In the past others have said how Momo wasn't into his kids. Here we see that Momo despite not having a father himself is a great parent. He let Gentaro "get him" when they were racing around. He loves playing and hugging hyperactive Kintaro. I've seen him smiling at both boys, especially in the zoo videos of their indoor quarters. Kudos to both Momo and Genki.

An earlier vid Momo brought a tasty branch to the pit to share. Genki immediately collected up Kintaro and left. He looked over to Gentaro like "WTF". He then lets the branch drop from his mouth crestfallen. Momo such a good dad.

So true! You are so right. Today I was watching 10/1/21 and momo and Ki were in the hay box. Ki brushed a small branch gently, playfully and Momo just smiled and they played. I am fairly new here and I didn’t realize Momo didn’t have a father. I’ve seen bits of the family’s history. Can you recommend something I could read?

Thanks for the tips! I did hear a little about Genki (all of which I can’t remember). It was like I was punched in the stomach. Hard. I enjoy all the comments. Do others sort of feel a little bit of, they are our families? I loved when Robin Williams visited Koko(?) the gorilla who learned to sign. Unbelievable!! It was adorable and touching when they tickled each other. I only recently saw Gentaro (?) Signing a little bit. Sorry, memories slip past me at times.

This was such a good video. So many attributes of each family member. Dad Momo was so funny teasing Kintaro with the nursing. He was so human-like with his facial expressions. Kintaro looked surprised, "What are you doing, Dad. You can't feed me. Can you?" Then lovable Gentaro. Always showing his love for little brother and Gentao's need for attention, too. But, I think the star of this video was Mom Genki. She did some incredible acrobatics while holding on to Kintaro. There was one moment I thought she was going to drop him. But, true to his survival instincts, he hung on like a trooper and maneuvered into a safe position. Mom deserves a round of applause for her trapeze skills while carrying a growing Kintaro. Well done, Mom. 😃😍

I can't even begin to imagine how strong Genki is. My arms felt like they were going to fall off when I had to carry my baby around the grocery store. Here is Genki, carrying her own weight, along with her chubby little baby, swinging from one side to the other, a long way up! She's really not considered young anymore, either, which makes her that much more impressive. 💕💕💕

Basically, Momotaro changed the subject from nursing to play. Smart daddy. I always enjoy watching Momotaro play with his sons. I loved it when Kintaro looked over his shoulder at Momotaro when he was watching him eat that twig or root. Then it was good to see Kintaro holding on to Genki. I've missed that. Good video.

Genki mama is the absolute best! She loves her boys so much it shows and take a moment to evaluate her boys. The boys both have such wonderful personalities. They are even more curious than cats and their parents have their backs whenever they get into a difficult situation.

I love this kid. Always so happy, so loved by all the members of the family and loves all of them and tries to protect them from danger. He's also so sweet, pretty bad I took pictures of him with my cell phone and show them to my friends and family. He's so entertaining to watch. They way he puckers his lips when he wants milk, first time I see him do that to dad. lol I've found it rare in videos to find him going for a ride on Genki's back and it's as if his mom doesn't even notice he's up there. Every time I see him hanging from structures, especially when he started, got me so nervous, i'm like "there's no way in hell i could watch my 1,2 or 3 yr old hang from structures and not be right by his side watching and making sure if he falls, I will catch him. I guess I wouldn't have made a good gorilla mom. lol Kyoto Zoo is the first place I would visit, if I were to go to Japan. I keep telling my hubby that I want one, not just any one but Kintero. LMAO Yup you could say i'm obsessed with this family. I got to see the family once a day, helps keep me happy and positive. I'm bed ridden 95% of the time, so thank you for the people who do these videos, you are life savers, not just for gorillas, but for humans like me too! I live in Canada and with the cards i've been dealt regarding my health, I may never be able to go to Japan but a person can dream and hope. Thank you please keep the videos going. I sure hope Genki gets pregnant again soon. Wouldn't it be great if she had a little girl next time, not just for conservation reasons but Genki needs to level the playing field with all these boys. I am really happy the zoo, did not introduce another female. I don't know if Genki would have been able to handle that with her past that was painful and fascinating at the same time. She's got a great silverback, if he can only remember to get her pregnant again. lol

How did it happen? Is there a video on it?

@@aruba531 It was an inflammation caused by an infection in her teeth. Genki has very poor dental health, so she periodically got these welts along with painful toothaches, causing her to shake her head in agony. They were treated with antibiotics, but the problem won't go away unless she has surgery to remove those teeth. Last I read, she was scheduled for a procedure this fall, so hopefully soon that will be fixed. They would have done it sooner, but because she just had a baby, they couldn't separate them or risk her milk passing on any anesthetics or other strong medications to Kintaro.
