that's the narrative that we hear but we also know how the narratives can be untrue. They also tried to sign Kirk to a couple years deal. Sam has proven to be a significant upgrade over Kirk so if the package was big enough its gonna be hard decision. In the end i trust KOC to make the best QB decision. The only scary thing about that is teams might wait til draft to trade for Sam. That $40 million cap hit for franchise tag would make it really difficult to sign the top tier free agents, let alone most of our free agents in our secondary. All the good free agents could be gone by the time Sam gets traded.

@@coreyczech If their intention is to move Darnold/let him go, then you only tag him if a trade with another team is in place. You would never tag him and just hope a market develops for him. If there isn't a market, then you just let him walk and his new contract weighs heavily towards the compensatory pick formula. If the team is set to move on from Darnold, they will move decisively on the free agents they covet. There should be no concern of that.

I think what makes it hard to get one of those crazy offers is simply that JJ is untested in the NFL, and the injuries hurt his stock yet. Matt Stafford netted Goff and the first rounders because he was a really good and proven QB on a bad team, and he'd taken them to the playoffs a few times. LA was willing go give up their short term future prospects for him because he's a 10+ year NFL vet. I don't see anything happening, it feels manufactured, and like the media is trying to make it happen a la Justin Jefferson this past offseason.

Sam has had a great turnaround but the potential with what KOC could do with a young QB that he can mold from scratch is too good. Plus we can re-sign all of our pending FA and bring in more to strengthen the O and D lines with all of the cap space we'll have. This is the same formula the Chiefs used when they drafted Mahomes, it works.

I highly doubt we would get that much. If he can play well in the playoffs, I think a team would trade a day two pick for the exclusive rights to negotiate a contract with him. It would be ideal to get a pick in the top 10 picks of the second round for him. If he lays a stinker on Monday, you are probably just letting him hit free agency and the contract he signs will weigh heavily towards the compensatory pick formula

I’m on board with McCarthy. However, if you can get #1 overall, another 1st rounder, and Jeffrey Simmons…….i think you’d have to do that. Because the. You could move down to the 5th pick or so and accumulate at least another 1st rounder…probably more. You could literally draft the premier players for the main positions of need this season. Jeanty, a top o-lineman, and a corner. So you’d be helping your future with draft capital, helping DT with Simmons, and fixing all of the holes. … all while rolling with Darnold who has been top 5 most of this season.

@fochjr4223 He's a CB before he's a receiver. He's the best corner in the draft and we desperately need a CB. Murphy, Gilmore, and Griffin all have expiring contracts. On top of that, he'd be a very good WR 3 in red zone situations, which we struggle with. He's very good at getting the 50/50 ball.

Love the content, and I love JJ as our future QB, but … if you get Simmons and the first overall pick, trade that pick to the giants for the their first and second, take Hunter, trade darnold to the 49ers for 10 and pick Jentry, still have your first, and the high 2nd from the giants. Jones signs for 2 yrs at 15, have lost of money to address online. I know that we love JJ but he hasn’t played a single game. Who had the better pedigree coming into this season Darnold or Jones’s, is this tempting ?

That said, if Darnold stays in Minnesota for a couple more years, huge if, but things then get a bit more complicated. I don't really envision Sam Darnold not starting next season someplace, if not here, and J.J. McCarthy isn't going to be riding the bench for years (ala Jordan Love) if Sam Darnold does stay.

Let's be real on JJ McCarthy for a moment. HOW would he have performed in the game at the Lions? He does NOT have the speed/velocity that Sam has on his throws! PERIOD! Also, he does not have the accuracy either! Don't give me the crap about his high percentage completion rate in the Big 10! NFL is several layers above in terms of defensive DB play. He also is not as athletic, mobile as Sam! Here is what I think would've happened with JJ starting against the Lions last week. 5 INTERCEPTIONS, many sacks....AND..replaced by Daniel Jones in the 4th quarter. If Vikes can get a number 1 pick for him....DO IT!!!!
