Split the signal! One path goes to Rob's normal setup, you get that good "normal" guitar tone. The second path runs though Andrew's rig, and you get that good "synthesized" guitar tone. Then you have it mixed and produce a wicked track!

I know that Klayton (Celldweller/Circle of Dust/Scandroid) and Nine Inch Nails use their modular synth setups to also manipulate their guitars (and other instruments), and they tend to blend that with more standard guitar effects as well. I'm sure many others do in the electro/industrial scene, but beyond that, a video like this is really great for presenting the potential for new ideas, sound design, and just how wide the palette of modern music can be. Good stuff, guys!

You two should make this an annual thing like First of October, not in the making an album sense, but once a year just set aside a day where you two just get together and get crazy on the synth because you have so much fun and I think fans of both of your channels enjoy the videos immensely. Maybe First of April

Imagine him playing Rain with the modular synth. Those are some sick riffs! I'd definitely listen to an album with modular synth djent

I know the idea of First of October is to record the whole album in a day, but damn I would love to hear what type of album you guys could come up with together if given a week or more!

This guy has a stand, to hold his patch cables, I appreciate that so much..... that aside... I want to do this, I like making experimental music, combining different stuff, this is pretty much a whole new instrument.

Glad I’m not alone in wanting to see these two jamming like this live! Maybe they could even take a Ben Folds-esque approach to include the audience to a point? It’d be a great time for sure either way!

if you drop a whole drum loop into a convolution reverb plugin and just play a palm muted 16th note chord you can get some neat gating and reverb effects

I am 100% certain that synth-heavy industrial/goth bands like Skinny Puppy have done this, in fact I'm pretty sure that cEvin Key of Skinny Puppy in particular has mentioned doing it.

Too cool, I think it would be really interesting if you recorded the raw guitar signal as well, and any signal generating modules from the synth, so every now and then you could’ve cut to the raw signal to to show what is going in, compared to the music that’s coming out

I always wondered if a guitar would work as a controller for a modular synth. Turns out, it does, and I kind of want some synth modules now!
