My neighbor worked for the the post office delivering mail for like 40 years and is now trying to retire. I say trying to because over those 40 years, he almost never used his PTO, so he has almost 8 years worth of PTO saved up that the post office requires him use before he's allowed to retire. To rephrase this, he has to spend 8 years getting paid to be off work every work day before he's allowed to officially retire.

For a brief time, I worked under a USPS contractor and delivered mail. Those specifications are NOT arbitrary. In some places, you are lucky if there is 20ft between each mailbox, and if you want to be done quickly (by between 2-4pm), you need to speed up quickly and slow down quickly in order to deliver the mail. Mind you, I also worked in WA and under a contractor, so we were not using LLVs.

Hey Kip.... I used to work for a printing company that printed a lot of junk mail... For much of the mail pieces, we purchased mailing lists from a listing company for a geographical area. Its no big deal, all mailers do this, which is why list companies exist. And companies rely on these to hopefully get a 2% response rate. The only main rule set is it is illegal to procure names for mailing junk mail if the person is on the USPS's Do Not Mail list. So Kip, get yourself on thay Do Not Mail list.
@ryantannar53019 ай бұрын
it's still a fairly shady practice. it's not illegal or anything like that but you cannot deny selling someone's address is kinda scummy. On top of that, most of the mail being sent out is for predatory loans and other less than moral marketing practices. EDIT: to be clear just working there isn't really a big deal, gotta work to eat. Just want to make sure I make the distinction between people working at a place like that vs someone running a place like that

Regarding TFE's ad reads, there was a razor that he did and he broke their rules and read their agreement and a list of talking points and whatnot, but the agreement said "We don't want an insincere endorsement." It's not just his ad-reads that are good, it's also the products he advertises. Also Ralph Dale Earnhardt was a NASCAR driver known for his aggression during a race, and has won something to the tune of 100-some championships in 26 years. He was killed in a crash during a race early 2001 from a balisar skull fracture. He was the fourth racer to die from this kind of injury, all 4 within a year, and this sparked a huge safety improvement to the cars and driver safety for the whole organization. Since then, no NASCAR driver has died in a crash. His Son, Dale Earnhardt Jr., is still racing in NASCAR to this day to my knowledge. ALSO here's a code-word for the Internet people to get off their butts: "I'd like to cancel/suspend my service." At that point, they'll win a nobel Peace Prize if it'll satisfy you.

@ryantannar53019 ай бұрын
Home delivery of letters started in the Civil War. Before that, you had to go to the post office to get your mail. This all changed when some guy (I forget his name) noticed how many people were getting news of their loved ones dying in the war. These people would break down right in the middle of the post office. He decided it would be better for people to be able to process this news in their own homes. This isn't related to the video really but it's super interesting.

32:33 I've been in construction for 4 years now, and a lot of safety protocols are nonsense, but I only say that because some things that need reform are just never addressed. So there's a lot of times where you're doing something small, like moving like 60lbs worth of dirt with a shovel. Technically you should wear gloves, and you can legit get sent home, suspended, or fired for not wearing gloves to use a shovel for 6 scoops. So you do a meerkat maneuver, stand up nice and tall, look from left to right to make sure no one that might rat on you is around, and knock it out in like 20 seconds. Meanwhile, your peace of heavy equipment can't put it's bed down unless you do it like 30 times, but it's the only one we have, so just keep driving it. Write it on the inspection, but don't expect it to get fixed.

Driving the HMMWV is not... bad (for a given definition of bad), and handles like a brick on wheels, but that thing goes a max of 55mph. It can't go faster than that, it can only go louder. Ive driven quite a few variants of the hmmwv (Humvee). Some are definitely more fun than others. The base model with no armor or heavy equipment that you just throw people in the back of is pretty smooth to drive however loud if its a soft top. Versions with armor or hauling heavy equipment is very sluggish and they are a lot less roomy on the inside than you expect. Granted ive gotten them over 60mph maybe like once and his description of driving a hummer 55mph+ is very accurate.

15:55 funny story, possibly illegal...probably illegal. In 2009 I got my first PO box. TBH I forgot which number it was, but I was standing near by when the worker checked the key they were giving me, worked with the box number they were telling me, to confirm the key they were giving me worked in the box that they were saying was mine. So the first time I checked the box I thought ''I don't know exactly which one it goes to, but it was somewhere in this general area of like 10-15 other boxes. I'll just try each one, till it works, and that must be mine.'' I stand by this reasoning to this day. I found A box the key worked in, and not terribly surprising, I got someone elses mail. I assumed was meant for the old owner of the box...it wasn't. PO box keys can open a surprising number of boxes that aren't yours. Is it due to wear and tear over time to the locking mechanism, or the key? Maybe.

One of the ironies of the LLV using the Iron Duke and not having decent heat is that the Pontiac Fiero with the 2.5L Iron Duke would absolutely bake you the F out of the car in the coldest sub-zero weather in less than 30mins run time. This was because GM used the full-sized Citation heater core in a car that was less than a third the cabin space. For the LLV it would have been nothing to get even a generic heater core off a parts counter and route the coolant off the head to it and have fantastic heat using a small blower fan.

Here is a working solution to stop getting unwanted mail. They come with a postage paid envelope. You buy a bunch of bricks or cinder blocks. You get one of these letters, you tape that PPE to a brick/block and mail it in. The postal service is required to ship it and deliver it. The company that bought the PPE is required pay the postage involved; much more than a typical first class stamp. The company will stop sending you junk mail.
