Tom Baird: "The VW is rear-end heavy. We must balance the car." Me: "Just put a Kirby in the trunk. It weighs a ton, and is capable of giving people hernias and sending guys to the chiropractor, so it should balance the car perfectly."

I rebuilt a 1965 Kirby 50 Dual Sanitronics from ground up because I got fed-up with the other vacuum cleaners that lasted couple of years. BELIEVE me, this vacuum cleaner is a work horse, quiet for it's size and great suction! With proper maintanance like a car this vac will out last me. Whenever you purchase a Kirby, make sure you put the vac in your will.

I have a Kirby G5, great vacuum, got it over 10 years ago, never had any problems with it, and it cleans just as good today as it did then.

First saw this amazing video in 1989 when i was selling Kirbys. Further down the comments page Andork Kuomo explains the physics behind this. However, for the physics to work you need a good, reliable, powerful vacuum. Once you understand the physics you realise pretty much anything is possible using vacuum to lift the car - one of the "actors" suggests lifting Greyhound bus with a Kirby and using the same laws of physics, it should work with a big enough funnel. Someone else mentions it sounds like it's in hose mode but has the deep clean head on. Very simple reason for that - the roller drive belt is disconnected to prevent the brush roll interrupting the vacuum if it jammed on the roof, perhaps the brush roll was taken out as a further precaution. I've still got my Kirby 25 years on and it still does what it says on the tin - well highly polished aluminium alloy!

This is stretching it, but Kirby vacuums do have a lot of suction and airflow.

I wonder how many of you were a client of mine. I used the sell Kirbys, in Toronto, in 1988. What a great machine.

Just saw mythbusters doing this and it really works. Damn...

Not necessary. You can pick up almost anything with any vacuum with moderate suction and the right size funnel or suction cup of some sort. This isn't a good measure of how well it cleans, though. As airflow cleans, not suction.

Actually, as impressive as this looks the entire concept is quite simple. However many inches of vacuum the Kirby pulls, it's just a matter of having enough surface area to put it to work. They didn't just stick the end of the hose (a few square inches) onto the roof, they have that entire structure that envelopes the entire roof (several square feet) so it multiplied the effect. If you pumped it long enough you could've done the same thing with a hand tire pump. I still like my Kirby though.

This was just a bit of fun. Electrolux ran an ad in the 80's showing the elctrolux lifting a bowling ball. Of course this was ridiculous and this was Kirby poking fun at the electrolux ad. This is actually the second part of the video. The first part shows the kirby lifting 1 then six bowling balls. It is designed to be funny.

Can a KIRBY vacuum cleaner really can lift a VW?

I also have proved this test, but I never did try other vacuums, the real reason that the Kirby is so good is that it is a 500 Watt machine!

Have you ever seen the lift created by a kirby? It literally lifts up the carpet which allows air to flow all the way through the carpet.
@HelloKittyFanMan.10 жыл бұрын
Oh my gosh, so fake! Even the acting is terrible! Besides, the vacuum cleaner obviously didn't even *lift* the vehicle. If anything, if that funnel were designed to incorporate the vacuum cleaner's suction, then the cleaner is only *holding* the car in place while the *crane* does the actual *lifting.* But of course I don't believe the vacuum cleaner can really hold it like that. Maybe that's not as purely obvious as the reversing part, though (with that acting done before the car was dropped). ;-) Oh, and they (and this description) use the term "Volkswagen" as if the only VWs are the small ones. But wait. John Dobson here says this: "This was just a bit of fun. Electrolux ran an ad in the 80's showing the elctrolux lifting a bowling ball. Of course this was ridiculous and this was Kirby poking fun at the electrolux ad. This is actually the second part of the video. The first part shows the kirby lifting 1 then six bowling balls. It is designed to be funny." OH, okay, if that's what it really is, then I get it. :-D
@joshbaird160212 жыл бұрын
what a load of crap, its obviously fake, theres something under the vacuum holding onto the car to lift it, a hook, or a strong magnet
