My family has 320 acres in Arkansas. Probably 250 is woods. We are getting ready to have the timber cut for the first time in probably 100 years. Most will be select cut. But we are going to have them clear cut about 16 feet around the edges of the property to get a road so we can tour the edges to inspect fences and for signs of trespassing as well as a possible fire break. We are going to need a tractor for getting rid of stumps(either pulling them out or grinding) and for digging rocks and boulders. We'll be bush hogging our grass areas also. I grew up driving row crop tractors(most around 130 hp). My cousin wants a bigger tractor, but I'm thinking 75 hp. He's thinking 100hp or more. I think a bigger tractor will be hard to maneuver in the woods. It can be a daunting decision. I like this kioti. 73 hp might do the job.
@kapperoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Well after doing many tasks like you I have learned that I needed a tractor of this size. But honestly, depending on your future uses you might be better off with a skid steer and stump bucket or even a mini excavator. Only reason I say this is that pulling stumps is a very slow and daunting task with a tractor (in general). And if you have that kind of length of road it will be a looooong road to get them hardwood stumps pulled. Or even a skid steer and rent a stump grinder for it, that would probably be the fastest I would think. Just some things to think on! Feel free to email me if you want any more feedback. kapper@kapperoutdoors.com Thanks and best of luck to you! Sounds like a beautiful chunk of land!

Before I go on (2:03); I'm assuming you're cutting down the thick stuff (and widening) so Mrs. K can routinely keep it maintained? Let's see if I'm right or not in the video? ;-) Regarding the steep ditches, maybe find some used 3' tall wire fencing and poles, paint it a bright color and install it along the worst of the ditches (also "DANGER" tape, and/or sings)?

Still think the drones need simple flashing IR led trackers you can place on what you want to track. A known flashing pattern of IR light the drone can see and filter out of the video that says keep this in this area of the shot would simplify things and give them accessories they could sell to have different invisible codes for multiple drones to follow.

how are your hips doing now a days? Have they settled down after the surgeries ? I've been doing some pilates now the past year, damaged ligaments in my lower back keeps causing a prolapsed disc which can be popped back in place but just as easily pops back out and it has been hell at times, but since i started doing the pilates it has helped a little to strengthen the muscles around the area and stopped them going into spasm a little less and it has a little less reduced the number of times it pops out. Really need a surgery but cant afford to go private and have had to try manage it best i can but i thought about yourself the other day whilst doing it and wondered how you were getting along and how much pilates would help. Keep up the good work
@kapperoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, hope you can manage for as long as you need to before surgery. I do strength training stuff, the hips are much improved but the broken foot and bad spine more than make up for it! I can only take an hour or two on any machine on most days, but at this point I am happy with that, as long as I can avoid the surgeries. Need 5 different surgeries to try to 'fix it all,' but really don't want them!! Thanks and good luck!

@kapperoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I always suggest to get as much tractor as you can afford, and go a little bigger than what you think you'll need! I had the NX6010, the highest hp for the hydro class and ultimately found that I needed a bit more, but we have some pretty big land, and big projects and such. Best of luck!

Kapper Outdoors- hey Kapp, thanks for the reply. As much as I’d like a big ol tractor, it’s not needed for my application. I’m only food plotting around 70 acres, mostly roads, trails, and a couple plots on it in a Pine plantation I have. I also do around the home, about 8 acres of field to mow. I’ve found a couple dealers in south MS but they have the same tractor, but a. 3500$ price difference. The dealer I got my Kubota at offered a better trade in price on my L2501 and are trying to work up a deal on the Kubota L5060 so I guess I’ll be doing some comparing. Your videos have been very Informative on tractors and I appreciate what your doing for the farming/land management people like myself that are getting started.👍🏻👍🏻
