs... I got the same... But it improves the speed of how you can create new stuff.. But your right.. It's kind of a habit.. sometimes you move a hand or finger to a slider and while you do that you Eddie if you want to turn t or not, resulting in touching sliders without moving them. There is also this rhythmic flow that creates a sort of finger tapping habit..

i do it too when i'm mixing and i'm deep in the process, it helps me sort of bring up the fader smoother in a sense rather than trying to bring it up in just one motion over a long period of time, i don't know if it makes any sense but it does to me, btw i did ead the interview and i read that he did cause he just was so caught up in the performance, at the time i just guessed he did it for the same reason i do it sometimes lol
