Thanks for posting this. I successfully put our Kirby G-Six back in service this evening with your instructions. This was its first repair since purchase in the late 1990s. I didn't bother with the c-clip this time but I will do so if this ever happens again.

I want to thank you for this video. I watched part 1 and 2 and was able to fix my own machine! It was motivation prompted by the repair man charging me a table fee of $50 just to look at it. He also told me without seeing it that I needed a new paddle. That was another $20. I can only imagine what the labor would have cost.

Very good video, concise and informative During the disassembly I noticed the parts had remnants of a lubricant which had become dry and sticky. I thoroughly cleaned them and lubricated with a synthetic 80w120 gear grease that has served me well with other household item requiring lubrication

Thanks Mr. Andersen. Saved me $170 in repair costs or $200 plus for a new vacuum. I know it is not as powerful as the newer models but they suck so hard I can't use it on my higher ply carpet. Plus I can't shampoo the carpet like I can with the Kirby. I'll keep this around for a while before getting a new one I guess.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. The first 1:25 minutes of the video helped me reassemble the shaft and the splined piece that shook loose. I have owned my Sentria for about 15 years, this is the first repair aside from the usual belts. This repair cost me $0. I appreciate the video and I thank you.

I've got to tell you that you are the best instructor I've ever encountered! Thank you for this video. I fixed my Kirby thanks to you! I did not have a C clip to do the same as you, but I added some glue to the metal area to hopefully make it stay put this time. If it does not work, I guess I'll have to do the same as you. Many thanks, you're fantastic!!!

I watched both of your videos good instruction. Could not have done it w/o you. Thank you!! One thing I would add is that cam we put on the spline is very finicky about where it wants to be placed. I had to install and remove a few times before i got it where it was happy. I discovered when reassembling the last cover plate plastic thing that secures the electric cable to the top to the unit. The rocking motion of the D/N switch would strike the cover plate or the raised area where the screw secures the cover plate. . Long story short the cam does not prefer the parallel instruction you gave, it should be rotated about 3 spline grooves toward the 12 o'clock position...maybe 4. or about 3-4 degrees toward the 12 o'clock...its just a little. once you get it about where you think it should be try toggling the switch and make sure each end of the toggle are equally away from the screw mount. Since the d/n toggle is not fixed you need to splay it out after you toggle back and forth. I had to reassemble and disassemble 4 times before I figured out what the issue was. Thanks again!!

Thanks Richard for a huge time and frustration saver. Being a true DIYer I blindly tore into it before looking for a video to bail me out. I'd like to say that I've learned my lesson but I doubt it. Thanks again it is much appreciated, Nick

We have a Gen3 that I've replace switch on. Still going strong. Wife found Ultimate G in local online sale with switch that had fallen out of. Previous owner couldn't get it out of drive and wanted to get rid of it. She got it for $50. Found this video, I fixed it no problem. Awesome video. Thanks!

Hey man! Thanks for the lesson. Piece of cake. You made it really easy for myself to repair something that I was a little bit apprehensive about. I owe you 20 bucks.

Hi from Australia. Thanks Richard, a great video, very helpful - especially the c-clip idea! I see (at 4:21) you were having trouble fitting the transmission drive back into the housing. I had the same problem - even using two hands! Just would not go up into place. The solution - take the transmission back out, and place the gear lever into DRIVE (the yellow lever down). The transmission should then just slide into place. All the best!

Thanks for making this video. This is exactly the same problem I'm having. My local "repair" person wanted $50 to fix this - but I think I can do it myself. Kudos.

I know this is an old comment, but that really isn't a bad price. Even for 6 years ago. He was likely going to replace the parts which would have been $20-$30 back then. He also would have clean and lubricated everything and checked for any other issues.

Thanks man. Pretty easy fix. I used thread glue instead of cutting the spline and using a split ring. Hope it holds

Thank you for the video! Getting it back in is a pain! I found success much easier by only loosening the slide on the top that allows for the handle removal AND took off the wheels. The little white plastic pieces that fit in the wheel slide have some play in them. Getting the wheels on and off was super easy by watching another video.

I just got a free Ultimate G and I don’t have a drive assembly either. I looked it up online and can get a replacement for about $25 but I’m also missing the part that slides over the assembly and connects to the drive shaft. I can’t find one of those online... I don’t even know what the exact name of the part is. I hope someone is ready this and can help us out!

Thanks for the video. I fixed mine because of it. On mine, the lever which fits over the splines and slides the spring loaded collar tends to work itself forward (inboard) causing a clicking noise when the machine is pushed around in neutral. The gears don't fully disengage for the neutral position. I'm thinking a dab of mild Loctite on the splines to hold the lever would solve the problem and negate the need for a C clip. Just thinking.

Try pull the lever that the on off switch goes to up and out of the way then line the fork up with the slot. Just a bit fiddley. Also helps if you put the belt on the large wheel on the gearbox then slip unto the small wheel once it’s in. And as someone else mentioned click it into drive and it pulls that lever forward so it slips in past the base plate

it would be nice if these guys ,that want to play teacher , would put there cameras on tripods , and use both hands , it's hard to see any thing when the camera is moving all around . for that reason I give them all a thumbs down.

Have you worked on a Kirby before? They're heavy! Moving the camera is A LOT easier than moving the entire vacuum around! On the other hand, when they filmed the Blair Witch Project...
