Maybe you should show this to Jacks Shack near Loughborough. They fitted mine, first trip out water poured through between rail and van, the end piece fell off and the screws are rusting staining my paint work 🙄

I kind of ask myself if the screws are that necessary... Sikaflex in this amount is easyly enough to hold the bar on it's own and the screws make a hole in the van that might get rusty or starts leaking over time...

You're right, Sikaflex is very strong but the screws add that extra security for windy days or sudden gusts. Drilling into the side of your van isn't for everyone but you know it's not going to come off.

This may be a daft question but do the screw holes come through into the inside of the van? I have a camper conversion and don’t want to damage the internal fittings with the end of the screw.

Hi Thank you for your contact. You would need to drill right through both sets of skins of the body work but the screw shouldn't unsafely come through they should screw in flush.

Like another viewer I found the 3mm drill too big and couldn't tighten the screw as the hole was too big for the screws supplied. Luckily I'd only drilled the first hole so did the rest with a 2.5mm drill bit which accommodated the screws perfectly

Is there any alternative to use instead of degreasing agent?

This step is not essential, but it is strongly recommended. The degreasing agent is simply to make sure the metalwork is clean and dry before you apply the adhesive. If the surface isn't properly clean, it may cause the rail to not stick to the bodywork quite as well. This could cause problems later on in the life of your rail.

Any degreasing product should work. White spirits, tar remover etc...

on the front screws did you drill just the fist skin or did you need to go into the 2nd skin as well, thx

Hi Gary, yes you need to go through both skins of metal for a few of the screw holes. Sorry, should've mentioned that.

Really frustrated with this video. I purchased the rail from Kiravans. Good advice with the masking tape, terrible advice recommending 3.2mm drill before fittings screws. Holes are now too big and won’t tighten! A competitor video shows drilling holes with the self drilling screws supplied, no need for pre-drilling the holes! Now I have to find another solution for larger diameter screws which will fit the countersink on the rail!

When i first watched this video i asked myself what happens when you drill the holes incorrectly - Game over! really sorry to hear this. Terrible way to make an upgrade especially if you have a brand new van

They rails are a complete rip off for the fact all they are is piece of profile alu. Much better solutions that are much cheaper.
