I teach middle school art and have been sharing this series with my Art 1 classes since last year and plan to continue that. The concepts you discuss around creativity and originality are INVALUABLE to young creators and I am delighted with how widely applicable all of this is. Embracing copying with my students as “part of the creative process” is such a liberating concept when I compare my own experiences as student, where copying was a fear and originality felt like the only valid method of creative expression. Anyways, thanks so much for this series and for making it overall kid-friendly, I’ve based 2 major projects off of this series because it’s just that brilliant and am so eager to show them this update. Can’t wait for part 4!

Pedantic correction: Apple didn't create the first smartphone. The PDA, Palm Pilot, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, and a whole host of Swedish and Japanese phones predate Apple's iPhone.

Guessing you're not a massive gamer given you're previous videos, so I just wanna say the research on the gaming stuff was fantastic! Only thing I feel the need to bring up would be you calling fortnite an early version of the metaverse. The definition of the term "metaverse" can be a bit iffy so I wouldnt feel right saying youre wrong, but the term actually originates from the 1992 book "Snow Crash". With that said this is yet another fantastic video from you. Video Essays are kind of hot right now so I'm very mad you're not as popular as some of the bigger ones.

I've been recommending this series for years, when the ethics of art derivatives is brought up in a discussion. But recently I've been recommending it whenever people complain that AI isn't being creative and is just stealing people's works. When they say "but the AI is trained on other people's art", I answer "so are humans". Today, I decided I want to rewatch this series. Lo and behold, I discover it's being beautifully remade, and just as I finish watching this episode, I find out that the final episode is going to be about the exact reason I've been telling people to watch it - AI creativity! The exact point I've been making (a point remixed from yours, really) will be made in a much more eloquent and entertaining way - and I can't wait!

At the time of this comment, 2 months after upload, this video currently only has 10K views. (which is criminal btw) I request LIKES, but only if this video surpasses the 50K views mark, which I predict will be around July/August/September of 2023.
