In Triple Deluxe, it actually does no damage if you do that. The flinch effects are the same though, so be careful.

finally, hammer+hammer is the best combo for sure; hammer flips alone give hammer DPS rivaling the DPS of ninja/wing. Having one kirby forward hammer flip, then the other forward hammer flip during the first kirby's cooldown would give about 60-70% extra DPS, which is ridiculous considering how powerful hammer is already.

Furthermore, wing has the best horizontal movement in the game, with tons of invincibility (which tornado does rival wing at). Wing has the best vertical movement in the game after hi-jump (and that's only if you do frame-perfect puff-cancelled hi-jumps). Wing can literally slam into lava, spikes, and hazards and still not lose its ability. Its downward movement is also one of the best, and unlike the down attacks of stone/sword/spear/cutter/etc, you can cancel it at any time

Awesome job. I never really bothered to look up videos of how people speedran this, and I (blindly) got just barely under 9 minutes. Trying to beat Magolor EX before the laser is pretty stressful, and I think that the Metal General skip is one of the worst chokepoints possible because of the timing. Such a great game.

And wing is amazing for no-damage runs, of course after you master it too. The speedrun is essentially a no-damage run 90%, because wing also has a ridiculous amount of invincibility. And it's vulnerable at the end of condor head, but you can link it into combo dive or dive bomb and

continue the invincibility frames. Dive bomb is ridiculously versatile, with huge amounts of invincibility, amazing dps and spammability, and can be jump-cancelled (just like most of wing's moves). Wing is a better ability than tornado, in every way possible, except learning curve (cuz wing is extremely technical and has a steep learning curve)

@HurDurMan It's actually best to play alone, for the most part (MAYBE only 2 people... MAYBE) because the more players you have, the less damage everyone does. Also, it doesn't really help much since usually, 1 or maybe 2 people will be doing most of the damage because of boss invincibility frames. I really want to try a 2-player run, but it's going to be insanely hard to coordinate; I think hammer+ninja would be the best combo

@Ripwaterwrath74 spark is definitely the way to go if you're not used to boss patterns and close-range, but spark is lacking in the speed-running time department, whereas hammer, wing, fighter, ninja, and parasol are all great

Ninja-Ninja, each ninja has little cooldown so it's best to just have one ninja spamming quadshock. IF you have both spamming quad shocks, then one hit out of two for one ninja will always be ignored because of the other ninja's quad shock spark-leaf is viable, in a sense, but spark is very weak. And yes, I said it, spark is weak; it is only popular because people like to noobcannon it and it's ridiculously easy to use.

Fighter is decent at best. On ground, it has probably the best projectile in the game thanks to insta-hadoukens (it outclasses SPARK on the ground). Against air bosses, it doesn't do quite as well... However, leaf isn't mobile at all. Wing can dodge everything easily too, with condor head and dive bomb because wing has a ridiculous amount of invincibility, and unlike fire's burning, you can bypass the vulnerability at the end by attacking again because wing can combo from condor head into dive bombs, vice versa, and so on. Leaf is much easier to use for sure, but assuming someone has mastered every ability in the game (and I have, 90%), wing is objectively the best ability in the game.

haha wow, didn't realize it was possible; the big difference mainly comes from 1. finishing Goriath before his spirit bomb attack (looks like it's practically frame-perfect with ninja) 2. finishing HR-D3's phase 1 right after its second slam (also, practically frame-perfect) I thought both were impossible -_-'' japanese players are insane lol

lol no. Hyper Tornado deals 144 damage at max. There is considerable lag and a long animation affiliated with it, totaling 4 seconds. This assumes every hit lands, which due to tornado's control, is generally unlikely. This is roughly 36 DPS at BEST. Wing's body hit of dive bomb does 24 damage. You can do roughly 2.5 dive bombs per second, which is 60 DPS, and it is VERY reliable. Furthermore, wing is more versatile, it can end attacking any time unlke tornado, it can chase enemies more often.

that depends on your definition of "best" Ninja can get the best time in True Arena, but if there were more aerial bosses, or if bosses didn't give many tossable-objects, then Wing would be better. Outside of Arena, wing is better than Ninja in every way.

Ninja is actually very good, and is one of few abilities to be able to sub-9 minute. I know someone got around 8:30ish with ninja, and he made mistakes so sub 8:30 with ninja is possible but wing is even more rigged than hammer, there's a japanese player that got around 8:05ish with Wing

KM, you had said once that the Needle ability was merged with Wheel because of the rolling attack Kirby is able to use whenhe has it in this game. That attack was actually added to give the Needle ability a more-Kirby Super Star-like moveset: That attack is actually even also used by the Needlous enemy, the foe that gives Kirby the Needle ability when inhaled and Copied.

You might wanna try starting a Hammer Flip on Galacta Knight right after he up thrusts for his "intro" to do damage to him at the start. Also, to land the Hammer Flip at the beginning of the 2nd phase, you need to start it right after he whirls around to land the hit. I did this and a landed it every single time.

Then make a new speed run. With improved strats, you might even be able to sub 8:00. Also, you should get behind Fatty Puffer at the start of the fight so you can get a free Hammer Flip while he's turning around and if he stays facing that direction, in the 2nd phase it'll take less time for him to do his rolling attack.

that was 4 months ago, and now I think hammer+hammer is the best combo in the game. everything else is bad. Any ability that relies on doing fast, repeated damage is bad for co-op, because you cancel out damage from your partner. Tornado-Leaf is bad as the tornado is constantly damaging the boss, and the leaf kirby would do nothing except maybe toss a leaf rain in between.

If you improve every strat, you can get 8:02, I did the math and you'll get 8:02.91 if the same time is 8:14.91 just with the improved strats.

The any% route for triple deluxe actually replaces wing with hammer just for pyribbit, then gets wing again at 6-1 because hammer saves so much time on him since that boss goes in the background 24/7

I haven't touched arena ever since playing true arena, so I wouldn't know. 7 minutes is probably a good time, I didn't crack 8 minutes, because I only played it once back when I sucked at the game, but I think a japanese player got 6 minutes with hammer...

you're weird lol jk. Honestly, spear is pretty horrible for speedrunning true arena, as its DPS is really lacking compared to even beam/parasol/ice. But speedrunning arena doesn't define an ability, Nintendo did a great job balancing abilities overall. Spear is definitely the best underwater ability in the game, and like you said, the best melee range =)

oh great, you got 8:50 with tornado. And you say it's more OP than hammer/wing/ninja when all of them get sub-8:20. And Ninja gets sub-8 minutes. And wing gets sub-8:10 and it's not even perfect. And this run gets 8:14, which has over ten seconds of mistakes. No matter how good you are with an abilty, there's a ceilng of how well you can do. Someone perfect with tornado will not get as good of a score as someone who knows how to use hammer/wing and aren't even perfect.

+Mirby22 DDD does about half damage on everything than Hammer Kirby, but he has a bit more HP. So he's basically a crappier but tankier version of Hammer Kirby that can toss infinite hammers (if i refcall correctly, DDD's hammer toss does 40 damage, and Hammer Kirby's hammer toss does 80 damage?)
