The slide-kick was a thing in Kirby's Adventure It, along with dashing, was removed in Dream Land 2 probably because of the small screen.

When it comes to music, instrumentation is at least as important as composition. Even if you personally don't find Kirby melodies all that impressive, I'd argue that the execution really *does* make Kirby music stand out, with the soothing instrumentation and at the same time frantic percussion that gives it a unique energy.

I always thought those minigames were more frustrating than they should be... I had to cheat by using save states a lot just so I didn't have to go back and do it again. Great video, I was actually pretty sad when it ended (that's not saying it was too short of a video though, no worries!)

I'm so dumb that I used a guide for this game lol, just to read the objective for each stage and that's all. Not my favorite Kirby but its fun. And yeah I will probably never shoot for a 100% on this game ever again. Also Kirby has always had an ethereal atmosphere in its music so that's probably why you feel like it is good but sticks in the background. Usually stuff like that is like that.

Oh, hey, this guy seems to legitimately like this ga- "...Dream Land 3 is often mediocre..." I would be pissed if you weren't right. Really, the reason I love this game so much is mostly because it was one of the first Kirby games I'd ever played. Also, the final boss (lore-wise, anyway) definitely helps (dark) matters in that respect. By the way, to clarify, I was born long after this game was released. I played it on the Wii U's Virtual Console and absolutely fell in love. Also, a couple more things: 1. Dream Land is a part of Planet Pop Star, not an entirely different place. 2. There are 6 animal buddies. You said at one point that there were only 5. 3. "...and I wouldn't call it catchy." I would most certainly beg to differ in that respect. From the calm atmosphere of Ripple Field 2 to the hectic frenzy of Hyper Zone 2 (this game really made me appreciate the number 2), almost every track in this game is super memorable. This may just be a (dark) matter (wait, I already made that joke) of opinion, but I personally think that this game succeeds at delivering the surprisingly high standard Kirby level of catchy and general pleasant-sounding music that fans have come to expect. For the first one, it's fine; I don't expect you to be an expert on Kirby lore, just figured I'd point a few things out.
@implantgames5 жыл бұрын
Haha, I adore Kirby's Dream Land 3. However most of my admiration comes from the subjective elements. I dig the art style even though I don't think it is technically excellent. I dig the music even though I can't pinpoint anything particularly great about it, I just like it. And being sandwiched between daunting Zelda reviews, I appreciate the light nature of the adventure. But alas, I don't think any of these things make the game great, just something I personally enjoy :) 1) Others have pointed this out and I am not sure how I missed Dream Land was on Pop Star haha 2) I hate when those sloppy errors slip through... 3) See above
@powpuck50315 жыл бұрын
The sliding kick is more of an evasive maneuver than an attack, similar to Mega Man's; unlike Mega Man's, which is nonoffensive and leaves one damaged upon contact with a foe, doing so with Kirby will cause him to be harmlessly flung backwards to a safer distance. Morevover, this leaves him still facing the enemy, still primed and ready to attack again, instead of having to reorient. ...Or I assume that's the case here. It's been a long time since I've played this, though I'm certain it's true of Super Star, where the maneuver originated. It isn't its fault if it wasn't properly implemented in later games.
@implantgames5 жыл бұрын
As I reviewed my footage I noticed I would use the run a lot during boss battles, such as racing underneath the Haboki when it jumps. I guess the slide kick would work in this instance as well.

Super Star is one of the worst Kirby games. Unfair puzzles, like needing to take a fire partner underwater to light a fuse. Badly told story, as you can skip the first cutscene of any "game" by simply pressing start. Non-Kirby-like difficulty. Boring level design.
@filthyshrek101bc24 жыл бұрын
@@genyakozlov1316 yeah I agree, the boss and enemy design is either unfair or bad and some of the controls aren't as good as dreamland 3. I also have had a problem with turning when wanting to change directions quickly after an attack and then there is the level design like you said etc.

I love Kirby, got the pink puffpall tatooed on my arm after all. The Dark Matter games are all a low point for me, though. I like Kirby BECAUSE it is rather easy, giving you an overabundance of powers and generally not demanding too much. I like it when there is alot of exploration and bonus objectives that are not required to finish the game. I like some of the catchy music and the fact that Kriby is a series about unknowing horrors and unknowable elder gods that just happen to run into this unbeatable cute sweet kid, really. To me, it is about simply having fun, relaxing and not being frustrated because I don't have much time playing games and like it when something isn't very hard. I dislike randomness, rogue-likes, focus on combat or hard games. Kirby is exactly made for me. This is why The Great Cave Offensive and Milky Way Wishes are probably among my favorite, next to Adventure and Star Allies^^
@Mike142649 ай бұрын
Honestly, I still don't get that mindset that a game is only mediocre if it's easy. A game doesn't need to be hard in order to be fun. Heck, sometimes it contributes to a good feel. And it's not like these games are a snoozefest.

I guess if you do go on marathon of Kirby games this one can feel underwhelming, but I guess I grew up as such a big Kirby fan back in the 90 since I played the tree of Kirby's Dreamland games in the 90s as well as Kirby super star that when I actually played Kirby's dream Collection on the Wii which has all the 90s Kirby games as well as Kirby 64 I enjoyed going through all of the games. I actually have fun with the mini games because I'm actually good at them, although I do find the one with the colored gordos to be really challenging. I've never fully 100% the entire game on SNES which I think actually the full amount is 103 or 104 percent, I don't remember, however when using the SNES online service on the switch which has save states I actually did complete everything because it was just so hard to perfect all the mini-games in one Marathon. the added ending after that is not much different than the full ending after getting all the heart stars and defeating the true final boss.

Dream Land 3 along with Dream Land 2 and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards are my favorite Kirby games. Not sure how this game doesn't get more love as far as retro Kirby games go. Possibly because it was a late release, it came out in November of 1997. More than a full year after the N64 had already launched. In late 1997 people already had or were planning on buying the N64, to play games such as GoldenEye 007 and Diddy Kong Racing which came out around the same time as Kirby's Dream Land 3. Having said that I do feel this game is better than Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby's Adventure (just barely) and Kirby Super Star. The general consensus is that Kirby Super Star is the better SNES title, but again, I blame Dream Land 3's late release for that. Super Star is a compilation of a bunch of smaller games. With many of them being very simple, short and elementary. This one is definitely a longer, more satisfying experience imo. Not to mention the art style is gorgeous, basically Kirby done with the Yoshi's Island aesthetic. The only complaint I do have is that collecting the stars for completing tasks can be a bit confusing as the game doesn't tell you specifically what it wants you to do, aside from the little clue in the picture before you start the level. I do think they dropped the ball on that one. Had they implemented a more clear way of knowing what to do this would hands down be a top 20 SNES title, for me it may be top 20 regardless because the sheer aesthetic, controls, copy abilities, animal buddies and level design is great. You may have to check the internet to figure out what to do, but once you do you'll have a blast with this game if you're into Kirby.

I get what the artists were going for; a very cute art style that looks like a child drew everything in this game with some crayons.
