I dearly love the other versions of this song sung by other singers, and I have the utmost respect for those singers, but I like this version the best. Catherine MacLellan truly captures the spirit of her father's song.

I've always liked this song. There's something special about its simplicity and innocence and it seems reminiscent of a gentler age. Today I looked it up on KZbin and played Anne Murray's version. I always thought this was a happy song, but I'd never really listened to the words before, until now, and after listening to the lyrics properly, I think it's just about one of the saddest songs I've ever heard! I wanted to find out if Anne Murray had written this song about something that had happened in her life, but then I found out it was written by a man called Gene MacLellan. When I read about him I was impressed and a little awestruck that he had written something so intensely sad, romantic and profound. Then when I learned that he had killed himself in 1995 I was truly shocked. This song has taken on a new meaning. In this video you can see it on her face. This song is a big deal. He lives on in this song.

*Just found this artist. Was going through her channel / songs. I enjoyed a lot of them. Saw this video and wasn't sure if this was a cover or just another song with the same title. Had to check. Then WOW and WHAM - a couple of tears right from the beginning. THIS song has to be done beautifully like this. Did NOT expect that. Very rare find. Then read her dad wrote this song. I get it now and I'm mind blown...*

As much as I love Anne Murray's singing, I have to say, I prefer this version over her's. The lyric's are very sad and this is demonstrated in how slowly it's down and highlights the essence of this song. Bravo, Catharine.

Great version. The daughter of the original writer? Yup! ...I like this slower version -more contemplative, and a bit sorrowful. Anne Murray's rendition, great voice that she had, feels almost joyful, a bit rushed, and ends too suddenly, contrasting with the content of the words.
